"We don't walk! We don't sit! We don't stand! We fly!" This trio hails from Australia, a world of it's own for me ever since I stopped writing to my penpal in Melbourne. Since then, the word coming from that overgrown South Pacific island has been close to mum, but every now and again I'll stumble onto something from Australia that has me wonder why the hell I don't hear about bands from that countrinent more often. The Paper Scissors bring about a brand of rock that has me singing, loudly and badly, along, [...]
They don't really have anything in common aesthetically or musically, but I feel like Mum is really spiritually akin to ABBA. Witnessing and listening to the outfit's carefree, sunny ways as they busk "If I Were a Fish" and "The Smell of Today Is Sweet Like Breastmilk in the Wind" on the streets of Paris, I feel like Agnetha, Bjorn, Benny, and Anni-Frid would really dig the style of their fellow Scandinavians. Just listen to all of those la's! [ La Blogotheque ]
This is the video for Vampire Weekend 's new single 'Cousins'. It turns out that this was just a 'teaser' or 'taster' for their new album, Contra, which is a shame as it's far more interesting than this. When that familiar guitar figure kicks in at the 45 second mark we felt a strange sense of sadness and disappointment, like when Bambi's mum died. The video is much more interesting, what with all the camera work and face-changing technology (well, they use masks, which is probably the least technological aspect about the [...]
Liborio Molina, the Black Eyed Peas manager, has had all charges against him dropped for allegedly punching blogger Perez Hilton in the face this summer . Molina agreed to write a letter of apology to Hilton, agreed to not contact him, and can't carry weapons for 12 months as part of the agreement. Hilton has remained uncharacteristically mum on the whole thing since it happened. [ Daily Swarm ]
I only met Mark Mulcahy once. It was on the night that Mark and Ken played the North Star with The Mountain Goats who were on tour with Bowerbirds. This is the first night that I was lucky enough to have met my friend Ken Maiuri (an amazing musician and person, bar none , as they say). This was also the night that I received the most amazing hug in the World from John Darnielle, who come to think of it: should go down in history as a man with a Gift of Hug. It was a magical night. The real horrorshow gang has become two people, with myself now part of this rad rad blog. I am lewi, friend of nathan, and tonight matthew, I'm going to blog some shit that blows my mind. So I'll start with a guy who may of already been blogged quite a bit, however he's actually killing it right now. My mum said I'm to young to be in love, but after listening to Gold Panda , I heartily disagree. For lovers of; Prefuse 73, Koushik, and Four Tet, Gold Panda [...]

I grew up with distant Grandparents. Not emotionally - they were wonderful when we had a chance to see them - but physically. Our family was nomadic for much of the 70's, and our wanderings took us far from my parents' parents. What this meant is that my sister and I saw our grandparents a couple of times a year at best. I loved seeing them. My sister and I flew up to northern Ontario for a couple of weeks every summer. Those were the best of times - long northern summer days in the woods with my cousins and [...]

Unlike when "Bad Romance" leaked in early October, Lady Gaga has remained surprisingly mum on The Fame Monster making its way online over the weekend. A few sites, such as the newly re-opened Music Is The Heart Of Our Soul , have posted the eight-song release in its entirety. Others, such as That Grape Juice , played it safe and simply posted a YouTube vid of snippets. Check out the clips below! To these ears, the Ace Of Base throwback "Alejandro" is the top [...]

We weren't expecting great things from our selections last week, so, as you will see from this week's picks, we're going all out for the chart glory this week. Amerie was our most bankable bet and she was nowhere, Joe Goddard 's album probably sold about 11 copies and the Girls single missed the top 75 too. We're trying not to be too despondent, but it's difficult. BUY THIS FOR YOUR MUM THIS CHRISTMAS Echo by Leona Lewis [...]
Sad news everyone. You know the guy who spouts that insufferable "Say hi to your Mum for me" outro? That really short guy who's kinda annoying and not really that funny? You know, the same guy who parlayed a semi-successful comedy career into a one man media empire. The guy who interviews Pink a lot. Yeah him! He's going to stop harassing your TV set every Sunday after a decade of lukewarm comedy, awkward laughs and stilted interviews. At this stage, we don't know whether this is a good thing... As a [...]

I recently had a chat with Tim Derricourt of Dappled Cities. We talked 'Zounds', Chihuahuas, Beyonce and entertaining small children... Well Tim - it's no doubt that you guys have had a stellar year, with the release of your third album 'Zounds', two AIR nominations and an ARIA nomination for Best Independent Release – how are you feeling? Pretty ecstatic! Overwhelmed at all? I guess so! [...]

photos by Vincent Cornelli FlavorPill : So you don't have any plans to move Stateside? Olof Arnalds : Not now. Maybe in a few years it would be great. I have a son who's one and a half years old, and there's so much life quality in Iceland when it comes to having children because it's so safe. It's such a good environment for kids to have the freedom to play. I have a big [...]

Caveat: No Set List or Photo's (sorry, lazieness) Mum playing the in US? A rare occurrence indeed. Not often does this eclectic Icelandic collective grace our humble shores. Thus, after a brief west coast stint, the group will retire to more familiar terrain, namely Malmo, Arhus, (insert unusual Scandinavian city) etc. Prior to the show, I [...]
Who here has heard of Múm ? Clearly many Portlanders, as evidenced by the packed Aladdin Theater Wednesday night. And for good reason. Mum's show at the Aladdin marked a rare live performance of their native Iceland (and Europe). Formed in 1997, Mum hasn't stopped composing new and inspiring psychedelic, electronic, funky, unusual, special-effects tunes since. Simply put, they are a group of born musicians with innate capabilities to compose. They have fun experimenting with all possible sounds traditional instruments can possibly utter, as well as unconventional, often times, custom-made instruments. All mashed [...]
Sigh. So some motherless goat of a woman decides to trick her infant child into believing he got an XBox 360 as a gift when really it's just clothes. But she doesn't stop there and goes overboard. Way overboard. One has to wonder, why does the kid look like a ghetto Super Saiyan ? If the kid looked in the mirror the day he got that do and didn't realize his mum hated him then, he surely knows now. And that is not a good thing because, although he's still young and easily [...]
