The Morning Benders - Waiting for a War Fun song. Kooks like.
2010 is shaping up to be a lot like 2009 for San Francisco's Girls . Well, maybe not quite the same, unless they announce a surprise sophomore record (wishful thinking, I know, but is that really a bad thing?). Anyway, with the release of its lush debut Album , the band settled in and played a slew of dates across the nation. In case you missed one of their shows, which is kind of likely as many were sold out, 2010 will be your chance to see some, well, live Girls performing. [...]

Sure, Christopher Owens's life story sounds like a bit much , what with the being raised in a cult, and having a millionaire savior and ending up in one of the most critically hailed and widely embraced bands of the year. Ever the suspicious type, The Village Voice decided to look into the Girls lead singer's claims and the verdict is that Owens is likely telling the truth . The paper found bits of scattered proof supporting Owens's account of his fantastic, out-there upbringing: "At the [...]

This track is for all you haters who think we aren't diverse enough 'round these KR parts. Well, lemme tell ya, we listen to a plethora of different genres within our little indie music world, so don't think we limit ourselves to a certain type. While, obviously, we have preferences (including differences among each writer,) we're not averse to trying out all sorts of tunes (as I've mentioned before, "screamo" is out of the question.) With that preface in mind, I present to you Me'shell Ndegeocello , whom I discovered today while perusing KCRW's always fantastic " [...]
It is Fall in the Bay Area, and like most other places on the West coast, that means it gets dark earlier in the evenings, stays dark longer in the mornings, and we are already seeing some monsoon-like rains that will be more and more frequent in the coming months. And although there is nothing wrong with throwing on The Morning Benders' excellent Bedroom Covers album or the Papercuts' fantastic You Can Have What You Want and pulling out a bottle of red wine and choosing to accept and deal with the weather (great albums for [...]

I arrived at the Moore Theatre last night just in time to get my Will Call tickets right when the doors opened, thankfully – since it was one of the rainiest days of the year in Seattle, which is saying a lot. I stood out in the lobby for a bit before they opened the doors for us to find our seats. I – along with a few other people – trickled into the old theater through the corridors myself in the box seats, the others spread around within the theater. A few guys came and sat in [...]

so i've just finished the third revision of my top 100 albums list — which to avoid confusion/arguments is a personal selection, not an attempt at a best of all time list — and to build some interest/excitement in the list beyond myself and the 1-2 other people that have traditionally cared about this i've decided to do a ten day countdown leading up to my number 1 album choice, vh1 best [whatever] of [decade] style. [100 - [...]
About four months ago, I put on a rather large geek-out party when all I cared to listen to was the plush and magnetic record from Grizzly Bear , Veckatimest . (Solved the issue on the pronunciation shortly thereafter, btw: veck-uh-tim-est ). The record was a springtime one, and emitted a smudgy sunshine gleam ( "Cheerleader", for example), but now that it's autumn and the cold has settled in, the off-kilter indoor coziness of it sounds just as engrossing as ever. Regular listens [...]

Hurley and Warner Bros. Records will release The Drifter , surfer Rob Machado's much-anticipated autobiographical movie, this fall. The film will have limited theatrical screenings across the country and will also be released on DVD. Directed by Poor Specimen's Taylor Steele this is a personal journey as much as it is a showcase of some of the world's most flawless waves. The Drifter starts in Bali , where Machado is looking for life's deeper meaning. That surf trip ends up taking him on a soul-searching journey where he eventually finds himself in Indonesia 's outermost reaches with [...]

By Tyler Fassnacht Having seen Built to Spill twice before (once over the summer at the Outside Lands Fest and once a couple years back at the Barrymore ), I knew what to expect: a really good show. Luckily for Madison, BTS didn't disappoint. The opening act, Disco Doom , came out around 20 minutes after the scheduled starting, which might have set me up to not fully get into these guys. The band was solid and they played music that was similar to BTS in some aspects. [...]

Berkeley's The Morning Benders' debut album, Talking Through Tin Cans , was released on the 6th of May, 2008 on +1 Records to some to some pretty positive responses. The light and creative tunes won the hearts of those who enjoyed fun indie pop without the gimmicks. The Morning Benders also received praise from all corners of the media, including being named the top album in iTunes' Alt/Rock Indie Spotlight Best of 2008 feature. As of now, they have been hibernating and tirelessly writing and recording their follow-up record, Big Echo , [...]
