We're happy to see that perennially knit-capped, Mercury Prize-winning Brit singer/songwriter Damon Gough -- aka Badly Drawn Boy -- is back for his first new recordings since 2006's Born In the U.K. Similar to his acclaimed songcycle/score for the '03 Nick Hornby film About A Boy , new album is Is There Nothing We Could Do" a collection of 15 new songs "from and inspired by" the upcoming British TV film The Fattest Man In Britain starring busy character actor Timothy Spall. New project arrives overseas on December 14 -- hopefully we'll see [...]
Death Cab For Cutie forsangeren Ben Gibbards hyggeprojekt The Postal Service rendte med 2. pladsen, blandt andet foran to [...]

It's never easy to map out an entire decade in music. So, in constructing the "Decade in Music" interactive timeline , we sought to shape it with some of the bigger tent-pole trends, news (Elton John performing with Eminem) and groundbreaking changes in the industry, business and technology (Napster, the iPod). We also wanted to highlight albums (Britney Spears, Danger Mouse, Radiohead) that took a snapshot of the era, as well as deaths (Ray Charles, Johnny Cash) that affected everyone. And, of course, we wanted to include the occasional "wardrobe malfunction" controversy or bizarre curiosity ("Trapped in the Closet") [...]

All Smiles — the nom de tune of songwriter-guitarist Jim Fairchild — this week released a new EP, "Fall Never Fell," the follow-up to his sophomore album "Oh For the Getting and Not Letting Go" (which is also finally seeing physical release). Fairchild, the former Grandaddy guitarist who is now touring axeman in Modest Mouse, again collaborated with Solon Bixler ( Great Northern ), Nik Freitas (Mystic Valley Band) and Joe Plummer ( Modest Mouse ) on the new songs. In addition to the new EP, he's releasing a free download of "The Comparison Blouse," [...]
The fine folks over at A.V. Club have posted their best-of-the-decade music list today, and at number one they've got the White Stripes' White Blood Cells. That pick is sure to start some rabble-rabble below, but it's a solid pick, backing away from the easy gimme of putting Kid A on top. Though I do take umbrage with calling White Blood Cells "true," since most of the songs are far from any "truth" as I know it. Still though, solid pick. The top ten is rounded out by [...]

Artist: Modest Mouse Album: The Moon and Antarctica Release Date: June 13, 2000 I'm not going to lie and tell you that I'm the biggest Modest Mouse fan. Hell, before earlier this year I hadn't even heard any of their stuff beyond their recent radio singles, which were alright, but nothing special. Listening to The Moon and Antarctica right now, while I hear what it is that people like about the band, it's not exactly my thing. They score big points in my book [...]

Norah Jones is back with The Fall , her fourth offering since her silken debut in 2002. As such it represents quite a departure from her previous work. The latest album sees the artiste mix and match different sounds along with a new set of collaborators, including Jacquire King, a producer and engineer who has notched bands like Kings of Leon and Modest Mouse plus Tom Waits on his cv. Jones wrote nearly all of the songs in the past and most of the songwriting credits here still go to [...]

Three weeks ago I posted a list of my 50 favorite albums of the past decade. You can catch up with that here , here , here , here , and here , if you'd like. While drafting the list I found that I rediscovered plenty of albums that were and are still worthy of more attention, even though they ultimately weren't included on the finished product. It was extremely difficult to cut many of them, especially those made by lesser-known artists. So starting last week, continuing today, and for the next 2 Mondays I'll [...]

Being the young age I am (under 30) this last decade was really the one where I can intensely focus on new releases, critically analyze and find real magic in modern music. As much as I wish I was cool enough to say I bought "Slanted and Enchanted" on vinyl the day it came out or smoke a joint and sit around with my friends about to listen to "The Bends follow-up album" with everyone saying "this better not suck!" But since I never saw Nirvana in a basement and didn't hear "Loveless" until Billy Corgan recommended it I'll just stick to [...]
New Music Video ! See It For Yourself... Heath Ledger directed the video sometime before his death. It was only released just this week. Actor and director Heath Ledger's body of work continues to grow following his accidental drug overdose in January. We are all aware of his chilling and [...]

What a pleasure it was to be able to see Dolores O'Riordan and The Cranberries perform for the first time in six years at Rams Head Live ! I was shocked to see that they were reuniting for a tour, and even more shocked to see that they were starting their tour in Baltimore! The band played a 17 song set, ending with a 4 song encore that closed the show with classic single, "Dreams." Their performance and sound were both amazing; Dolores herself even commented that they [...]
