Could that be called timeless work? Sure [...]

The return of Broken Social Scene

Broken Social Scene: Almost Crimes
I'm giddy like a Japanese schoolgirl about the imminent return of Broken Social Scene . A new as yet untitled album is due on May 1st on City Slang / Co-Op and they'll be playing SXSW next month which I hope to catch. I've fond memories of all their Dublin shows particularly the Temple Bar Music Centre gig in 2006 and their two albums You Forgot in In People and Broken Social Scene are amongst my favourite albums ever. '7/4 (Shoreline)' is one of my favourite tunes ever too. The [...]

Winter in the Hamptons, springtime somewhere in Barcelona

Watching Josh Rouse strum his guitar on a hidden-away Barcelona sidestreet while I ate a Cara Cara orange for breakfast (I accidentally grabbed this variety at the market; it's rosy pink inside and tastes like sunrises) made today feel like a decadent moment of defiance in wintry February. I love the new Blogotheque footage by Vincent Moon of Rouse out and about in his (now native) Spain. Rouse blends two songs from his forthcoming El Turista album with one from his 2004 gem [...]

Bloggy Goodness: Zooey's With The Band

As the story goes, before landing the role of Anita Miller in Cameron Crowe's semi-autobiographical movie, Almost Famous, doe-eyed actress Zooey Deschanel had originally auditioned for the part of head Band-Aid Penny Lane. The She & Him lead singer will now get her own chance to play the part of rock star groupie as she will star and executive produce a new half-hour pilot for HBO based on Pamela Des Barres' infamous memoir I'm With The Band: Confessions of a Groupie . Jason Collett & his band Zeus both releasing albums, playing together & separately, touring w/ Bahamas (2010 dates)

Zeus - Marching Through Your Head
Jason Collett , Zeus and Bahamas have announced a North American revue tour featuring all three artists performing together and alone. The three acts have a long history of collaboration, as intertwined as their musical lineage. Instead of the typical show in which each act plays its own set, Collett, Zeus and Bahamas will all take the stage together, playing songs by all three. The tour comes on the heels of new albums for Collett ( Rat A Tat Tat , March 9) and Zeus ( [...]

Bahamas – Pink Strat

Bahamas – Pink Strat Click image to download full album Sounds like: Iron & Wine, Jack Johnson, Wilco, Joshua Radin Download audio file (Bahamas_12_Whole-Wide-World.m p3) What's so good? I couldn't help but smile the first time I heard Bahamas LP Pink Strat. Though it was a rainy day in San Francisco, as I listened to the dreamy tunes of Afie Jurvanen, I was transported to summer bliss. You see, Jurvanen is a Toronto musician who doesn't let the cold [...]

Video: 'Marching Through Your Head' by Zeus >>

Zeus - Marching Through Your Head
'Marching Through Your Head' by Zeus . Visually pleasing video for the first single off Zeus ' debut lp, Say Us (out on vinyl Feb. 9th, CD and digital Feb. 23rd). The video was directed by Adam Makarenko, and co-directed by Alan Poon, integrating live action with stop-motion animation with meticulously detailed miniature sets. The video documents the journey of the band's boots up to the peak of the mythical Mount Olympus in search of the Greek God of the sky, Zeus – only to find that Zeus the God is actually Zeus the band. They'll [...]

Broken Social Scene announce new album + tour

Broken Social Scene announce new album + tour My one concert regret of 2009 was missing Broken Social Scene at the Wanderlust Festival . I can put that regret more easily behind me now as I look forward to a May tour kick-off here in San Francisco at The Fillmore. Via press release: The new album features guest turns by Broken Social Scene alumni: Leslie Feist Amy Millan and Evan Cranley of Stars Emily Haines and Jimmy Shaw [...]

New Broken Social Scene Album

New Broken Social Scene Album It's due May 4 via their Arts & Crafts label , and it's the Toronto collective's first since 2005. Not many details are given , except that it will feature the lineup of Kevin Drew, Brendan Canning, Justin Peroff, Charles Spearin, Andrew Whiteman, Sam Goldberg and Lisa Lobsinger. The question I have is who will be the guest stars? Will we see appearances from Feist, Liz Powell, Amy Milan, Jason Collett? Any wildcards we don't see coming?

Who ISN’T on the New Broken Social Scene Album?

It's a joyful week in the land of indie rock: Canada's favorite sons (and daughter) Broken Social Scene are back with their first new album in half a decade! The as yet untitled full-length is set to come out May 4. Now, Broken Social Scene has always been a loose collective. There are the six core members (you may also know Kevin Drew and Brandon Canning by the solo albums they've released in the years since BSS' self-titled 2005 record). But there are also a slew [...]
