Marc Broussard will perform songs from his recently released self-titled album live at Mountain Stage on February 12th. The Louisiana native successfully made the unusual move from the Delta-flavored country of 20042s Carencro to a retro-soul influenced pop style with his recent releases. The stand out track of Marc Broussard by far is the bluesy [...]

Georgia On My Mind is most commonly associated with Ray Charles. It appears on every tribute album to Ray, and Willie Nelson (who recorded the song in 1978) sang it at his funeral. But Georgia was a standard long before Ray Charles made it his own. It was written by Hoagy Carmichael and lyricist Stuart Gorrell in 1930. The story goers that the Georgia of the title was originally intended to refer to Hoagy's sister, but realising that Gorell's words could apply also to the southern US state, the writers were happy to keep things ambiguous. The plan [...]

Like father, like son -- for Louisiana-based blue eyed soul singer, making music runs in the family genes. Marc Broussard was discovered singing and playing guitar on a street corner in Lafayette, La., after he arrived late for a slot as an opening act. Since that time, he's been an in demand performer, as his energetic stage presence and vocal prowess are strong points for the Cajun born, blue-eyed soul singer. And he's a talented songwriter whose personal, emotional touches and genuine R&B influences have deservedly brought him this far. Marc Broussard, his...

By Michael Zonenashvili As a couple of twenty-one year olds going into the elevator to the Pool Deck of the Empire Hotel, my friend and I felt a little out of place. We could have been going up there to see Kanye West and it would still be doubtful that we weren't just two kids going upstairs to try to sneak into a cool part of a cool hotel. Fortunately, the small group of people upstairs at the Empire Hotel...

This might not be the biggest week in new releases. I understand that we have all become accustomed to a certain lifestyle but sometimes we have to do with less. Not that what IS out isn't very good because it is. There just are not as many of them as there were the past few weeks. Check out the list at your leisure, it's summer time after all. 13 & God: Own Your Ghost Book of Knots: Garden of Fainting Stars Brice [...]
I know, I know. It's been a couple weeks. Part-time jobs that turn into full-time jobs have been the culprit thus far. Hopefully things are starting to get a little sorted, so I can stop being a bum when it comes to Buzzgrinderland. It's another one of those weeks where the reissues trump the new releases. That would be the case if only for Sebadoh 's Bakesale , but there's also the Joy Division / New Order comp and a kind of new album (it has five previously unreleased tracks and is from 1984) [...]
Since 20092s Begone Dull Care , we've hung to nearly every word we could on Junior Boys . Now, with the new album headlining the week's list, it's time to let everyone in on the secret: electronic music works, but it's all about knowing how to slow the tempo down and keep things moving. It's All True packs that punch of sped-up beats trickled around a simmered, synthetic groove. Owl City on the other hand, with All Things Bright & [...]

► Sunset Junction's website teased a music lineup announcement today, but there's no word yet. There are plenty of great names floating around on the rumor mill for the Aug. 27-28 street fair. How would you feel about another blast from the Melvins (who did a Silver Lake residency in January)? Yeah, that'd be nice. So would some indie-rock from Clap Your Hands Say Yeah and Tapes N Tapes , as would some upbeat pop from the likes of Hanson and the Belle Brigade . Also unconfirmed [...]

This guy! Talk about commanding the stage. Marc Broussard 's newest album, "Marc Broussard" is due to be released in June 2011. An early release called "Marc Broussard EP" was released March 22, 2011 and features the new singles Lucky and Only Everything which I got to hear live during his Uptown performance. With distinct Southern roots, Marc's style is best described as "Bayou Soul" seamlessly blending a mix of funk, blues and electrifying personality that makes it hard to forget that he isn't a friend you've known your whole life. [...]

In 1966, the Robert Mondavi Winery was one of the first in the Napa Valley to open their doors to visitors for tours, events, concerts and tastings. Since then, their social events and collaborations with artists in music, film and print have become world-renowned. So it seems only right to kick off our "Live in the Vineyard" weekend at the warm, mission-styled Mondavi Winery. Matthew Morrison was tonight's special guest performer. He's releasing a debut solo album on May 10th and previewed a few songs for a very [...]
