![[new] Dr. Dog – Shadow People](http://cache.elbo.ws/posts/2323012_lg.jpg)
Hot damn! We got brand new Dr. Dog and it's hot and delicious! It's called "Shadow People" and it will be on their new album : Shame, Shame. The album is set for a release on April 6th. It's their debut album for Anti-Records . This is their fifth album! "Shadow People" is an excellent song constructed around a pretty stellar melody. The vocals are full of emotion and honesty. The band sounds as tight as ever, playing one of their best songs yet. It is certainly one of my favorite songs from the boys [...]

All the diehard New Order fans who have spent the last several years in a state of constant candlelight vigil awaiting another album (advice: Don't hold your breath) were given a new reason to get up in the morning when New Order frontman Bernard Sumner debuted his new band, Bad Lieutenant , who released their debut album, Never Cry Another Tear , last October. Those faithful followers - not to mention the rest of the world at large - must have done a double take upon first hearing, as the album leaves the electro-dance New Order sound behind [...]

Robinson Crusoe with dog and music (1913) The following is an account of a middle-aged male who lived twenty-eight years all alone on an un-inhabited island. Found next to his skeletal remains was a smashed up music device that was still playing a song in the sand. The mix between the force of sun and the anxiety that comes with desolate isolation tell me it must already be past noon. The waves pull inward, everything does here, and instinct and hunger drag [...]
I don't remember ever yearning for a CD as much as I yearn for Banda NEXT's debut album. I first caught wind of them as I was reading about the Luanda Smooth and Rave art festival in Bordeaux, France in October of last year. I have been searching for any sort of info and music from them ever since. This morning however I wake up to a gem of an email – blog reader Cristina Galhardo sends me a YouTube link of a recent video of theirs featuring a song called Desert Blue Sky, which I'm guessing is [...]

I'm possibly this site's least athletically inclined contributor (my physique has been described as Snoop-esque") but even I'll be getting together with the guys, a case of beer and all the food that's fit to eat tonight to cheer on a bunch of people attempting to move a ball from one side of a field to the other despite the best efforts of another bunch of people. That said, the pre-game festivities are a few hours away and I'm nowhere near interested enough in this "foot ball" to start caring about it first thing in the morning. Enter the good [...]

Photo by Mark Coatsworth Interview by Cosmo Lee Tomas Lindberg needs little introduction. Former vocalist for At the Gates, current vocalist for Disfear, with a slew of bands and projects in between, he has branded his gritty growl on some of metal's finest moments. In 2008, At the Gates undertook a triumphant, one-time reunion tour. On February 22 in Europe and April 6 in the US, Earache will release The Flames of the End , a 3-disc At the Gates DVD [...]
Smithsonian Folkways Recordings is the nonprofit record label of the Smithsonian Institution, the national museum of the United States. From its founding in 1948, Folkways has sought to record and document the entire world of sound. Topics have included traditional, ethnic, and contemporary music from around the world; poetry, spoken word, and instructional recordings in numerous languages; and documentary recordings of individuals, communities, current events, and natural sounds. Upon acquiring Folkways Recordings in 1987, the Smithsonian Institution Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage agreed that virtually all of the label's 2,168 titles would remain "in print" forever — a [...]
![Westfold: Westfold EP [Album Review]](http://cache.elbo.ws/posts/2313147_lg.jpg)
The boys of Westfold have outdone themselves yet again, this time on their third EP. In Westfold , the band takes the raw elements from their first release, No Frills Catalyst , and smash it against the proverbial high tower of obscurity that was their second release, Morning Commute . Portland's rising stars had no reason to take unnecessary risks; instead they merely master their craft and up production value a bit on what can only be considered their finest work to date. [...]
It's been about two years since Yeasayer released their impressive debut All Hour Cymbals , which tied psych and folk together and then threw in a sitar as well as some gospel sensibilities along the way. Basically, it was not worth categorising but broad in reach and in its musical arrangements. The band have an ability to transcend your average gig experience too (see their Take Away Show for one example) and are at their most uplifting when it's late and everyone's looking to kick the night off. It is no surprise that [...]
This morning my dog threw up directly in front of all the schoolchildren waiting for their bus. They laughed at me. At the time, I was listening to a new song via Pop Tarts Suck Toasted. It was by a band called Man & Dog. Ironic eh?However, unlike my early morning experience, the song is an absolute gem. Titled Ghosts it comes from a five track EP called Another State By Dawn. The band are a four

I thought finding out you could play Farkle on the Internet sounded the death knell for my ability to accomplish anything. Then today I found a free Java-based website where you can play Settlers of Catan online against people around the world. Needless to say, that revelation - coupled with a hangover from massive drinking exhibiion last night - has left me utterly incapable of focusing on a task any larger than my laptop's monitor. I'm not normally one to find myself in a comatose state following a night of partying. Usually I'm awake and good to go, [...]

by Klaus Kinski A few months ago I was wilting my life away at work listening to my M83 Pandora channel when a song the site randomly selected yanked me from my zombified, mouth-breathing state. It sounded like a bizarre mixture of Vangelis , Kitarro , Spandau Ballet , and Mogwai . Turns out, the artist was Ulrich Schnauss and the song was Goodbye . I didn't know [...]
It couldn't be a hotly tipped new act without some sort of web-related story to send PR chiefs foaming at the mouth. Comprised of Swedish sisters Johanna and Klara Söderberg – 19 and 17 years old respectively - harmonic folk duo First Aid Kit headed to woodlands with a guitar and video camera after seeing Fleet Foxes live. There they recorded a fine, haunting version of the Seattle band's 'Tiger Mountain Peasant Song'. One upload to YouTube later and the Söderberg sisters find themselves with more than one million admirers of whom they can impress on [...]

Joseph Smith was either a prophet of God or a charlatan. He was considered both a man chosen by Jehovah as a modern-day oracle who would lead humanity back to the One True Church and bring about Gods Kingdom on earth, and a philandering con man who abused the trust of his gullible followers by taking a second-rate novel and using it as the basis for his cult of personality. He was a charismatic leader who upon receiving his first Revelation in 1832, managed to spread a new brand of Christianity around the world in just a few short years. [...]

This list could go hundreds, thousands deep and it would still only touch the surface, so you know how much a struggle it was for me to cut it down to just 50. Ranking art is always a bit of a silly process, and it's even more here, when every single song is brilliant. So don't take the order too seriously. The real point of this is to give people a chance to hear the things that I simply couldn't live without, the songs that make my whole world go around – and to hopefully [...]
Christian metalcore act Oh, Sleeper have posted the new video from their Solid State Records album, Son of the Morning .
After seven years of supposed break ups, rumoured releases, and generally lying low, Massive Attack released their fifth studio album, and after fearing the worst, State can confirm it's an early runner for album of the year. There's collaborations with Damon Albarn (whose home studio they also recorded in), Martina Topley Bird, Guy Garvey and, of course, Horace Andy. It's called Heligoland and it's a beautiful, surprisingly simple record that can sit happily alongside any of the output from one of the most important bands of the last two decades. Robert del Naja, [...]
:: If you didn't get your hands on the Merge 20th anniversary box set when it was first issued, you've got a chance to grab it now . :: Looks like Todd P is too cool for SXSW this year. Instead, he's having a festival in Mexico - yeah, Mexico! - with Dan Deacon , No Age and Fucked Up , among others. :: America might be getting Spotify soon . :: Shockingly, T-Bone Burnett was nominated for an Oscar . [...]

In the past couple of years, Todd P . has staged a balls to the wall, all day affair on E. 6th St in Austin for SX, but this year, things are a bit different. Todd P. is bringing SXSW to Monterrey, Mexico. Seriously. Like, there's going to be buses going from Austin to Monterey. Crazy. The best part is that Denver's own, Rhinoceropolis will be helping curate the efforts. Thanks for the heads up, Donewaiting ! From Todd P. : ==BIG NEWS!== It [...]
