I'm with you, kids - let's celebrate the end of another week. Before we leave, though, let's do a quick recap: - We had more fun with Magnetic Fields covers . There's a whole slew of more fun coming this Sunday, when Part Five drops. - I dreamt of crack . which was whack, but it helped to remind me of The Moldy Peaches, which was whacker. It also reminded me to subtly plug my nascent dream blog , which was the whackest of all. - We saw Random [...]
No kids, Madonna hasn't invited vogueing, she just stole it from the underground. Watch this awesome documentary of the pioneers of this extraordinary dance style. Unbelivible scenes!

Nesta sábado o Killer on the Dancefloor toca no aniversário de 3 anos da Blush produções.

A couple of weeks ago, we went to New Orleans for a friend's wedding. We had a chance to see the World War II museum and the fancy new wing that Tom Hanks helped contribute with and the new theater much cooler than an Imax (it's in 4D!). The picture from above is taken from the museum, and before the trip, I had no idea there was a WWII museum. I guess Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg are teaming up again to retell the story of the US invading the Pacific during [...]

In the Book Notes series, authors create and discuss a music playlist that relates in some way to their recently published book. Blake Butler is the rare young writer who consistently and effectively challenges his readers. Scorch Atlas is a haunting collection of interconnected stories and vignettes, a dystopian work of genius. The book itself is a work of art. The internal pages are individually distressed, and the page edges and cover appear burnt and scarred, and the design complements the book's theme perfectly. Matt [...]

For the first time in months my Google calendar boasts no shows of note this weekend. Not to say that there aren't any good shows in town, just none that I've marked weeks in advance. On the bright side, however, that does free everyone up travel Oswald's Trail of Tears route this anniversary weekend. Personally I am thinking about visiting the empty tomb of Nick Beef. Anyhoo, keeping with yesterday's promise for more non locally-relevant music, I give you Computer Perfection. Comprised of former members of Detroit's Pas/Cal, the indie-rock vets perfectly mix 8-bit sounds with they psychedelic [...]

Let me be the first to wish all of our readers a very merry Thanksgiving holiday. While you're stuffing your gullet with turkey and dressing, we'll be here all holiday long providing you with the latest Chicago music news and reviews. Also, beginning in December, we'll start our best of the decade/best of the 2009 lists. So that'll be fun. This weekend, we're spotlighting tonight's Pixies' show, Peaches and Permanent Records Third Anniversary Bash at The Hideout. But before we get to our picks for top weekend shows, a reminder: [...]

Interview with Rhymesayers artist Toki Wright – recorded live at The Metro in Chicago, Illinois on November 18 th , 2009. The Fresh Air Tour featuring Brother Ali, Evidence, Toki Wright and BK-One. Being a fan of hip-hop for some time now I have seen quite a few hip-hop shows and have met quite a few artists. I can't enough how true and respectful and giving the artists on the Fresh Air Tour are. This was easily one of the best hip-hop shows I have seen in my life. A total party from start to [...]
As I mentioned earlier this year, it seems that as a result of the recent times, Brooklyn, New York has become the center of the world for indie rock aficionados. Sure, maybe the Dodgers will never move back east, but Brooklyn has definitely developed into something much larger than their former baseball team could ever compare to. Singer/songwriter Tim Williams certainly feels right at home and well within the walls and camaraderie of Brooklyn. While literally clicking alive on the heels of his third full-length album , Careful Love , Williams channels his personal darkest hours of reconstructive [...]
Nobody can argue against the almighty power of the mixtape, especially after a year like 2009. We have seen artists like Wale, Drake, and Kid Cudi rise from underground hip-hop to the main stage of radio, MTV and iTunes. As purveyors and champions of the mixtape, we here at BDN strive to filter the best of the best to you the reader. Here are some late season goodies that have been playing around the office the last few weeks. First up is the much anticipated Mixtape Volume 4 by Hood Internet . [...]
If you like punk, and you live in L.A., Headline Records is the place to go to. When I have friends from out of town, I make a point to drive down to Melrose. Jean-Luc has seen the scene grow from an international standpoint. And if you have a chance, listen to him talk. Like with Curtis from TAANG, when I'm in Headline, I'm just a student in this punk game. 1. When did you start Headline Records, and what gave you the idea [...]
I'm copying this verbatim from a press release I just got from Pierce Freelon of The Beast. I wish they'd had cool events like this when I was in school! HIP-HOP/JAZZ QUARTET THE BEAST PARTNERS WITH NCJRO TO GIVE MUSIC EDUCATION SEMINARS AT TRIANGLE HIGH SCHOOLS The Beast will deliver jazz education workshops at Durham School of the Arts and Chapel Hill High School this semester. [...]
Micachu and the Shapes are the latest hot indie band to end up soundtracking a Crayola commercial, as their "Golden Phone" has been turned into music kids can melt crayons to. It seems crazy to me, since I am 64, that normal crayons stopped being enough for kids, and they need to be involved in the crayon making process. These kids have no idea how hard we had it back in the '40s; only eight colors, and we liked what he had. We never even dreamed of melting crayons, because of the Great War, and all. [ Stereogum ]

Jasmine Solano - "Coco Puff" Jasmine Solano - "That's Not It" "..Punanny, Electric" that is, NYC party promoting connoisseur, poly-rhythmic femcee, phenomenal, crazy dope DJ, producer of illyness - Jasmine Solano. Her resume makes you want to sign up for the next Boston marathon, if only to not feel like the fckin slacker you can be. *** AS: Of these few characters, which do you feel best represent an intelligent, fly, no nonsense, fun loving, down-ass, lady; Cat Woman, Olive Oyl, Wonder Woman, Storm or Betty Boop? Why? [...]
We may have thought, yesterday, that the now three-way Fiery Furnaces-Radiohead-Beck feud instigated by the Furnaces' Matt Friedberger was over. Instead of whining via publicist or ignoring Friedberger's random attack, Beck responded by offering a fairly awesome free track called (what else?) "Harry Partch." All seemed right in the world: Radiohead had kept its silent dignity, Friedberger had been thoroughly PWNED and Beck had made sure the kids at least got something out of the media circus. But Friedberger, we've learned, just doesn't know how to gracefully accept defeat . He's [...]
Notes upon listening to Yo Gabba Gabba: Music Is . . . Awesome five times in the past two days: - I had no idea what Yo Gabba Gabba was until the promo copy arrived in my mailbox on Wednesday. My cluelessness is due to the fact that (a) pretty much all my TV viewing nowadays is Hulu -based, (b) I don't have kids, and (c) I don't do drugs. However, after looking at the album cover and doing some quick internet researching - which mainly consisted of this article from Slate [...]
![[New] Curren$y- Audio Dope](http://cache.elbo.ws/posts/2139154_lg.jpg)
I have been lacking on my Curren$y game. I have a couple songs and the whole mixtape with Wiz Khalifa but I guess I kind of threw him to the side, no reason really. I usually look more into artists but he probably came in when I was swamped and that is when I get super lazy. But he has always been on my radar and Audio Dope shows the kids skills. This is something I could definitely go on a nice ride to..if you know what I mean. Curren$y- Audio Dope [...]

Words: Jodi Root | Photo: Clayton Huack Maps and Atlases served as the perfect bait to lure me to my most (and quite frankly, only) anticipated field trip into Chicago's Lincoln Park – the city's newest venue, Lincoln Hall . While Maps & Atlases put on an incredible, entertaining set– thanks to Muzzle of Bees contributing Champaign writer Jon Stone, we already knew that . Instead of repeating his previous praise, I'd like instead to focus on the highlights (and there are many) [...]

Colorado's Monolith Festival is in trouble. Organizers of the three-year-old event, plagued the past two years by fractious Rocky Mountain weather, told fans in an e-mail "the future of the festival is very grim," and that they have "been unable to secure any options" that dig the fest out of its financial hole. Included was a plea for potential buyers/investors. [Full text of the letter after the jump.] Meanwhile, Bonnaroo announced its ninth annual event will be held June 10-13, 2010, near Manchester, Tenn. Tickets go on sale at noon Nov. 27. Meanwhile, only 148 days [...]

Hold tight for this Friday's first edition of Radiostation at Zappa, Antwerp! With Zombie Disco Squad , Benny Page and Trolley Snatcha , they managed to present a genre-crossing quality line up. ZOMBIE DISCO SQUAD has been featured on these pages a couple of times before. With releases on Dirtybird, Made To Play and Sound Pellegrino, 2009 was a ridiculously good year for these guys! Their combination of tropical percussion and tech house has really set a trend. Idiotproof - Gorilla (Zombie Disco Squad "Add Acapella Here" [...]
