I mentioned the band Kingsbury a while back in one of my posts, so why not write about them again? Their latest EP, Lie To Me , came out late last year so isn't particularly new anymore, but it is still good music that you crazy kids have yet to listen to. Their music is likely best described as atmospheric rock, more about setting a mood than blowing your mind with explosive guitar riffs. It is great music to relax to, preferably with a cold brew in hand. Another thing I love about this band is that [...]

When I went through my inbox the other day, there was maybe a hundred e-mails that still needed sifting through. I believe three or four were about one band, Lemonwilde , which I suppose is a good way to grab someone's attention. I'm glad they did, anyway, as their music's pretty good! They released their EP, Red Room , in March, and now it is a free download. I would recommend them to anyone who likes Radiohead, Calla , or Kingsbury . If you're not yet familiar with such bands, then think of it as rock [...]

Perhaps the "new sound of suburbia" is a bit far fetched, but Colin Kavanagh's one man show The Council Flats of Kingsbury has managed to adapt bossanova to the electronic age, with hints of 50s suburbia innocence and 60s psychedelic pop brightness. Bright colors, chirping birds, swirling synths, acoustic guitar and an ear for sweet exotic melodies, this 35 minute journey is surprisingly compact and captivating. Don't miss this out if you're into folktronica, hauntology, Ghost Box, Moon Wiring Club etc. 3.5/5 "Influenced by the golden age of bossa nova, [...]

On our first night at NEXT BIG NASHVILLE at The End , we had an amazing turnout to see the FS/WOXY showcase. ALBERTA CROSS delivered a stunning set of music. Phosphorescence is a process in which energy absorbed by a substance is released relatively slowly in the form of light. Last night's show was capped off by PHOSPHORESCENT who actually threw energy back into the crowd. [...]

One-man bedroom auteurs will be retooling their attack's once Inspector 22 's Hey Man, I Understand drops on Oct. 13 (and likely when full-band effort Drop Dead , erm, drops in December). The loose-lipped tiger-snarl of The Anniversary and Jagger , the future-indie glory of Oneida and Slaraffenland , the pure-noise of Siltbreeze acts and, more specifically, Pumice [...]

A whole slew of US concert dates were recently announced for Lisa Hannigan. If I hadn't just done a post on her a couple weeks back, I'd be doing one now. However, since I already have one on her, I'll turn my attention to the musician that she will be opening for on most of those dates - British singer David Gray. Way back in the nineties, I was a big fan of David's folk / rock releases. I first discovered him when my store was sent a promo copy of [...]
Hear Here: The Triangle WKNC and Terpsikhore Records and Flying Tiger Sound Various North Carolina Artists, 2009 Compilations are always a weird beast to review, because well, they are disjointed by their very nature. There is not supposed to be continuity, only fresh revelations. It's hell to listen to, because I have to keep referring to the tracklisting just to see which song is going. But none of that is the fault of Hear Here because [...]

If you didn't know, David Gray is back with his first studio album in four years. Titled Draw the Line , Gray's soft spoken melodies return in 12 songs total, all set for release on September 22nd. Just weeks before it hits the streets, Gray's turning the key on the hype machine, and like any forthcoming release, there's a new single to boot: "Fugitive". The accompanying video to this mid-tempo piano ballad features a solo, head-bobbin', unshaven Mr. Gray, alternating between playing piano and acoustic guitar in [...]

Offset Festival Absolutely no excuses for a quiet forthcoming weekend. Granted, August Bank Holiday is probably still etched in the hazy realms of your mind, but trust me, September`s shaping up very nicely for those investing in cultural gatherings. Offset Festival`s scenic forest surroundings with the fantastic advantage of being a stones throw from the capital. Multi stages over two days promise to produce a weekend equally relevant to new artists as the more established line-up. Early September British weather, fingers crossed! [...]

Owl City - Fireflies Not to cast aspersions on this young Minnesotan's artistic efforts, but, wow, is it just me or do these lyrics seem manufactured out of the tossed-off lines and unmetered verse of the past decade's most maudlin emo/meaningfulcore/turbo-earne st songs? To me, it's as if this dude behind Owl City spent a whole lot of time studying and analyzing Hallmark greeting cards, Chicken Soup for the Soul books, Dashboard Confessional albums, and Ben Gibbard's lyrical and vocal 'style,' then wrote some shit down in his Moleskine notebook, recorded some bloops and bleeps, and [...]
