By Patrick Jarenwattananon Spectacular flop #3: Kevin Federline. ( Mark Davis/Getty Images ) Schadenfreude never seems as sweet as it does when it's directed at the music industry. We fans understand, of course, that the vast majority of those employed by said industry are passionate about what they do. Which makes it all the more fun to [...]
Electronic musician Dan Deacon , producer of this year's impressive Bromst LP and absolutely insane live music force, has been hospitalized with acute sciatica, a condition of the lower back, and forced to cancel the remainder of the shows on his current tour. Deacon's live show is a sight to behold, as dude plays on the floor with a table full of homemade instruments, flys around the crowd, messes with buttons that only he has any idea what they do, organizes dance-offs and generally blows minds. Thankfully for those who [...]
Sure it's Big Pun's birthday (born 1971) and Scarface's too (1970). But how many of us would know that if not for the internet. On the other hand my generation lived through two unforgettable November 9th's. In 1989 there was the fall of the Berlin Wall . Germany reunited, the Scorpions sang about the Wind of Change, two summers later there'd be a coup in the USSR and then just a fizzling out of the whole half a century old Cold War. I don't think kids today even understand what it meant to [...]

It's not the bag of trash pictured above, it's more like a CVS bag filled with fountain drinks and Taco Bell wrappers. It's not outside an apartment building either, or an alley. It's on the bottom step of the stairs leading up to my apartment, and when I got home from a week in NYC last Friday, it was the first thing to greet me. It also said goodbye to me when I left for work this morning. How it got there? I don't know. Why has it remained there for at least a week? That answer is also beyond [...]

Cobra fans pretty much knew what they were getting into once the cover art for the band's third LP hit the WWW. Hot Mess was suspected to be a dancy, catchy, sassy, slightly trashy piece of work. So why would the music video for the title track be any different? We gathered some clues when they gave Buzznet some photos from the set , but despite the obvious cleaning crew with hard hats part, the possibilities were still open-ended. Well, kinda. Not ALL videos go right [...]

The piano is a bit of a weird instrument when you think about it. It has a lot of range, and a lot potential but it is kind of rare for someone to do something different. Sure Ben Folds messes around with it a bit, but it is still just boils down to a blending of genres. However there is one person doing some interesting stuff with it and that is Kristeen Young . Kristeen Young is an experimental group made up of Kristeen Young on piano and Baby Jef White on drums. What [...]

A lot can be learned from the mistakes made by both David Letterman and ESPN personality Steve Phillips . You should never bang the assistant or the intern. Their social climbing skills are that of a Sherpa with a 3G Blackberry. It's not wrong to want to sleep with the "help," they just poked the wrong set of subordinates. It's key that whenever engaging in an extra marital affair to only sleep with the cleaning ladies. Polish. Mexican. White and with a slight Meth problem. In my limited time on this Earth, I've learned that maids don't like to [...]

Sure, plenty of shows come to town and there are plenty of reasons to be excited about each and every one of them. But, unlike people, all shows are not created equal. Some shows are just more worthy of your unbridled enthusiasm. Scott H. Biram falls into that category. When Scott comes to your town you need to lock up the womenfolk, drink a few whiskey shots and get your ass to the show. I think my card carrying status in Scott's Church of the Ultimate Fanaticism Fan Club is well documented here on ninebullets, so I am gonna quote [...]
Courtney Love 's been so busy cleaning up her financial messes that she's neglected to pay the people who clean her physical messes. Last February, Elite Maids brought a lawsuit against Love, claiming she owed thousands of dollars for their housecleaning services. When the Hole singer neglected to appear at the court date last Thursday, the judge ruled against her by default, ordering her to pay $3,058.48. This is the latest in a slew of debts Love has incurred this year. Last month her former bodyguards sued her for $60,000 [...]

Read, laugh, enjoy. Is it wrong that I enjoy reading things where people just mercilessly fuck with other people? Does that make me a bad person? Anyway, No First Date is what happens when a bored 28-year-old dude sets up a profile as a "hot girl" on some dating service and then messes with potential gentlemen callers.

[Mute; 10/06/2009] The "summer-beach-pop" discourse has been built up and proliferated with such force recently that it may take a while for most of us to realize how inexcusable it was to allow seasonal language to overshadow the caliber of the music itself. But when the sun says goodbye to the once-bright sky and the ice returns to haunt our hearts and turn our sidewalks into fucked-up, slippery, sloshed-out messes, the sounds of summer will, just like summer itself, fade away like all sunny-ephemera does. There will be frostburn and snot-icicles where there was once sunburn and sand-snot. [...]

What, you weren't seeing Hands & Knees play live on Knox Road Radio? I guess you were probably busy sitting and thinking about all the awesome things that happened on Knox Road this week. When the video boasting a sentient-rocks-that-shoot-lase r-beams narrative for Mew's " Introducing Palace Players " hit the web, the band helpfully added we shouldn't feel "like an idiot" for not understanding any of it. Which at worst was patronizing ("you're probably just not smart enough!") and at best was some thoughtful empty words while you sat around feeling like an idiot anyway. But it was very pretty! and sorta science-fictiony. The clip for the wispy then resplendent muscle and math rocker " Repeaterbeater " delivers both elements again -- the element of sci-fi (weird dresses!) and the element of making you [...]
