"A lot of it ain't going to be pretty. I've done some bad things in my time. I've always been drawn to the dark side, me. But I ain't the devil. I'm just John Osbourne: a working-class kid from Aston, who quit his job in the factory and went looking for a good time." I AM OZZY By Ozzy Osbourne "His autobiography describes the excesses of his rock 'n' roll lifestyle—every bottle, needle, pill, girl, and gun. Holding back nothing, this is horrific, fascinating, and often hilarious…the voice here is pure Ozzy. One of [...]

Joe Jackson went on Larry King Live last night to discuss the charges against Dr. Conrad Murray, now released on $75,000 bail . "I didn't like those charges. He got off too easy," the Jackson patriarch told King, adding that he believes his son's death involved "other people" besides Murray, who he says is simply "the fall guy." Is Michael Jackson the new JFK? Watch the vid below to hear Joe's paranoid ramblings: According to Joe Jackson, Murray did not act alone. "There's other people involved with [...]

Unless you've been living in an isolated, internetless location for the last four years, you're likely aware of Daytrotter . The site started in 2006 and, in the four years since, has provided listeners with nearly ten million free, live tunes from their favorite bands. I will say that again for dramatic effect and because I enjoy repeating myself: ten million tunes. Free. As important as providing music lovers with access to all of those sessions, Daytrotter offers a reminder of just how pure and rewarding it is to really love, and really appreciate, music is. Stripped [...]

Who : The Ruby Suns Title : Fight Softly Release Date : March 2nd Label : Sub Pop Thoughts : As a huge fan of The Ruby Suns last effort, Sea Lion , I was a bit concerned when I heard that Ryan McPhun and company were going to veer away from the catchy indie pop that had so fully endeared me and countless others to the band in the [...]
For this week Sunday Video i ask Ababil Ashari (a lo-fi-emo enthusiast/med school student) to curate this week video, and here we go, he shares some knowledge and his favorite videos for you. Enjoy this week theme "Emo" 01. Jimmy Eat World - "Rockstar" 2nd generation Jimmy Eat World is my absolute favorite emo band. For me, Jimmy Eat World's take on emo, especially during the Capitol years, is the most honest and unpretentious version out there. You really know what it feels like [...]

TLTN Keeps It Hardcore When Metallica played in Jakarta in 1993, a riot broke out between security and fans without tickets. It was clear that heavy metal had gained steam in Indonesia and that fans identified with the drama and rage metal bands exuded on stage. The genre dwindled in the late 1990s, but heavy metal made a comeback in the early 2000s, with bands like As I Lay Dying from the United States and UK group Bullet For My Valentine. These groups retained the instrumental heaviness of the Metallica era, but ornamented it with [...]

Junkies vs Rain (Djuma boot) Lars Bjarno Jensen, Mikkas Skulstad and Frantz Thomasen formed the Danish/Norwegian trio Djuma Soundsystem with the intention to create something more edgy than the cliché etnic Ibiza house dominating the dancefloors at the time being. The first attempt to transform the dance floor oriented music resulted in "Les Djinns". What happened next, could just simply be described as a straight journey towards stardom. Or maybe not. Frantz Thomasen dropped out to consent his own solo career and it was not actually until 2006 when, the renowned record label [...]
2009 was a pretty productive year for music on the whole. Started off with Little Boots being picked as the Sound of 2009 by the BBC, and look where she is now - can see the same happening to Ellie Goulding and Marina & The Diamonds, fortunately/unfortunately. A few strong releases came about, including K'naan's sophomore album Troubadour, one of my favourites, if not the favourite, of last year. Passion Pit started to get a lot bigger, as did the likes of CuDi, both of whom have blown up over the past year with strong debut releases. Can't really [...]

AS WE GET OLDER dreams of stardom inevitably slip away - who wants to be stomping round a stage at an age when a nice snooze holds more appeal than a line of cocaine? But what about management? How hard can that be? Surely you can just look at the fictional likes of Spinal Tap's Ian Faith and Flight Of The Conchords' Murray Hewitt and do the exact opposite and thus guarantee success. But in fact, things can go very wrong indeed, as these case studies show. 1. Brian Epstein The [...]
The lovely kids at PS22 on Staten Island are getting pretty popular these days. As of this morning, the PS22 chorus has received over 15 million hits on their youtube videos - 3 million alone in January of 2010! For those of you who aren't familiar with the chorus and their ambitious instructor, Gregg Breinberg (or Mr. B) I highly recommend a trip over to the PS22 Blog. You'll find all sorts of great stories and videos of performances and rehearsals of some pretty unusual material for 5th graders. I'm talking Björk, Nick Drake, Jay-Z and Nina Simone! [...]

We are just a few days away from America's biggest unofficial holiday - Super Bowl Sunday! While we're still reeling over the Jets being ousted by the Colts we will still be tuning in Sunday to see if the Saints can set off the party of the century down in the Bayou or if Peyton Manning will continue to be the poster boy for the NFL. We're also excited to see all the brand new commercials that footed the enormous $3-million for 30-seconds bill, all the food and beer that goes perfectly with the game, and quite possibly some of [...]

Fresh off Beyonce's record-breaking six Grammy Award wins Sunday night (and a fiery, weave-tossing, Alanis-covering stage performance that only renewed our wishes for the diva to commit to recording an R&B-and-rock-themed album in the stylistic vein of En Vogue's "Free Your Mind" or Janet Jackson's "Black Cat"), Major Lazer and Elephant Man bring this cover of her Best Female Pop Vocal Performance-owning "Halo", trading in the original lyric's Hallmark beau praise for Elephant Man's shower-singing growls about "haters", "hypocrites" and "bad man". Yeah...we don't get it either, though it does lead one to wondering [...]
Time for my belated and bloated annual look back at the past year... yes, we're mere hours away from February, but I started a dangerous precedent last year when I posted my year-end review at the end of January. Last year saw a dramatic drop in my post count, less than half the posts of 2008 and my lowest total since 2006. I partially blame the lingering effect of that blogger crackdown, but another contributing factor is the new job I started around the same time in late '08. Now I'm more or less happy with one [...]

In anticipation of Angels & Airwaves ' third studio effort next month, vocalist and guitarist Tom DeLonge spoke to Billboard about its low-key release, the corresponding feature film, and oh yeah, his other band. For those itching to hear news about Blink-182, the outlook isn't too appeasing, so let's start with A&A first. Titled Love , the forthcoming studio effort from this U2-inspired band will surface February 14th, both as a free download via the band's official site and also for purchase through either iTunes or retail outlets worldwide as a deluxe version. [...]
This tour started a few weeks back on the East Coast of these great United States, January 6th at the Knitting Factory in Brooklyn, New York to be exact. And after weaving and winding across damn near every state between here and there, facing the typical road woes like inclement weather and broken down vehicles, the Metal As Art Tour , made up of Hypno5e , Revocation , and The Binary Code , made its way across the state line of California, where these road warriors were hoping to see some of the typical [...]

Angels and Airwaves spoke to Billboard about their upcoming album, Love , which is due out February 14, 2010 . According to the report, frontman Tom DeLonge has been self-funding the record to the tune of a personal commitment of about $500,000. The record will be released digitally for free and the band hopes to recoup through corporate sponsorships, touring, merchandise sales, premium exclusive tracks and videos on the band's Web site and by selling a deluxe version of "Love" with 30 minutes of exclusive bonus material. Delonge had originally [...]

Fan Fiction, aside from an ingredients panel, is the most marginal of literary genres. Since the 17th century when Cervantes' Don Quixote was sabotaged by amateur scribblers, Fan Fiction throughout the ages has clung to the underbelly of good writing like barnacles on the Starship Enterprise . Last month I was challenged by Music To Spazz By Jingle Producer Nutley Sam Elwitt to partake in a literary joust of the schlubbiest kind: an Adam-12 Fan Fiction Contest. Adam-12 Fan Fiction really does exist and it's serious business [...]
