Inlets - Bright Orange Air So, I've moved house, and I know live even closer to the sea than before. I only mention this because this song has that kind of air to it - an odd mix of the beauty nature has to offer and the mundane practicalities of human invention. A little like looking at the the open empty sea by night, and noticing a helicopter in the distance, a single skipping white light, like a pebble thrown over the waves. Inlets ' debut album is finally here, and it's called [...]
Inlets, photo by Kristianna Smith A long time ago, in 2006, Sebastian Krueger released a free ep under the name Inlets , and I have been waiting for more music from him ever since. In 2010, my waiting is at an end, - Inlets will release his debut " Inter Arbiter " on the 20th April. When I said "..more music from..." in the above sentence, that's actually not very precise. Krueger has delivered music through all these years, but mostly as a musician for other artists, [...]

Folks have been waiting a long while for Wisconsin-to-Brooklyn BTW Inlets to follow 2006's The Vestibule EP. It's not like he disappeared. There have been some stirrings. In April of '08 we posted " Your Good Arm ," a song that now shows up at the end of his full-length debut Inter Arbiter . And it makes sense the collection took awhile. The one-man band recorded it at home, when he could. That, and Sebastian Krueger's ambitious, brainy, somehow simple-but-baroque compositions share a complexity of Owen Pallett or Grizzly Bear or a number of Krueger's [...]

Asthmatic Kitty has just recently announced the release of a tribute to Steven's sophomore record Enjoy Your Rabbit . The Osso Quartet, who contributed string arrangements for both Stevens' heralded Illinois and My Brightest Diamond's Bring Me the Workhorse , have rearranged and recorded Enjoy Your Rabbit for the string quartet. The album is titled Run Rabbit Run and set to be released on October 6th by Asthmatic Kitty. Enjoy Your Rabbit, a collection of electronic instrumental pieces inspired by the different animals of the Chinese Zodiac, has been the only Sufjan [...]

In 2001 composer and multi-instrumentalist Sufjan Stevens released his sophomore album 'Enjoy Your Rabbit' - a collection of 14 electronic instrumental pieces, each inspired by a different animal of the Chinese Zodiac. In the time since that record's release, Stevens has expanded his repertoire to include collaborations with a number of artists including the Osso Quartet , who contributed string arrangements to Stevens' Illinois as well as My Brightest Diamond 's Bring Me the Workhorse .

So have nothing to do this Saturday? Live at least close to Eastern Seaboard of the United States? Well I have an event for you! Anyone who knows me, knows that I am a fan of Christian Kiefer and thanks to the internet, we ended up being friends. Well we have never met, but our paths have crossed many times and I consider him a stand up guy, someone who I would support when needed. This is that time, Christian Kiefer and friends are having a bit of a "Songs for Presidents" concert this Saturday in Washington D.C. [...]
DOWNLOAD: Jennifer O'Connor - Here with Me (MP3) DOWNLOAD: Jennifer O'Connor - Valley Road '86 (MP3) I'm doing pretty good with my guesses so far. Sure, there are a lot of obvious records and and artists to look forward to in 2009, but who are the ones that are going to come out of nowhere and knock your socks off? Yeah, normally you might just need to check Gorilla Vs. Bear religiously to find out, but we'll do our best over the next couple weeks to point out a few we think are gonna raise some eyebrows and shake some knees. We'll start off close to home. [...]

I'm bummed I can't see this. If you're in the area, you should go. I thought the Of Great and Mortal Men: 43 Songs for 43 U.S. Presidencies was one of the cooler projects of 2008 and even interviewed J. Matthew Gerken, Christian Kiefer and Jefferson Pitcher about this show and their holiday plans recently. Washington City Paper Presents: Songs for Presidents : A Bands for Lands benefit celebrating the Presidential inauguration with performances from the critically acclaimed [...]

We were pretty stoked that our friends at Standard Recording Co. put out Of Great & Mortal Men : 48 Songs For 48 Presidencies , the project from Matthew Gerken , Christen Kiefer and Jefferson Pitcher . ( Previous MOKB post ) Gerken, Kiefer and Pitcher have composed 43 songs, one for each of the past and current presidents and released them all in a three-disc set. The songs are [...]

I don't have a full Christmas mix this year due mostly to licensing issues, but I do have a trio of some beautiful Christmas tracks and a new Christmas compilation you can buy and feel all warm and fuzzy inside as your hard earned cach goes to a very good cause with Peace on Earth Vol.II . First of all, here is a video of First Aid Kit playing Blue Christmas. It's a beautiful, quite traditional, rendition with just a guitar and organ from the promising Swedish duo recently signed to Wichita. and [...]

There is barely a month to go before Christmas. Are you already sick to death of that holiday-themed drivel all the stores started playing right after Halloween? Personally, I love the holiday season and the joy of giving presents, but Bing Crosby sends me screaming. That's why I am tickled to bits to find great alternatives to the stodgy standards. Caleb at Hard To Find a Friend blog is once again sponsoring a holiday fund-raiser that rewards your donation with an exclusive digital-only compilation of brand-new and completely exclusive [...]
Sure, a Wii would be pretty sweet, but with everything that's been going on, wouldn't you rather have peace on earth this Christmas? The folks at Hard to Find a Friend aren't making any lofty promises as to goodwill towards men and all that, but darn it if their Peace on Earth Vol. II compilation won't get you closer to such a thing than Santa ever did. Coupling Christmas favorites and seasonal originals from the likes of Oxford Collapse, a reunited American Analog Set, Jason Collett, Pattern Is Movement, [...]
