Death Cab For Cutie forsangeren Ben Gibbards hyggeprojekt The Postal Service rendte med 2. pladsen, blandt andet foran to [...]
Photo courtesy of Little Dragon's Myspace Page . Is there something in the water in Gothenburg, Sweden? The Knife, The Tough Alliance, Jose Gonzalez, Jens Lekman, and now Little Dragon – those damn Swedes just keep pumping out irresistible pop melodies in a variety of weird incarnations. Little Dragon's track "Runabout" is certainly a slice of quirky pop, but it is uniquely, wonderfully sun-soaked; the soundtrack to a leisurely bike ride on the nicest day of summer, when you're headed to your best friend's house or the beach or a BBQ. [...]

OK this might get a little confusing so stick with me. Somedays the sometime art gallery and Sydney's most affordable purveyor of fashionable Scandinavian wares (actually, Sydney's second most affordable purveyor of fashionable Scandinavian wares) has opened up shop in Melbourne - in a space once inhabited by another ( now defunct ) sometime art gallery and retail space - Schwipe/Don't Come . To avoid confusion with the similarly named PAM store Someday , the crafty Swedes from Somedays have dubbed the retail space Somewhere so if you've [...]

This song was my introduction to Swedish indie pop band Sambassadeur and boy do they make a grand first impression. From the triumphant opening build of "Days" that bursts out of the gate with a host of strings, keys, and percussion there's no doubt that you're in for a truly anthemic, sweeping pop song.As with other musically-inclined Swedes like Shout-Out Louds and Jens Lekman, the boys and girl of Sambassadeur have a gift for matching bittersweet melodies with magnificent orchestral flourishes, while their twee sensibilities and use of a dynamic female vocalist actually gives them a strong kinship with Scottish indie poppers, Camera Obscura. Anna Persson's [...]

Got lots to do today, but I wanted to get this out to you. The Bloodsugars are out of Brooklyn and their new album I Can't Go On, I'll Go On comes out on November 17th on Engine Room Recordings. The album features trumpet player Kyle Resnick (The National), cellist Colette Alexander (Rilo Kiley, Jens Lekman, Rachel Yamagata) and Bell. Additionally, Philadelphia-based Bill Moriarty, the man behind albums by Dr. Dog and Man Man, produced and engineered the record. This single off the album is a really up-beat pop song. MP3: The [...]
Joel Alme Joel Alme - You will only get it once (streaming) Références musicales : Jens Lekman, Morrissey, Håkan Hellström Joel Alme - You will only get it once (mp3) Every December I do my best of the year thing. Last year, Joel Alme ( remember ?) was one of the Swedish artists who gave me his vision of 2008 . Here is what he said : "I did not like that [...]

Here is this week's collection, which starts off upbeat then gets mellower and mellower. Like I said last Sunday, I'm gonna keep searching around for more, although I can't imagine that there are many more out there that I haven't found. Part Four will be here next Sunday, with Part Five logically following the Sunday after that. Part Six would be up to you: if you've ever recorded a Magnetic Fields cover and think it warrants being part of this feature, send it my way . Enjoy: 1) Get Him Eat Him - The Luckiest [...]
Air France will be following Jens Lekman to Chicago to DJ following his NYE gigs and are also looking for additional gigs around the same time: http://blogs.myspace.com/index .cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&frie ndId=63897182&blogId=517370739

The Bloodsugars CMJ Showcase at Spike Hill (10/23/09) Photo : Jon Klemm DOWNLOAD : "Light at the End of the Tunnel" - The Bloodsugars I was about to call it a night on CMJ Friday ( Oct 23 ), but on my way to the subway I decided to duck into Spike Hill and catch a midnight set by The Bloodsugars . I'm glad I did because the Brooklyn based quartet was previewing new material off of their forthcoming album [...]

Fontän "Early Morning" From Wintherhwila Information Records (2009) Listen to "Early Morning" MP3 Welcome to the sound of kraut-pop revisited. Fontän's "Early Morning" is an epic trek through retro electro sounds, treated token vocals and wailing electric guitars tumbling over 80's synth beats. The duo of Jesper Jarold and Johan Melin hail from the (unlikely) burgeoning musical hotbed that is Gothenburg in southern Sweden - home to [...]
...then it's time to shout Taxi! Taxi! Miriam & Johanna, an adorable Swedish duo have released their first full-length album, Still Standing At Your Back Door , and it is nothing short of satisfying. I had heard a few of their songs in the past, but nothing really caught my attention aside from their clever name and Swede-appeal. Yes, of course they're Swedish. The country is basically synonymous with amazing music. This album is most perfect for the Fall season, all snug in your warm winter coats while making your way from [...]

Here we are, bestowed with another "Best of.." list. This time Paste takes on the duty of compiling the "50 Best Albums of the Decade (2000-2009)". If you head over to their site , you can sample each of the albums listed. I always enjoy reading these lists even though I often disagree with them. You'd think by now I should know what I'm getting myself into when I read a "Best of.." list on an indie music site. But hey, kudos to them. I couldn't even compile a list of [...]

Yesterday, Paste released its list of the 50 Best Albums Of The 2000s, and the list was topped by none other than Sufjan Stevens' Illinoise , which honestly seems like it was released way longer ago, so established has he become in the indie-rock firmament. Wilco's Yankee Hotel Foxtrot , the Arcade Fire's Funeral , Radiohead's Kid A , and Bright Eyes' I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning rounded out the top five. Full rundown after the jump, but first, a few reactions. THE GOOD: Hey, [...]
HANK ALTOGETHER: So this whole decade list thing is getting pretty outrageous. But Paste's list is pretty remarkable if for nothing else than the (deservedly) high ranking of O Brother Where Art Thou? (which might be the last cd your parents bought). But it's Paste's adulation of The Avett Brothers' latest I and Love and You that makes even the most die hard Avett Bros fan (ie me) blush. They rank the album at #9. Sayeth Paste Magazine: For their artistic breakthrough, [...]
Paste's 50 Best Albums of the Decade list, out today, is a mixture of A-list indie rock standards and token hip hop and mainstream picks. These selections are mostly successful releases that cater to a white audience of semi-alternative persuasion. Even if this roster is more a reflection of who's reading than the music itself, though, at least they climbed the mountain -- and hey, the album streams are cool. Here is the list. 50 Björk - Vespertine (Elektra, 2001) 49 [...]
