It's time once again to highlight some the hip, indie music that soundtracks ads from cars, beers, phones, to climate change (you didn't think the indie rock in commercials trend was going away, did you?). So for all you Hulu / DVR watchers that are missing out on all the joys of live television, here's a few of the best songs that creative departments and ad agencies are harvesting for mass consumption. MP3s and link to video included. Cadillac: Watch Commercial I'd be willing to venture a guess that this is the most played [...]

photos by Chris La Putt Girls in stripes at the Nicole Atkins show - m4w - 28 (TriBeCa) You were standing with a group of friends in front of me for most of the show tonight. You had on a striped shirt, jeans, and rain boots. We first made eye contact at the bar before the show started and I thought you were really cute. Anyway, I couldn't tell if you were checking me out during the show but [...]

Oklahoma's Evangelicals had one of our favorite LPs last year in 'The Evening Descends,' so with that we asked front man Josh Jones to DJ our Friday Ten this week. The bar was set pretty high last week with Nicole Atkins' DJ turn, but Josh has come through with flying colors. Rather inspired and diverse colors, I might add: "On our way to Kansas City from Denver earlier this evening, and while dj'ing from the passenger seat, I momentarily fell asleep and dreamt that it was me [...]

Recommended Show: FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 13, 2009 PTERODACTYL, CHILD BITE, HERMIT THRUSHES, & FIASCO @ DEATH BY AUDIO 49 South 2nd Street Brooklyn, NY 11211 $TBA, 8PM Fiasco don't play many shows in the City since starting college, but the trio do try to make it back from time to time. Plus, teamed up with Hermit Thrushes, Child Bite, and Pterodactyl, it should be an amazing lineup. The cost of the show is still a big question mark, but it's a Showpaper benefit, so it's probably fairly cheap (and totally worthwhile). [...]

(Editor's note: today's interview comes to us with permission from Cleveland Bachelor , where the Q&A was originally posted. Yesterday was one of those work days that you dread, meeting after meeting after meeting. From the moment I got to work until nearly 4 PM, I was shuffling from one room to another, trading brain cells for increased self-loathing every additional minute. Mere seconds after finally sitting down in my chair back in my dank big boy office, the alarm on my phone went off. I looked at it, wondering what it was I was reminding myself [...]
...and so brings to a close our very first Blog Takeover Week. We'd like to thank Nicole Atkins from the bottom of our Jersey-loving hearts for her time and contributions during the week, for locking up and shutting off the lights to the office each night—and for restocking the liquor cabinet. How about that shit? We'll see all of you at The Rock and Roll Hotel tonight when she and The Black Sea roll into town, right? 'Til then, Nicole's DJ'd the week's Final Ten from the road... [...]
I'm in Nashville right now, just played the Ryman Auditorium with our dear friends the Avett Brothers. Sang with some ghosts in the dressing room. The feeling of playing on that stage was something between complete humbleness and a supernatural elation. Anyways, today I met up with my friend Lisa from the band the Poconos and her boyfriend Quinn from the Gay Blades. We set out to do a little record shopping. We started talking about how when it's fun to go record shopping at your local, we do most of our record shopping on the road. [...]

Frank Yang If I'd managed to get to the El Mocambo on Sunday night in time to catch first act David Schultz & The Skyline , I think I could legitimately lay claim to have seen the longest bill - in character count, at least - of all time. But it didn't happen so I had to settle for just one of the longest in recent memory, thanks to Thao with The Get Down Stay Down and The Portland Cello Project . As the more insightful might have discerned, The Portland [...]
For the last 8 years that I've lived off and on in Asbury Park, my friends and I have always been like "when is this place gonna get a record shop?" There's art galleries, bars, dance studios, gay specialty stores, doggie ice cream parlors, yet no record shops. In order to buy a record you literally have to drive 30 minutes into Red Bank to Jack's (which is a great shop but a bit tough on the gas tank these days.) Finally our buddy Joe Koukas did something about it and opened up Holdfast Records on [...]

What would a week with Nicole Atkins on the blog be without a chance to see her kill it live and the opportunity to take home her Columbia Records debut? Well, that'd certainly be an incomplete week. Being the completists that we are however, you won't need to imagine that dire scenario because Nicole's hooked us up with a pair of tickets to her show at the Rock and Roll Hotel this Friday night as well as the aforementioned debut LP 'Neptune City' on glorious vinyl for one lucky winner. Nicole's spending the [...]

The Avett Brothers stormed Louisville with Nicole Atkins at The Palace on the night before Halloween and played to a packed house. First off, I love The Palace. It is an amazing theatre and to watch a show there is always a treat. The blue dusk paint ceiling with flickering lights surrounded by Greek statutes and ornate columns, is an eye-full enough, but then throw in a couple different elaborate backdrops and the stage is literally set for a great evening. Nicole Atkins opened playing with her relatively new backing band, The Black Sea. She [...]
As I've mentioned quite a few times in the past, I grew up not in DC but at the Jersey Shore, NJ. In a town called Neptune to be exact—in a tiny enclave of this tiny enclave called Shark River Hills. Just like our guest blogger all week, Nicole Atkins. And while we're huge fans of her here at TVD HQ, it's not because she's our hometown girl, but because she's making music that's head and shoulders above SO, so many these days. Find out yourself when she plays The [...]

By Ryan Matteson | Photos Ed Oliver Waking up this morning I wondered if the Avett Brothers ever have an off night. I've lost count of the number of times I've seen the band, but I have to say that they always manage to reach higher and deliver more than the previous time. Last night, in front of a sold out crowd at Madison's Barrymore Theatre , The Avett Brothers do what they always do - deliver. Big time. Here's our 9 favorite moments from last night's show [...]
