Full A to Z index of every single Irish setlist I have posted from everywhere around the country, and every sort of act. As long as it's from Ireland, I'll post it here! AC/DC, O2 Dublin, 18 April 2009 AC/DC, Punchestown, 28 June 2009 Ryan Adams & the Cardinals, Ambassador Theatre, 8 November 2008 Lily Allen, The Academy, 16 March 2009 Lily Allen, Oxegen, 10 July 2009 Backstreet Boys, O2 Dublin, 13 November 2009 [...]

Frank Yang Q: Without a new record to promote - Mr. Love & Justice has been out for close to two years - what reason did Billy Bragg have for staging an ambitious cross-Canada tour ? A: Who cares? Any time you get the opportunity to see Billy Bragg live, you take it, no questions asked. Of course, I say that having missed his last three appearances in Toronto - the September 2006 show at the Music Hall for not one but two weddings, [...]

By Eric Garland, founder and CEO of BigChampagne Media Measurement In 2007, Radiohead no longer had a contract with its record company, EMI, and was about to release its seventh full-length album, In Rainbows . For its first new release in four years, one of the world's biggest [...]
Another year of (mostly) daily tunes here at Doklands, and I have to say I'm still having fun with this. I considered winding this up after hitting 1,000 tracks because really, how much is there left to say? Glad I didn't, though. Nik Bärtsch's Ronin - Modul 38-17 Miriam Makeba - Jol'inkomo Bishop Allen - Psycho Killer Oysterband - Road To Nowhere MGMT - This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody) Geoffrey Oryema - Listening Wind The Staple Singers - Life During Wartime The Staple Singers - Slippery [...]

Toronto - Things overheard on the bus ride and walk to the venue: "So where is the Docks anyways?" "Just follow the crowd." "But no one in the crowd knows where we're going" As "the crowd" passed by a Cirque du Soleil tent: "Cirque du Soleil's playing? I'd much rather see them than Silversun Pickups ." Ouch. So by the time I finally make it to the Sound Academy, openers An Horse were already playing. They had a good sound - upbeat, poppy stuff. I think they'll [...]
We complain often around here about the mainstream media's tendency to oversimplify music stories in their quest for an easy headline. This week, Billboard 's Hot 100 and Billboard 200 suggest splashy headlines that practically write themselves: Return of the Big-Voiced Divas! Topping the album chart is Whitney Houston's much-dissected comeback effort I Look to You , her first No. 1 disc in more than 16 years. And breaking into the Top 10 on the songs chart is her onetime rival and duet partner, Mariah [...]

As we approach the end of a summer in which some (including our esteemed editor) claim that there was no one Song of Summer thanks to Michael Jackson looming large in the afterlife, we are a few weeks away from a rare act of chart dominance: Total Hot 100 ownership by a single act for every week of a calendar season. The Black Eyed Peas have held the top spot on Billboard 's flagship chart for 21 weeks, so long that they've already set a new record for consecutive dominance by a [...]

Since the monumental festival weekend that shook American culture in Woodstock, NY on August 15-16, 1969, music fans across the country have made journeys to new and interesting places to catch their favorite bands or expand their horizons at marathon festivals. Live music and the summer season go hand in hand, an American past time not unlike baseball or cold beer. I've seen my fair share of festivals over the years. I was lucky enough to catch Radiohead electrify the Bonnaroo crowd in 2006, and got my first taste of the Grateful Dead scene in August [...]

The charts are in a bit of a Dog Days slumber, so let's try a little trivia: What's the most oft-recurring word on Billboard 's Hot 100 over the last decade? I'm thinking of a word that appeared virtually never prior to, say, 1990 and eventually became ubiquitous. "Bitch"? "Tha"/"Da"? "T-Pain"? No, the most common word on the chart, pretty much every week, is "Featuring." This week, for example, 16 songs with "featuring" credits are on the Hot 100-17 if you count a "duet with" credit on Keyshia Cole's latest single [...]

My partner and co-press pass holder Trina contributes to this review. Her comments appear in italics. Hillside has a lot of charm. I've never been before, but I gather it's grown a lot in it's 26 years of existence. And while a certain part of me would like to complain about the drive to Guelph from Toronto during the early evening traffic, the very long lineup for parking and access to the site, the incongruities of us having to get our parking pass at the ticket tent past the people taking parking money (something we got around [...]

When the music story of 2009 is written, the year's debutante queen and king will be Lady GaGa and Drake, who have treated Billboard 's Hot 100 as their playground lately. Each is a lock for a Best New Artist Grammy nomination next winter, because each is exactly the sort of not-too-innovative, chart-friendly act the Recording Academy routinely rewards. For both acts, however, the path to the Top 10 has been a bit of a slog. GaGa's on a roll now, but she spent most of 2008 watching her debut "Just Dance" creep up [...]
With a little over 5 months left in the year, there are still plenty of great artists still poised to release some terrific albums before 2009 is out. With a handful of said releases announced within the last week or so, now seems like an opportune time to take a look at what's worth getting excited about. August August 18th: Third Eye Blind - Ursa Major This album, initially slated for release back in December of 2008, got pushed back to June [...]

What's stronger and more impregnable than the news judgment of network television, the fiscal wisdom of Los Angeles City Hall, or a celebrity's last will and testament? Answer: Billboard 's chart rules. Even as the early summer of 2009 has seen TV newscasters ignore global unrest in favor of Michael Jackson death coverage; L.A. spend millions amid a state budget crisis to police a Jackson memorial; and Jackson's heirs treat his final documented wishes as mere suggestions, Billboard has not budged. Since [...]

After putting out the call to those who follow me on Twitter for ideas for today's segment, I was presented with two options: My friend (in spite of her Phillies fandom) Colealtmann suggested The Hush Sound's Like Vines , while Doctor Rosen Rosen offered George Michael's Faith Normally I'd give the advantage to Faith , but I saw the suggestion for the Hush Sound first. So... Artist: The Hush Sound Album: [...]

Let the speculation begin. Did somebody leave a goddamn door open? Did a "Yoko Ono" happen? Somebody else just miss their favorite punctuation too much? The official word is "creative differences," but whatever the reasoning, half of the Las Vegas group, Panic at the Disco, is parting ways with the rest of the band. The announcement that guitarist, Ryan Ross, and bassist, Jon Walker, would leave the group to pursue their own project came as a big surprise as the band is currently working on a [...]

On the heels of a victorious two nights at the Rothbury Festival over the Independence Day weekend, the mighty men of Umphrey's McGee will resume their typically packed Summer tour schedule which runs through September and includes three Iowa dates! Next week they play Des Moines at the Simon Estes Riverfront Amphiteater on Wednesday July 15th, and at the gorgeous Capitol Theatre in Davenport on Thursday July 16th. I'm planning on hitting the Davenport show. Actually the states surrounding Iowa are served very well during this run as well with [...]

I really need to start bringing a notebook or something to shows I'm reviewing (I should get a better camera too, the photo above was the only one even close to usable and it's not especially good, but I digress). I say that because I really liked Waleed Kush and the African Jazz Ensemble, but other than Kush, seen above playing the marimba, percussionist Derek Thorne, seen far right, and violinist Laurence Stevenson, who's off-camera in this shot, I don't remember and can't find the names online of more than half the players in Kush's ensemble: the saxaphonist, drummer, keyboardist, [...]

Toronto - This isn't really a review, but thanks to everyone who came out and took part in Indie-pendence day! We had a lot of fun and hope you did too. Here is a link to the photos on flickr. Big thanks to BizPhoto for providing photography services. Overheard: "This is like a crowd of twenty something hipsters" Haha, as if. IF you are on facebook, go tag yourselves here We hope to do this again sometime soon (but not too [...]

It's all crazy! It's all a dream! It's alright and it's all in a concert that made yet another amazing night in Lawrence, Ks. If you couldn't figure out from that terrible attempt at a pun in my lede, the concert was MeWithoutYou 's tour with the Dear Hunter and Kay Kay and the Weathered Underground . Seattle's Kay Kay and the Weathered Underground just appeared on my radar that day. Early in the morning, I heard one of the radio DJs talking about how this was one of her favorite bands and I [...]
