"Huma Bird" - Buffalo Killers Any 21st-century indie band that can this successfully channel their inner Joe Walsh is a friend of mine. Not that I'm a particular Joe Walsh fan; it's more the principal of the thing. This is not a sound I expect to come out of my MP3 player in the year 2009. It's a simple, grounded sound, a midtempo loper with a light acoustic rhythm at the front of the mix, sometimes messing playfully with the beat, with a heavy bass line underneath and a resonant electric guitar that [...]

Peep this new tripped out and hauntingly fuzzed out creepy crawler of a remix by the good dudes of Huma Huma . They take quite possibly the weirdest, most awesomest collaboration ever invented b/w Tom Waits & Kool Keith on N.A.S.A.'s "Spacious Thoughts" and manage to make it even weirder. It's got quirk, it's got bite, and it's got the stuff that'll make you wanna cruise around the galaxy in your pimped out space cadillac smoking a doobie dipped in formaldehyde. N.A.S.A. - SPACIOUS THOUGHTS (HUMA HUMA REMIX)

I just discovered today ( a little late since they released their EP "We Are Here For You" in 2006, and "Some Things Come and Go" in sept 2008) and I am enjoying their unique and organic sounding folk electronic sound. Music for Humans by Huma, their style is still very acoustic and subtle even though they describe themselves as electronic. An easy listen that will get you though the day this Wednesday evening. "A brother. A sister. A best friend/girlfriend. Kids behind counters making music on coffee breaks. Teachers after school playing NYC [...]

The latest wonderful sound to grace our inbox comes from a new Seattle collective of several established musicians. The supergroup is called Hello, Broken Arrow and they just began the process of making music together (despite past individual experience). There's a lot of vagueness and mystique surrounding Hello, Broken Arrow - kind of like their folky music, which floats into a foggy abyss, leaving listeners drowned in the sound. There was absolutely nothing about them in the email or on MySpace and I had to ask my secret informant, who goes simply by "B", from Hello, Broken Arrow, [...]

I was contacted a couple of days ago by a group called Hello, Broken Arrow . I almost titled this post Hello, Hello, Broken Arrow, but the explanation would have stripped away whatever thin humour was there to begi... never mind. The songs are lovely, but their MySpace page is so sparse that I could have done little more than re-post the music here and say 'here ya go', which somewhat defeats the purpose of mp3 blogging if you ask me. So, a little more detail: they are a group of Seattle musicians [...]

Huma Bhabha's sculpture of this title was one of the most impressive works I saw at this year's Gwangju Biennale . Though the name (a quote from an Omar Khayyam poem) suggests a kind of hopefulness, the sculpture itself seems entirely grim, a grotesque depiction of slow-moving ruin. On the other hand, the phrase 'track of a hundred thousand years' seems applicable enough - the two oppositely facing figures posture as if decaying in an ancient sarcophagus. Constructed of crudely scratched styrofoam, rusted chicken wire and other found objects, the totems straddle pagan ceremony and garbage [...]

Tonight is a busy night in DC for shows. The Red and the Black has Shenandoah Davis and Huma while the Blcak Cat has Maps & Atlases, Rahim, and Nurses. Also in DC are Brothers and Sisters who play DC9 along with Sera Cahoone, Sam Champion, and The Beanstalk Library. Up in Philly, the M Room has Miracle Fortress while the North Star Bar has The Neighborhood Choir, The New Up, Quantine Rabbit, Farcial Hoodwink, and Lux Perpetua. That's all for now.
