The time hath come to broadcast two industrial sci-fi rock dinosaur vessels, Chrome and Man or Astro-man?! Snoodaard is willfully ignoring the split single they released ('it wasn't the real Chrome anyway') and the last Astrolineup releases ('not fitting') 'Ourcolouredglasses' contains the apocalyptic sonic boom where the last Kiss album and the band Sonic Boom could only dream of! Make what you will of the title and the music, these sounds are surely not in the album collection of your neighbour's wife! My most recent guest dj appearance on Greg "Spacebrother" Bishop's weekly examination of the bizarre is now up. Much thanks to Radio Misterioso for not only having me up, but engineering my often dodgy-quality recordings. "Notable tracks played included a reggae song about Apollo 11, four or five old UFO drop-in songs (think "The Flying Saucer" by Buchanan and Goodman), sounds from the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, elephants playing xyolphones and theremins, a mashup of the Muppets and the Stray Cats, Sad Kermit , and music from L. Ron Hubbard." [...]
Friday, October 23, 2009 I might be calling this week a winner right out of the gate. A rarity in these days of Hollywood dropping trouser on the discerning viewers of the world. Feels a bit like 'Ollywood is ramping up for Halloween, what with a vampire, a werewolf and film about a serial killer named Jigsaw. My enthusiasm, it even makes me a little wary this week. As always, thanks for reading. Hitting Theaters This Weekend: [...]

The band that had the most impact at Indietracks 2009, to these eyes and ears at least, was The Specific Heats. Their set in the packed church was delayed when their reverb unit rebelled against the UK voltage and caught fire in protest, filling the stage with smoke. Once the offending unit was removed, the band, in matching capes, played a spectacularly energetic set of 60s garage-influenced indiepop, with guitarist/singer Mat's leaps and keyboardist Marisa (ex-Besties) head shaking a particularly fine sight. The Specific Heats began in Boston as a development of a solo project by Matt [...]

Ken Burns' latest PBS documentary series, The National Parks - America's Best Idea , debuted last week on television, and is available as a 6-DVD box set on store shelves tomorrow. Other television releases available tomorrow include Ally McBeal: The Complete Series , Bones: The Complete Fourth Season , and Stargate Atlantis: The Complete Series Collection . The Andrew Jackson Jihad show on July 24th at Beat Kitchen might have been the biggest tight-knit party I've ever been to. Maybe it's a mark of what an indie kid I am that I've never been to a show where stage diving wasn't frowned upon and the entire room became a bit of a pit, but that's exactly what happened when Sean Bonette and Ben Gallaty took the stage. A folk-punk duo from Phoenix, Arizona, Andrew Jackson Jihad have been recording tirelessly since 2005 and have [...]

I'm posting this on Saturday night from Monsieur Beans of Willow Glen, a quaint coffeshop near where Nicci's mom lives. Live music in the opposite room, we're huddled in a corner booth enjoying some quality baked goods and a soda. Thanks for letting us use your free Wi-Fi! Awoke on Steve's couch this morning, wondering what the hell had happened at the very end of last night. There were games involved, but I'm pretty sure the table conversation devolved into some unusual topics. I don't know for certain - it's really just a hunch. Nevertheless, Nicci and I [...]

A new TNW mix by Dj Snoodaard of the Raaskalbomfukkerz! So you know what you can expect! A crazy hysteric mix! The late 1990s were an interesting time in music history. People still bought CDs and country, R&B, Latin, pop, and hip-hop all managed to mingle together on the U.S charts. Cher made a huge comeback with the number one song of 1999, "Believe," which set the precedent for every dance song to follow to use a vocoder. That same year, a pre-meltdown Britney and her rival Christina Aguilera topped the charts, and all the members of TLC were still alive. It was still cool (in some people's minds) to like the bubblegum [...]

...hey there, it's been a while. We've been keeping an eye on things from a distance and enjoying one of the best seasons we've seen in a while. We also still take time occasionally to do some work on this blog. We recently had the pleasure of talking with John Schmersal from Enon , who will be rolling into Dayton this weekend to perform at Gilly's. Here's what he had to say... The Buddha Den: It's been a while since Enon has palyed in Dayton [Dayton Music Fest 2007, [...]

Indie rock track with a haunting vibe to it. I know, it's been out for awhile, but I'm just getting around to posting it... what can I say, slow day for new tunes here. St. Vincent - Actor Out of Work last.fm bio Annie Clark (born 28 September, 1982) is an American multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter who performs under the moniker St. Vincent. She was a member of The Polyphonic Spree and Sufjan Stevens' touring band. Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, she began playing the guitar at the age of 12 [...]
Now thats what I call Metallic. I guess I've been in some sort of metallic house mood for the last week and a half. All the tracks I've been into have this cool metallic sound around them with a warm soulful glow in the middle. First up is a track I ripped from the Smackos Astro Unicorn radio show on CBS called Time After Time by a Finnish fellow named Kimmo Rapatti AKA Mono Junk. It's a very unique track and I'm not quite sure how to [...]
Summer's here (almost) and the time is right for dying and reanimating in the streets (or something). Maybe it's due to the swine flu mania (which is really hitting my New York environs again), but I have been really into apocalyptic fiction and Zombie stuff as of late. Additionally, I got a nasty case of Poison Ivy , and I am feeling a little less than human. Here's some stuff to check out: The Stand (expanded edition) - Stephen King : Just re-read for the [...]

Man or Astro-man ? sounded like The Ventures after being anally probed by aliens and promptly dumped behind a Radio Shack. In fact, the band claims to be from outer space but rumor has it they surfed out of the same Auburn, Alabama scene as the Immortal Lee County Killers and The Quadrajets. Dropping science on top of surf guitars, MoAM toured the country with a wagonload of retro tech including theremins and even a homemade tesla coil which remarkably [...]

Diesem [...]

Neil Young's ode to his electric car, Fork in the Road hits store shelves tomorrow. I'm not enamored with this album, but it does whet my appetite for the 8-CD box set coming June 2nd, Neil Young Archives Volume I (1963 - 1972) . I am still in love with the new Micachu release, Jewellery , which sees its U.S. release tomorrow. Other albums I have already heard and can strongly recommend include [...]
