It's possible that no band better defined the aesthetic, attitude, or ethic of Touch & Go's 25-plus-year history than the Jesus Lizard did. The label's 50/50 business model, first started by Factory Records in England, gave the underbelly of American music a creative vehicle it had never had before, with the backing of Chicago, America's closet cultural metropolis, to support the music on a local level. All of that coalesced when Dave Yow and David William Sims, two members of an Austin cult favorite named Scratch Acid, moved to the Windy City. Once there, they promptly made friends with [...]
Setlist: The Continental, October 24, 2009 So Keep jumped in to help me out with DJing at The Continental Saturday night since Rudy had a prior commitment, and I feel comfortable saying we kicked total ass. We got a pretty good early crowd and the place was absolutely choked with bodies by 2 a.m. or so. We decided it was a "zero pop" night and Keep enjoyed playing bad cop to anyone requesting what he deemed not heavy enough. That's not to say we didn't play catchy stuff, we just didn't allow ourselves to be [...]

The Mannequin Men out of Chicago bring forth the rock. Upon an alter built from the bones of the Stiff Little Fingers, these children in the eyes of rock gods have sacrificed a lamb for Lemmy thy Messenger and the gods of rock for safe passage through the foul and turbulent passage that is "The Industry". Their video for "Cream Rises" one of many great songs off their new album, Lose Your Illusion Two ; tis a good omen that they may pass safely through the straits of U2 to the land of wind and ghosts and rock and [...]

Not to be slowed or softened by an inundation of great press and greater fan devotion, Mannequin Men have set out again to bring their brand of sweaty hard drinking swagger to greater America. Blurring the line between punk, rock, noise and damn good fun the group recently released their new album Lose Your Illusion, [...]

Mannequin Men - Massage video Mannequin Men - Cream Rises video
Remember that George Michael clip for "Freedom! '90" where the tune was sung not by the artist himself by lip synced by the unbearably gorgeous supermodels from the late 80s and early 90s? Well, we do. And we think that...
Check out this awesomely bad DIY-esque video for MANNEQUIN MEN 's track Massage

Another week, another early week Ten Tracks You Need. This time it wasn't because of email but because of work, they essentially shifted my entire world last week and I had to move, be trained etc. This left little time for music as I was knee deep in learning how to do things. Anyway, if you're lucky you might just get TWO Ten Tracks You Need this week. One today and one on Friday. I'm slowly catching up and hope to be completely caught up by the end of the week. That just means I'll be collecting track [...]

In the summertime, everything seems to slow down. No one returns your calls or emails at work because they're all on vacation. In the music world, releases slow down from their rapid spring rate. Although this year it seems like there hasn't been much of slow down in stuff coming out this summer, so there is no dearth of new stuff in this edition. Without further ado, and since this isn't France (I don't have enough vacation time to take the whole summer off), here is the summer edition of the basementcast. The track list and [...]

Upon arrival at 5:00 p.m, I promptly headed to the beer garden through the more hipster-congested than usual fashion promenade that is Pike Street. No complaints; the people watching was as hypnotic as the day was gorgeous. I sat on the curb with a $5 High Life, enjoying the fact that one can casually and legally sit on the curb with a beer at a main intersection in Capitol Hill exactly two days per year. My first destination would be 11th Avenue and Union to catch a bit of Flexions at the Vera Stage . [...]

This AWESOME video of Mannequin Men was shot on the Philly date of their current world tour with Davila 666. The band gave it their all and the feedback permeated the air like a crusty in the pit: You could not ESCAPE!!! This post has: 1 Video

Paolo Nutini . You glance at the name and think maybe that's a new flavor of ice cream. Or maybe gelato. Sounds Italian enough, doesn't it? But you'd be wrong. Paolo Nutini is, in fact, a 22-year-old singer/guitarist from Paisley, Scotland (his father is of Tuscan descent) who quickly became a UK heartthrob in the wake of the success of his 2006 pop/soul debut album These Streets . I recall seeing the video for his tune "New Shoes" on the VH1 Top 20 Countdown one Saturday morning and [...]
