Relish bod Headman comes correct with a timely trip to the dark side of cosmic. His edit-heavy mix of leftfield italo, mutant disco and spaced-out pop shows lays down a marker for the label's current state of mind: a new compilation, 'Relish 22, features tracks and remixes from Prins Thomas, C90, David Gilmore Girls, Rory Philips and Robi Insinna, aka the Headman himself. www.bodytonicmusic.com/podcast s/2009/oct/29/bodytonic-podcas t-053-headman/ Tracklist Klaus Schulze 'Tango-Saty' Edit [Brain] 400 Blows 'Club Pressure' Edit [Illuminated Records] [...]

As always, there's an eight-hour pile of tracks for you today. Here's how it breaks down: - Six songs get repeated in that eight hours, so it's four hours between plays for those six songs. They're the ones in " The Grinder ", in case you're wondering what I mean by that when I say it on the FM Showcase (which, by the way, is on 90.5 The Night tonight at 10pm .) - The rest of the songs are set up so [...]
The most common advice these days is "to give a little to get a little," which the San Francisco music community is showing full understanding of with Friday's Recession Proof Party. The Independent and Leather Feather will host a cover-free evening of live music with Tornado Rider , LSD and the Search for God , Minipop and DJ Audrock - and the first 50 attendees will receive a complimentary show poster. Friday's bill covers the bases for most on a budget, from succulent shoegazy pop - LSD is undeniably a [...]

If you are fan of one or maybe more of these bands (as I guess), have a stop at the daytrotter and get the 4 song sessions of them! Incredible concept, incredible acceptance, incredible songs... Selection for Day 3 (March 20): Alela Diane I realised I've been going through a folk phase lately, constantly listening to music by talented acts such as Laura Marling , Laura Gibson and William Elliott Whitmore . Now, there's Alela Diane to add to the list. Her second album has received plenty of accolades in the music circles, and for obvious reasons so. "White As Diamonds" conjures an image of [...]

This is an ever changing and (hopefully) expanding list of some of the songs I have mentioned before in this blog or simply stuff I have found somewhere on the web that I find interesting, but have no time to write about. All files have been found somewhere in cyberspace (and NONE of them have uploaded by me, so I cannot help you with any requests you might have - just keep returning and something new might pop up), so they will be available until the artists, record labels, fans, whatever decide to remove them. Thanks to a few readers, [...]
I had complained that it was difficult to go through the 1,800+ band list on SXSW 's site and find what bands had been added and removed. A few hours later, a kind donewaiting.com reader (Jay Sutton) sent me lists of just the bands added and removed. He used computer magic. Silversun Pickups were added... Amanda Palmer, too... Lots and lots more.. (almost 800).. (Also, although not on the list, PJ Harvey is gonna be there too). Sadly, bands like The Vaselines and Raveonettes are no longer on the list. Could be an [...]

1). " First Time High " (Reconstructionist Remix of "An Eluardian Instance") - Of Montreal Jon Brion takes one of the better songs from Of Montreal's Skeletal Lamping and makes it, well, better. Brio doesn't change much - more some handy rearranging which makes it more of a great stand-alone song. 2). "Till min syster" - Love Lindblom I try to stay tuned in to new sounds coming from Scandinavia, and Swedesplease (the source of this gem) is making that a good deal easier. 3). "Know" - Nick Drake [...]

Liam Henry It's really of no surprise whatsoever that I misread the offer tied to pre-orders of Sky Larkin's debut album The Golden Spike , which I reported on a couple weeks back . I had thought that by committing to the purchase, you'd immediately get MP3 downloads of both the album proper and the live recordings of the same songs. As it turns out, you just get the live set. But that's okay, because February 9 isn't that far off and the live version of [...]

I was pleasantly surprised today when I checked out the ol' Daytrotter . You may remember we interviewed San Francisco's Minipop last month and they just did a session this week. So, it's nice to see that Daytrotter is riding BFD's coat tails. I really think it's about time that someone did. The good part about their particular session is that of the four songs they recorded, three are unreleased tracks, including their take on The Flaming Lips "Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots, Pt. 1." If you [...]

NPR is streaming Bruce Springsteen's new album, Working on a Dream (out January 27th), in its entirety. PopMatters reviews Andrew Bird's new album, Noble Beast (out tomorrow). If Armchair Apocrypha was Bird's reaction against his previous albums' string-heavy bent, then his latest full-length, Noble Beast , in turn serves as a reaction against Armchair Apocrypha . Gone are the sonically generous compositions, as [...]

The Guardian reviews the new Antony and the Johnsons album, The Crying Light (out Tuesday). Hegarty has simply switched perspectives, swapping the bittersweet introspection of I Am a Bird Now for a more extrovert approach. It's as if all that acclaim has allowed him to relax and consider something beyond his own neurosis, the spine of the album being a series of ballads about the environment, Another World, Daylight the Sun and Everglade. [...]

I recently got to do a Q&A with Matthew Swanson from one of my favorite-ist bands, Minipop . They hail from the great Bay in San Francisco, CA and their album A New Hope has been a constant in my CD player for the better part of this year. I first heard about them via an article on Spin.com that was highlighting acts at the 2008 SXSW conference. They had a single to download called "Like I Do," I swear to got I listened to that damn song like 10 times in a [...]
