Crazy me don't think there's pain in Barcelona\ They dance you 'round a waltz confound

Crazy me don't think there's pain in Barcelona\ They dance you 'round a waltz confound Πριν απο 10 και κάτι ημέρες μάθαμε ότι η μαμά του Rufus Waiwright και της Martha Wainwright, Kate McGarrigle έφυγε απο τη ζωή σε ηλικία 63 ετών.

Robert Rental - Collected Solo Works

Robert Rental - Collected Solo Works Proto-industrial pioneer, and one of the architects of the DIY revolution in UK synth music, Robert Rental is perhaps best known for his pair of collaborations with other artists. With Thomas Leer, whose electro funk mash ups figure pominently in any collection of minimal synth classics, he released the brooding, epochal album, The Bridge, for Throbbing Gristle's Industrial Records in 1979. And with Daniel Miller, the man who signed everyone from Fad Gadget to Depeche Mode to his fledgling Mute label, he recorded a shambolic but strangely inspired live set at the West Runton Pavilion on March 6, 1980. [...]

Ones to Watch in 2010 #5 - Campfires in Winter

Ones to Watch in 2010 #5 - Campfires in Winter Hand on heart, I won't lie to you, I'm friends with the Campfire boys. So there might seem to be a fair degree of bias in choosing them as one of my acts to watch this year. Personally I couldn't give a monkeys chuff, as I've heard the demos and they are quite frankly amazing. Well as I have been grooming him and the rest of the 'kids' (as I have affectionately come to call them), have been churning out great songs for a couple of years now. There are plans for a limited release EP [...]

Argentinian Singer Sandro Dies at 64

Filed under: News , R.I.P. Influential South American singer Sandro , known as the "Argentinian Elvis " to some, passed away Monday night due to complications due to a heart and lung he received in November 2009. Reuters reports that the 64-year-old's recent medical problems stemmed from smoking, causing chronic lung disease. Born Roberto Sanchez in Buenos Aires, Sandro's career took off in the '60s and '70s, first as a musician with the group Los de Fuego, then as a solo musician before he finally transitioned to [...]

If You Haven't Got Anything To Say

For a few weeks now Adam Hockley, an occasional contributor to Our Iron Lung, has been putting on a selection of acoustic acts at Kind, Lincoln. To kick-start the new year he's booked the fantastic Luke Leighfield, an indie-pop darling with an addiction to touring. I caught up with Luke over the weekend to ask him about everything from graduation to the ups and downs of being an independent artist. Liam Haynes interviewed Luke Leighfield. He plays Kind, Lincoln on 5/1/10. First things first, graduation! Well done. What's it like [...]

Ep.320 - Jason Michael Carroll @ Exit/In - Nashville, TN

Jason Michael Carroll Fan Reviews @ Exit/In - Nashville, TN
Earlier this year, a coworker took me as her guest to the Sony riverboat showcase for the CRS conference. That was when I first found out about Jason Michael Carroll. Sharing the stage with big guns like Brad Paisley, Kenny Chesney, Gretchen Wilson, Carrie Underwood, and so many more, he held his own. At the beginning, I labeled him as a boy band Country singer – dreamy with puppy dog eyes, and heart grabbing choreography; plus, an arsenal of mega hits. I believe he has two records out with over five of the songs reaching the Country Top 40 [...]

Not Many Experts' Albums of 2009: The Entire Beast

Not Many Experts' Albums of 2009: The Entire Beast Now that the entire list has been written, posted and embarrassing spelling mistakes removed, leaving me genuinely sweating from writing and with a body of text that is, depressingly, longer than any essay I have ever done before, I thought that I would paste the whole thing together for the completist in everyone. Anyone who notes the correctiveness (irony?) of the possessive apostrophe in the title wins a prize for pedants everywhere. The honourary mentions can be found in the #27 - #14 list, here . Condensing an entire year of music that you've listened to is [...]

Not Many Experts' Albums of 2009: #13 - #1

Not Many Experts' Albums of 2009: #13 - #1 Condensing an entire year of music that you've listened to is an absolutely impossible task. And yet, it's so tempting to gaze at the year that hasn't even gone and attempt to squash it all into one post. At the same time, end of year lists are exceptionally popular, and yet all anyone seems to do is complain about them. "What the hell? I was expecting your top 50 to be exactly the same as mine!". Which, blatantly, is a ridiculous way to look at things. Personally, I think that end of year lists are more than a romantic glance [...]

DM Stith's favourite music of 2009

DM Stith's favourite music of 2009 DM Stith - I Heart Wig (feat. I Heart Lung) It's been quite a year for Asthmatic Kitty's newest star . Here's what he was enjoying in between touring and conquering both Europe and America over the last twelve months, because he is nice enough to answer questions about that kind of thing. And I have to say, he's right. That Bibio record is beautiful . Favorite albums that I found this year (in no particular order): Bibio - [...]

the roadkill's not dead, just sleeping

the roadkill's not dead, just sleeping frank works at the tooth with his tongue, releasing it slick and worn as a cherry-flavoured cough lozenge. "not many left," he murmers, pttooing it into the frayed, gaping mouths of the many sweatshop-carved nikes littering the chalk path, multi-coloured laces snaking into the shushing grass. the gull surveys with one eye, black-infinite as a daydream, following frank's cliff-face descent, wondering what this clumsy, fumbling thing is. soon the greasy brine laps rhythmically at his feet with the ticklish wet of puppy tongues. he makes himself comfy among the bones, and digs [...]

DM STITH, WITH A BRAID OF VOICES

For Stith's part, he distills "Braid of Voices" to its essentials, [...]

Top Albums of 2009: The Artists' Picks

We remember a time when Rolling Stone used to do a wrap-up issue at the end of each year with their critics top ten. Now every website on the planet (including ours!) spews out their own, holier than thou list. But RS used to have the decency to ask the popular artists of the time to submit their own top ten lists, which were either good for a chuckle or a trip to the record store. In the spirit of sending you off to buy some new records, we've asked a few bands/musicians/writers to give us a [...]

Build A Body With Bands: Illustration Contest

One project that was derailed by the behemoth that was the end-of-the-decade coverage was the Build A Body With Bands Illustration Contest. And I really do want to go forth with this idea. So, let's try again. In late October, I wrote a post wherein I asked people to help build an entire body out of band names . Readers responded with a plethora of answers: from the literal (Heart) to the surreal (Crystal Antlers) to the spiritual (These Immortal Souls). Now comes the next step: Below is a list of your answers [...]

NEW FILM PROJECT FROM JONATHAN DUECK ON KICKSTARTER

Jonathan Dueck is a good friend of us here at Asthmatic Kitty. We are first and foremost big fans of his work. Most recently he helped bring Hermas Zopoula to our attention, but he's been doing art and video work for us for a while, as well as a frequent contributor to our Sidebar . For the last four years Dueck has been creating work that involves "scratch animation" set to music from collaborators Chad VanGaalen, Son Lux, and our own I Heart Lung . The result is nothing short [...]
