Whew! Can't wait to see these guys in Miami! Hopefully with Tommie Sunshine and Figure. Read up and snatch the mix below. After a hectic 2009 that took the Mightyfools all over the globe, from Los Angeles to Sydney, Paris to Mexico City, 2010 promises nothing but worldwide succes. New tours have been confirmed and brand new productions will soon be arriving on top-notch labels. Mightyfools, who've lately proved that they are more than just a quick hype, are ready for 2010. They have just finished remixes for names like the Crookers and Tommie Sunshine, and [...]
Braiden has just dropped this mix over at the mighty Lower End Spasm blog. It's great - it's more a mix of influences than a current roundup, and for him that means electro (proper electro, mind you), with strong synthlines, big melodies and classic drum machine sounds. It's top, and even finishes with a UR track for extra real-talk cred points. Check. Original post here. [...]

Alvaro is on his way to joining the likes of Laidback Luke and Chuckie at the top of the Dirty Dutch music scene. This is an excellent remix of Jeremih's Make Up To Break Up . Alvaro keeps the soulfulness from the original and makes you want to dance. Jeremih - Break Up To Make Up (Alvaro Remix)

Onnex is one of the many electro DJ/Producer combos from a beach town suburbs of Los Angeles. He got started spinning in college a year ago and has been working on polishing his skills ever since. His love for electro coupled with his burning contempt for top 40 garbage has been fueling the fire, and has recently lead him to the realm of production. An EP was supposed to drop this month, but due to illness, and booking a ticket to Hawaii on a whim one very, very late night (for the next day), it will come out for sure [...]

2009 was a pretty productive year for music on the whole. Started off with Little Boots being picked as the Sound of 2009 by the BBC, and look where she is now - can see the same happening to Ellie Goulding and Marina & The Diamonds, fortunately/unfortunately. A few strong releases came about, including K'naan's sophomore album Troubadour, one of my favourites, if not the favourite, of last year. Passion Pit started to get a lot bigger, as did the likes of CuDi, both of whom have blown up over the past year with strong debut releases. Can't really [...]
"Ben spends his time listening to his Dads old 70s vinyl and making mixtapes on an old double deck tape recorder. He makes a tape to try and woo the girl next door, Lily, the girl of his dreams. " I really enjoyed this short film by young Brit director, Luke Snellin . I didn't recognize the song that plays a large part in the film, but that's no surprise as I've never been a fan of The Kinks. I've made many mixtapes over the years, starting [...]

Luke Temple's latest music project, Here We Go Magic , played the Music Hall of Williamsburg Friday night on what had to be the coldest night of the year so far. Their upbeat, playful grooves brought a couple hours of warmth to the few hundred of us who were packed into the Williamsburg venue. Thankfully, winter was kept at bay, momentarily. Here We Go Magic plays unfussy, well-executed suburban rock n' roll. (Think of a mash-up of Wings, Ben Folds, and Neil Young). The lyrics are sincere, Temple's tenor is pretty and unaffected, and the song arrangements [...]

I never get much mail really. The electronic type I get tons of, but the real type that comes from Mr. Mailman, rarely. So imagine my delight when I received a CD in the mail, along with a cool numbered art print from Chapel Hill, NC band - Polynya . I have a weakness for indie-pop, female vocals and electronic music, so after a few listens to Crop Rotation , I knew I just had to feature this band. Luckily, band member Luke Berchowitz allowed us to do a virtual sit down, and [...]

Our homies over at Saintwoods.com are on top of their game. Not only do they throw the wildest parties in town, they also got some great resident DJs on their roaster including Kid Aloha who is playing at our pre-valentine event ( click here ) and Love Thy Brother , one of my personal faves since early 2009. We have been blessed with a mind blowing-bone shaking-ear pumping mix that is filled with upcoming Canadian talent. We couldn't explain it better than they did: "So the focus of this mix was [...]

So the focus of this mix was just to get all the upcoming Canadian producers on one big mix. Me and my brother Liam scoured our great frozen land far and wide, under rock and tree, from the deepest depths of Lake Huron to the majestic peaks of the rocky mountains for the sickest, raddest, most cold certified producers in the great white north for one epic slapshot of a mix. After a long and arduous journey we finally assembled these 17 crazy Canuck acts who all graciously offered us both released and unreleased music just in time to pump [...]
Laneway Festival February 1, 2010 Britomart Square, Auckland Last week our Melbourne friends told us that the Laneway Festival is one of the least respected festivals in Australia, we were surprised, but it meant we entered the first Auckland Laneway festival with a hint of scepticism. We'd been told stories of forty minute-queues to see bands, poor facilities and an even poorer location, but on first inspection of the Britomart Square set-up it seemed to be very [...]

It's not uncommon for an artist to not find commercial success with their first record deal, only to grab the spotlight down the road with another label. That happens more often than you might think. Take Kenny Chesney, for instance. He recorded for southern rock label Capricorn back in the early '90s, but it was his signing with BNA in 1995 that led to him become the superstar that he is today. While that scenario happens sometimes in the music business, it's rare that you find an artist be signed to a label, fail to catch on with radio, and [...]

Jason thinks Ra Ra Riot's Ghost Under Rocks is one of the top songs of the year, Bassey reviewed The Liarbirds' driving, almost manic new album, then recommended a music video featuring a bridal cake fight, Tim shilled for Groupon , Spanky Rodriguez reviewed Cam'ron's sequel to Boss of All Bosses, Bassey thinks Logh made a pretty sweet video, Jameson says Black Commune's latest starts with a punch to the face, Europeans make [...]
Pantha Du Prince is the man of the moment. His new 12" The Splendour on Rough Trade is the most elegiac piece of music you are likely to hear this month. Driven by an eerie bell sample it is pastoral techno at its romantic best. Played at high volume, the slow, majestically rumbling bass hits you like an avalanche. The other two tracks – 'Water Falls' and 'Sach Mal Baum' (German for 'Say 'Tree'') – keep up the momentum and sweep you further down the slopes. The Alpine references are no coincidence. Hamburg-based artist [...]

REX has just smashed it with another solid mix for our first 2010 entry into the MNUVRS VAULT ! We have been eagerly awaiting new material from this fella and it has finally arrived in the form of this mix and a cheeky track too. Rex' latest mix proves the diverse nature and talent of one mans skills! Starting off, smoothly blending remixes from Zombie Disco Squad and Roska, the mix comprises Re x ' love for Bassline, with the twisted bass remix from JACK BEATS, and the tropic feel of [...]
