It's not always an easy ride when bands try to break it Stateside, especially when you are one of the biggest selling bands in the UK. I am talking about the Editors, who have released two platinum albums, been nominated for Best British Band, headlined the biggest festivals and consistently sold-out venues across Europe. You could say they are Britain's indie darlings. So, it's understandable how a band with such an impressive resume can go slightly unheard of amongst the great mass of North America. Last night, however, Editors proved how easy it was with a little English charm. [...]

ShockTillYouDrop.com reports that Stephen King's 1998 novel "Bag of Bones" is no longer headed to the big screen, but instead will be adapted for television by Mick Garris, director of TV adaptations of King's "The Shining," "The Stand" and "Desperation," and screenwriter Matt Venne. "We're finalizing our deal," Garris told the site, "and will hopefully be shooting late-spring, early-summer." Where "Bag of Bones" TV mini-series will reside on the small screen is to be announced shortly. In the book, novelist Mike Noonan still suffers writers block several years after his wife's [...]

Recommended Show: SATURDAY, JANUARY 30, 2010 DINOWALRUS & JAVELIN @ HOUSE OF YES 342 Maujer St Brooklyn, NY 11206 $10, 8PM I've never heard of the venue before, but if the lineup includes Javelin and Dinowalrus , tonight's show at House of Yes should make it notable. The venue seems to be an " art space " off the Grand Street L train stop in Brooklyn. Also on the bill for the evening include Shark? , Aval Luna , and The Shivers . Evan Dando [...]

Many of us grew up listening to Bobbito and Stretch Armstrong premiere some of the finest Hip-Hop tracks and MCs on WKCR. So many cats that I hold in high esteem today were first heard on that show. Anyways, after a long while, Bob made his return to WKCR via Squeeze Radio; with AG and Mr. Len by his side, they went IN for four hours, with new shit and classics. You need this. As the Music Like Dirt top tracks of the year list returns for a fifth edition, it once again falls short of being the most comprehensive, the most knowledgeable or the most bleedin' edge. It is however consistently the latest and for that I apologise and hold out the hope that as the light fades on January there are still a few hardy souls out there who wish to pick over the embers of 2009. It was compiled from a shortlist of around a 1000 tracks, through a process of demented indecision until I gave up whittling at [...]

You may remember that a while ago I blogged about Mustard Pimp compiling an astonishing 12 hour mix - well the sneaky French duo have now topped that with an epic 24 hour compilation mix made up of nearly every genre going! It's all in the honour of the new series of 24 which is about to start on Sky. I really didn't follow the last series, I tried but it's hard work. Seriously, how many times does Jack need to save the world? Jean Claude Van Damme wouldn't have had these issues, he'd simply kick [...]

It's quite rare that I enthuse about a band after only hearing a few songs, but there's something about Krupke that intrigues me. When I was a child, I used to take all of my favourite drinks and throw them into a blender expecting to invent a drink that couldn't help but be a veritable taste explosion. However, I think most children have tried this experiment at one time or another and we all know what happens: vomiting and the occasional trip to the doctor. Usually these sort of blends simply do not work. However, Krupke's bizarre combo [...]

Mustard Pimp have topped their 12 hour hercules mixtape with one which lasts a whole bloody day! Massive amount of music from many different genres, including hip-hop, rock and most dance sub-genres. Fucking nutters they are. Here's the link and the ridiculous tracklisiting. MUSTARD PIMP - JACK BAUER MIXTAPE Tracklisting down here! Hour 1 1)Mustard Pimp – Scissors (Intro Edit) 2)Boris Dlugosch – Bangkok 3)Sonicc [...]

I used to work on a farm with a couple yoga teachers, and they'd stop in the row and teach us some stretches. We came up with the theory of "opposite yoga postures" with regard to bending and weeding or standing and hoeing -- basically mixing up the effort to not get all bunched up and knotted. Some tension. Some release. I went to a yoga class this morning. My first. The class was just the thing. A vacation from the self. A deep-breathing encounter with all the inconvenient truths of the body and the mind. There's some deep-tissue reckoning [...]

Our crazy friends from France have done it again. This time they outdone anything we could ever think of. Mustard Pimp goes in the footstep of the popular tv-show 24 and produces a 24 h mixtape. It is crazy, but in a good way. The best thing is that you can enjoy them in the same way that you enjoy 24, hour for hour. Download the 24 episodes here (mediafire folder) Look at the 800+ tracklist after the jump. Hour 1 1)Mustard [...]

So over the coming weeks we're gonna be highlighting some acts we think are gonna be worth watching in 2010. We start off with Jayou . Cracking out a fresh style of dubstep that we here at Sly Fly are really feeling. Watch out for him playing a town near you soon and if your from London just you wait, he'll be down at SOME in no time! A couple beats for you to check out..... [...]
Here's what's going on in Chicago this week. As always, my picks are in bold . The obvious highlight of the week is the Tomorrow Never Knows festival taking place at Schubas and Lincoln Hall, and, in turn, the highlight of the festival - for me, at least - is getting to see The Rural Alberta Advantage for the first time since last April. If you haven't seen them yet, or even if you have, you really need to go to this show. Aside from the RAA, I also [...]

Austin can now add another band to their ever-increasing list of up and coming young artists; this one goes by Harlem . Formed during the summer of 2007 in Nashville, TN, the duo of Michael Coomers and Curtis O'Mara were soon "blacklisted in Nashville for getting into fights with all the kids who played music there." The duo then brought their raucous live show, which includes the duo switching between guitar and drums throughout, to Tucson and then to California. Curtis claims they "moved to California for fame and fortune but all we [...]
Back in 2005, four guys based out of Monaghan called Mike Got Spiked released their debut album Caveat Emptor . It was a slice of alternative rock with influences from metal to ska to jazz. A year of mostly unrewarded hard work of trying to get the album into the Irish media and played on Irish radio led to the band quitting their jobs and moving full time to the USA. Since 2006, they have been on tour almost constantly, traveling up and down, across and back the entire United States, selling out shows, [...]

As the weather slips deeper and deeper into what feels like an arctic tundra, LRG have pushed forward and released a preview of the Spring 2010 collection look book filled with warm and vivid imagery. Shot in Yosemite on location in the wild as the backdrop resulting in such amazing photography. This last minute photoshoot is modeled by team skaters Rob Gonzalez, Karl Watson and Kelly Hart as well as up and coming artist Mike Posner. Still very colorful and fragrant yet more refined, polished and distinguished propelling Lifted Research Group [...]

#1 Arctic Monkeys - Humbug This incredibly well-written and musically perfect album is a total success! The fantastic four have managed to become the most exciting rock band around in less than four years, thanks to deep, dark, nervous and exciting tracks. Favourite tracks : My Propeller, Cornerstone, Crying Lightning #2 Dragonette - [...]
