![[MP3] Harlem: "Sometimes (Flamin' Groovies cover)"](http://cache.elbo.ws/posts/2135858_lg.jpg)
It's a good thing You Ain't No Picasso has been keeping close tabs on Austin band Harlem, because I almost missed this one! The boys like doing covers and their latest attempt is "Sometimes," originally released in 1965 by Paul Revere And The Raiders. Story goes, though, that Harlem never heard the original, just the 1976 Flamin' Groovies cover. Thus, this is technically a Flamin' Groovies cover. Confusion! Their first official full-length should be coming out sometime soon (fingers crossed), but until then we have what we have. And right now, we have this. [...]

Filed under: News , New Music Art-punk pranksters Les Savy Fav have premiered their first new material since 2008's digital-only live album 'After the Balls Drop' on kids' TV show 'Yo Gabba Gabba.' A one-minute, 15-second celebration of the joy of having new footwear, the song 'Shoes' provides the soundtrack to a short animation on the hyperactive Nickelodeon show. You can watch it after the jump. Featuring the lyrics, "Shiny and clean, they're my favourite colour green, my new pair of shoes," the song is something [...]
While there may not be a person more unfit for children's television than Tim Harrington, Nickelodeon's occasionally bizarre show Yo Gabba Gabba nonetheless recently featured a track penned by the occasionally bizarre band Les Savy Fav . Put on paper like that, the pairing actually does make a little sense. "Shoes," which accompanied a video clip from the show wherein what appears to be a bespectacled cucumber is really, really excited about a new pair of shoes, is a song about, um, shoes. And how great this pair is. No mentions of rigor mortis or [...]

If only had to use one word to describe Les Savy Fav 's latest brand new song, titled " Shoes " and recorded for kids show Yo Gabba Gabba , then it would definitely be awkward . Hey, don't get me wrong, they've made plenty of crazier stuff, but it's this new cute side of theirs, which the band just unveiled as part of their soundtrack for the latest YBB episode, that really freaks me out. Even frontman Tim Harrington seems to agree with me, to some extent. The band itself hasn't been featured in [...]

Festival goers were greeted by by warm temperatures Saturday, the first day of the 4th annual Fun Fun Fun Fest. Something notable and worth mentioning was the layout of the Orange and Black Stages. A huge platform, divided equally into halves expedited setup time between acts. The first act we caught was the Royal Bangs , a poppy indie orchestration permeated by electro beats. The quintet who hails from Knoxville, Tennessee recorded their full-length debut "We Breed Champions," independently and released on Audio Eagle records May of last year. Their fun songs had hipsters bobbing [...]

[Fun Fun Fun Fest '09] This is definitely in time Of the three major music festivals that grace this city each year, Fun Fun Fun Fest is certainly the locals' secret. Granted, it's a horribly kept secret, but there's an aspect to Fun Fun Fun that makes it seem so much more manageable. Watching Fun Fun Fun Fest grow and progress each year definitely lets you see just how much this city thrives on music. From it's humble beginnings as a $20 or so catch-all of [...]
Really, I love Fun Fun Fun Festival. I will readily stand up to the masses and argue about how much better FFF is in comparison to Austin City Limits. But, as with all festivals, there will inevitably be some sort of let down that leaves you frustrated. While I think some of these may be a bit obvious, there are others that definitely need to be brought into the forefront. 5. King Khan and the BBQ Show This is mostly [...]

Toronto five-piece continue to submit their two cents into the the post of noisy, jagged post-punk with their second full-length. No, DD/MM/YYYY isn't as horrible as their name. In fact, the five-piece from Toronto, Canada, isn't horrible at all. Most of DD/MM/YYYY's recent full-length, Black Circle, is full of youthful art-kid energy and comes off like nerdy-math rockers turned disciples of Les Savy Fav -- which is a good thing, for the most part. Lets start at the beginning, where things go right. The first song, "Bronzage", begins with a rush as drums spit like...

For our first "all access" coverage of any sort of music festival, I'd have to call it a great success. The line ups for both days was absolutely rad. The weather? Completely dichotomous. As for day no. 1, nothing but clear skies and and Spring-like temperatures (we'll get to day no. 2 later). From the laid-back of chillwave tunes of Neon Indian to the circus show antics of Les Savy Fav, A. Jayne, once again, was able to capture the FunFunFun with pinpoint accuracy . Oh, and I threw in my fair share of pics as well (mine are "sans [...]
We hope all of you stayed dry on Sunday at the Fun Fun Fun Festival and we also hope you soaked in the great weather of Saturday. All in all we had a great time over the weekend and saw tons of great bands. Just as we did with ACL, we'd like to give you a brief recap with our top 10 favorite bands from the weekend festivities. We're putting these in no real order and just listing them with some brief reasons why we liked them so much. Follow the jump for our top 10 Fun Fest bands. [...]
Our Fun Fest interviews are nearing an end this week but not before an interview with hard rockers Les Savy Fav. Before the festival, we had the opportunity to catch up with founding member Syd Butler to talk to him about his band and his record label French Kiss Records. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do. Follow the jump for full interview. ATH : Do you ever feel like the showmanship of Tim (Harrington) takes away from the audience actually paying attention to the music? If [...]
Meet noise rock duo Lightning Bolt . Two namesakes from Providence, Rhode Island whose abrasive drum and bass double fisting (metaphorically speaking of course) make Death From Above's fuzzed out din sound like chopped and screwed lullabies for insomniacs. We chatted to drummer Brian Chippendale about their forthcoming Australian tour, Visa trouble in Japan, Bjork and Freudian band roles. Just for people who don't know, how did you guys form? We formed at an art school, here in Province, both studying Visual Arts and I was two years ahead of him. In [...]
My buddy Mike is working in the music industry for Sonicbids . As such, he gets hooked up with all kinds of free shwag, including a badge to this year's CMJ Music Marathon, or whatever they're calling it now; he was gracious enough to write up a fantastic recap for us (and Sonicbids ). Mike's an all around mensch who knows the ins and outs of the business and has been putting me on to new music since our high school days. Hopefully we'll be [...]

Sunday, November 8, 2009 Well, the first day of this year's Fun Fun Fun Fest has come and gone, and I had a great time. Below you'll find a quick recap and pictures of everything that I saw. Enjoy. By the way, remember to follow me on Twitter for live updates! I sort of already let loose many of my thoughts on Twitter yesterday, but I still want to mention a few things for you to think about while scrolling the pictures. [...]

Today we at Weekly Tape Deck will be straddling the long road to Austin, TX in search of fun, booze and of course music; all signs lead to Funfunfunfest. You can bet we will be taking plenty of pictures and getting all the info your brains can handle. If you would like to keep up with us in real time the WTD dudes' twitters are here and here . Furthermore, if you happen to be heading down there, [...]

We couldn't be more excited to know that we will be able to spend the weekend soaking up the sights and sounds of Fun Fun Fun Fest at Waterloo Park. Tickets are still available, the weather is going to be perfect, and this might be the best lineup in the festival's brief history. We will have more coverage after the smoke clears, but for now here are our band picks for each day, along with info on a few after parties. The full festival schedule is here . Mr Curiosity picks: Saturday: [...]
