Vampire Weekend is back, everybody! They're going to be releasing the first big album of the new decade, Contra , on January 12, but for now they're teasing the eager fans with singles. We first heard the softer side with "Horchata," a pretty good little song . And now we have the faster-paced "Cousins." And awww the video is adorable! It's just like, these happy white kids from New England in a colorful back alley being silly! Stuff White People Like for sure (that reference is still hip, right?). While [...]

Today Lee and I learned a lot about ourselves during the radio show, like how Lee's related to the late singer of Morphine, and how I'm just awesome in general. Even though we all knew that already. But anyway, this week will mark the one year birthday of Knox Road, so we made sure to put on a crazy, sexy party during the show. Or did we? I don't know, man, I guess you'll just have to listen and find out. Knox Road Radio 11.13.09 [MP3] (Available until next Sunday's show) 01| WHY? [...]

Filed under: News , Exclusive , Holy Hell , Canada Toronto indie troupe Meligrove Band have cancelled the last four dates of their tour with the Most Serene Republic after drummer Darcy Rego and new guitarist Brian O'Reilly contracted the swine flu last weekend. "By the time we were loading the van, [Darcy] was pale and awful," bassist Mike Small tells Spinner. "[The following afternoon] I got a text from Brian saying he'd been hit and was paralyzed in bed." Pat Graham Yeah, I know that I probably keep closer track of British bands than some (but certainly not as much as others), but I still get confused as to who's who sometimes. Particularly when it comes to outfits comprised of skinny, shaggy-looking lads wielding guitars and perhaps scowls, and whose names are some combination of the definite article and a random noun, sometimes pluralized. The Rifles ? They're the ones who're trying to channel The Jam (and doing a pretty good job of it). The Rakes ? They're [...]

Over the past week or so, we've gotten two really strange videos: Grizzly Bear's "Ready, Able," and The Most Serene Republic's "Heavens to Purgatory." Well, Themselves must of seen those two videos and were all "screw that noise" and went to work on the weirdest video (featuring cupcakes) EVER. Like, I can't even explain what goes on, or the techniques used to accomplish what the band does here. It's this really odd combination of clay and real people and mouths chewing cupcakes, and it's freaky. But at least they look tasty! [...]
From the album ...And The Ever Expanding Universe and maybe one of my favorite songs this year.

So um, Jamie's decision to give Grizzly Bear the honors of creepiest video of '09 was short-lived. The Most Serene Republic just set off an entirely different form of creepy on their new video for "Heavens To Purgatory." Strewn body parts, instruments, and old-school clothing in a Victorian dollhouse setting, what more could we ask for from Adrian Jewett and the hyper-active Canadians? (P.S. I really like it.) The Most Serene Republic have a new video for "Heavens To Purgatory , " a tune off their latest release, ...And The Ever Expanding Universe , out via Arts & Craft . Check it out below, along with a video interview of when the band stopped by Threadless , while in Chicago this September. [VIDEO] The Most Serene Republic - Heavens To Purgatory [...]
The Most Serene Republic get all chopped up in the video for their bittersweet "Heavens to Purgatory," a song apparently about how you can cut someone's arms off an put them on your mantle and they will clap for you. Pretty weird video, but it's technically impressive. Most Serene Republic's ...And the Ever-Expanding Universe is out now via Arts & Crafts. [ Pitchfork ]
