One Love at Tank is no more. They've packed up their stuff, waited near some hot girls to get cab and ventured across town to their new home; The Bourbon . Will they be undone by the toxic kebabs, cheap tattoos and 24/7 live clamidia shows of Kings Cross? Probably. But hell, isn't that what weekends in Sydney are all bout!? Judging by the longevity of the One Love franchise to date I'd guess that they've got these things accounted for and will be extending their new lease a few times over. With [...]

This is a rare occasion when the announcement of a funeral is a good thing. It is a night when the event will represent a rebirth rather than death. On, Tuesday November 17th the Seattle Rock Orchestra is deconstructing The Arcade Fire' s iconic album "Funeral" and recomposing it in it's entirety to be performed by 50 piece orchestra at the Fremont Abbey. Not only is this a great opportunity for the chance to to dip into the classic side of Seattle's music talent pool, but "Funeral" [...]

Ja, ja! A large number of blogs have posted Boys Noize's Essential Mix and for good reason. Boys Noize does some serious homework regarding track selection. From early '80s house music to current techno masterpieces, there was a lot of thought put into this mix. Heavens, Boys Noize mixes The Bells with Len Faki's Stranger to Stability remix! And you gotta love that he doesn't promote any of his Power material - humble. This Essential Mix is certainly candidate for mix of the year. Hope ya dig. Oh, [...]

In the Book Notes series, authors create and discuss a music playlist that relates in some way to their recently published book. In her debut collection of short stories, What the World Will Look Like When All the Water Leaves Us , Laura van den Berg's characters engage the mystical world as they struggle to overcome their personal losses. Publishers Weekly wrote of the book: "In her affecting debut collection, van den Berg taps into her characters' losses with an impressive clarity. Each of these [...]

Recorded using strictly vinyl, Boys Noize threw together the latest Essential Mix packed full of bouncing house and techno without any shameless self-promotion. All that and there's the Jeffer Remix single that was released yesterday with a new Modeselektor remix? What a nice Monday. [...]

One of the most eagerly anticipated Essential Mix's of recent times, Boys Noize aka Alex Ridha, took to the decks to provide us with 2 hours that he promises is mixed mainly on vinyl. With his new album Power about to drop later this month it is somewhat surprising that the mix includes none of his own productions. Instead we are treating to a journey that starts off in jackin house territory and gradually builds, dipping in and out of genres as far ranging as dubstep, techno and disco. It's probably one of the boldest mixes of the [...]

CMJ released the band schedule for its 2009 Music Marathon & Film Festival yesterday, which is about as good a sign of fall hitting New York as the return of apple cider at Greenmarket. The festival runs from Oct. 20 - Oct. 24 and includes various venues throughout the city, and the list of featured artists would probably take all four days to read through. But skimming the selection reveals a fairly equal distribution of well-known acts like Atlas Sound and Deer Tick , anonymous locals (including krautrock-y Jeff Buckley-channelers Pocketknife), twenty-two bands who [...]
The press release below doesn't actually list all the acts performing at CMJ this year, so you're probably better off checking out cmj.sched.org to get a true idea of what's happening during this year's marathon. Of course, sched.org is a little confusing too and it doesn't list unofficial events and day parties (as far as I know), so you'll have to wait a little bit longer for info to trickle out from the blogs and other unofficial sources. Lastly, even though the press release says the schedule is "final", you can pretty much bet that things will shift [...]
