Crave's got some office issues, and they're going to be conducting interviews at the local taco stand for the time being, hence the clever title, Taco The Town. "Today we'll be talking to hip hop producer Exile and his latest project, Chicago MC Adad . Exile is best known for producing tracks for artists ranging and Mobb Deep and Ghostface to Jurassic 5 and Blu . [...]
Here we have the peculiar and awesome spectacle of a band that normally can't sell out even the Mercury Lounge playing to an audience of tens of thousands on national television. Hot Snakes and ... Continue reading "Jimmy Fallon Had Obits on His Show Last Night" >

Friday! Quick-hit thoughts of the week! QUICK-HIT THOUGHTS OF THE WEEK! 1. Whatever Brains - Gross Urge (mp3) ( buy ) BAM! Whatever Brains ( myspace ) is a Raleigh, North Carolina band called WHATEVER BRAINS. That automatically qualifies them to be AWESOME, but this song - along with a lot of the rest of their Trim-Jeans and/or Gross Urge Plus Ten CD-R - qualifies them to be DOUBLE AWESOME. I'm more comfortable thinking of them as traditional lo-fi punk than as [...]

The breton buckwheat cake recipe featured today on eating/sf is a new favorite of ours. Thanks to the buckwheat, it is dense, rustic and has a slight, but noticeable, hint of alcohol courtesy of the rum. More, it's buttery and aromatic thanks to the cinnamon. The addition of sea salt gives it a nice little tang that makes it quite different from the typical sweet dessert. That is why it is a great dessert for adding toppings (such as maple syrup and/or yogurt or whipped cream). For those reasons, The National's sophomore album, Sad Songs [...]
Record label Absolutely Kosher has announced the first official music video off of Chris Garneau's latest album El Radio. The single "Fireflies" has just been released to the public in Europe and North America. A crew of only five people over the course of five days, traveled hundreds of miles from Sequoia National Park, to Yosemite, to Death Valley and everywhere in between, filming this hybrid music video-action/adventure film with only a few, limited resources. Shooting mostly guerrilla style and capturing elements at the spur of the moment along the whole route, Garneau was [...]

Paste lists the best debut novels of the decade. Paste interviews David Rawlings about his debut solo album, A Friend of a Friend . Paste: You cover some songs on this record—including a medley of "Method Acting" by Bright Eyes and "Cortez the Killer" by Neil Young. How did that come to be? Rawlings: A couple years ago, at the end of '07, Conor [Oberst] called me and asked me if [...]

The Bloodsugars stellar debut album, I Can't Go On, I'll Go On was released this week on Engine Room Recordings. After their short Midwest tour last week, including a great show in Cincinnati, singer/guitarist Jason Rabinowitz was able to take some some time to answer some questions about the creative process and theme of the new album, some of their new favorite bands and the their new-found love for Bobby McFerrin. Atlas and the Anchor: My favorite song on I Can't Go [...]
Death Cab For Cutie forsangeren Ben Gibbards hyggeprojekt The Postal Service rendte med 2. pladsen, blandt andet foran to [...]

I only met Mark Mulcahy once. It was on the night that Mark and Ken played the North Star with The Mountain Goats who were on tour with Bowerbirds. This is the first night that I was lucky enough to have met my friend Ken Maiuri (an amazing musician and person, bar none , as they say). This was also the night that I received the most amazing hug in the World from John Darnielle, who come to think of it: should go down in history as a man with a Gift of Hug. It was a magical night. Check out this randomly selected rugby fan's one in a million shot off the crossbar for a £250,000 prize. After making the absurdly unlikely kick in his socks during halftime at the Saracens/South Africa game at Wembley this week, Stuart Tinner is a British national hero.

Sparrow and the Workshop are one these bands who you might find hard to pinpoint exactly what you like about them, but you like them anyway. They remind me of The National, not because they sound anything like them, but just because they're great without doing anything obviously radical or ...

Luck Of The Irish (Live) - John Lennon (from the Anthology set which, BTW is totally awesome and an essential purchase for any serious Lennon fan) Perhaps this will be the thing to finally convince people that the lack of video replay in the game is a relic of past ages and a massive dis-service to the players who invest years of their lives in the game, and the supporters who live and die with their national team. Sure, France had a legitimate shout for a penalty a few minutes earlier. [...]

At the tour's request, we did not photograph the Swell Season. The photos are of the opening act Doveman. Since seeing the Swell Season 's fantastic performance at Berklee Performance Center, I've told several friends that I haven't seen "Once," the film that launched the duo of Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová and their real-life romance. Each time, I get the same reaction: my friend puts a hand to her chest and a hand on my arm, looks me straight in the eye and says, "You must see 'Once.' It's [...]
