The Austin, Texas band throws some vocals and visuals into the mix on its latest EP. The Octopus Project made its name in recent years with stomping, Theremin-spiked instrumentals and a worldwide touring schedule. The band's five-song Golden Beds EP gleefully throws some visuals and vocals into the mix. While there's plenty of the former, there's not quite enough of the latter. The EP includes seven videos, six for songs not on the audio portion of the CD. Opener "Wet Gold" is the only song on the EP that has a...

DOWNLOAD: Voxtrot - Trepanation Party (MP3) The real story here is that Voxtrot still exists! Or at least they did for one night at the Mohawk in Austin on Saturday (11/7). It was one of a few Fun Fun Fun Fest afterparties and the Octopus Project was also on the bill. They're now a four piece (Jared left the band), and the little I caught of their set (I got there late) brought me right back to the pre-backlash stage of the [...]

We couldn't be more excited to know that we will be able to spend the weekend soaking up the sights and sounds of Fun Fun Fun Fest at Waterloo Park. Tickets are still available, the weather is going to be perfect, and this might be the best lineup in the festival's brief history. We will have more coverage after the smoke clears, but for now here are our band picks for each day, along with info on a few after parties. The full festival schedule is here . Mr Curiosity picks: Saturday: [...]

Date 11/7/09 Location Mohawk Doors 900p Tickets $11 from Frontgate Fun Fest aftershows are pretty slim pickins this year, but Saturday night at Mohawk has a nice little lineup of big name local talent. Athen's Twin Tigers aren't playing the actual Festival in the park, but are making an appearance at one of the official Afterparties on Saturday night, and I highly recommend you make a stop to see the Tigers at work. The band has a full length recording Grey Waves, set for release in early 2010 and it's already secured a spot as one of my favorite releases for the year. Shoegazey, soft-punk, whatever you want to call it, it rocks. Twin Tigers @ Mohawk Sat night with Voxtrot, Octopus Project, The Coathangers, Jazzus Lizard (Jesus [...]

It's super-cute to peruse decade-end lists and pretend to be enthusiastic about true artists like Arcade Fire, timeless music like the Strokes, and inescapable culturlol trends like dubstep or "hypnagogic" pop. We remember the decade a little differently-not with poptimist lenses or with whatever beer goggles make you think Kid A isn't boring, but with cold, hard, honest eyes that see the last 10 years as an irredeemable shitpile that makes disco's final cokefarts look like Woodstock. Here's a quick rundown, in case you forgot: [...]
On the heels of a new EP and recent North American tour, Austin group The Octopus Project are returning to the studio to record their next full-length. To tide fans over in the meantime, the band's first two albums have been reissued on vinyl and are available in stores now. The band's haunting debut, [...]

To add to the already incredible lineup, the afterparties have just been announced, and as one would suspect, only add the anticipation. This is an ever changing and (hopefully) expanding list of some of the songs I have mentioned before in this blog or simply stuff I have found somewhere on the web that I find interesting, but have no time to write about. All files have been found somewhere in cyberspace (and NONE of them have uploaded by me, so I cannot help you with any requests you might have - just keep returning and something new might pop up), so they will be available until the artists, record labels, fans, whatever decide to remove them. Thanks to a few readers, [...]

Ah, we're super excited! Sophie's mom, aka our dear Kim, is in the hospital as I type this pushing out what's soon to be the cutest babe of the year (pictured above). I'm super bummed that I can't be around to show some physical excitement, but at least for now I'm hoping that a collection of tunes for the tot to rock the cradle to will suffice. Sophie, bump this! And to our way loved and soon-to-be born Lucie Beatrice Harlow Glover, happy birthday lil' friend. Try and hold out a few months before getting a facebook. here's [...]

Sunday, September 27, 2009 Hello friends. This week I've got a new album from Austin's Monument To No One, plus a few notes on musical coincidences (i.e. a new band I'm excited about), how to cut through all the ACL bullshit (hello Leatherbag), some reissues (horray Octopus Project), and the top way to not get good press (sorry Deaf Ears). Let's get this show on the road: Monument To No One - Self Titled MTNO's debut LP captures the brazen guitar riffs and [...]
This is the part where we normally give readers a bold retrospective on a band's career, perhaps some background on the record and why it does or does not entirely suck before cementing our arguments with wit and cunning lingo. But there is no reason to establish The Beatles . The Fab Four's cultural impact during every transition in genre and appearance has been ogled (and now Google'd) tenfold. Each studio release bears its own signature, even on remasters decades later, and the soundtrack to the 1968 acid trip of an animated film, Yellow Submarine , is no [...]

![[MP3] The Golden Filter: "Thunderbird"](http://cache.elbo.ws/posts/2002532_lg.jpg)
Professional remixers, The Golden Filter, like to pen original material from time to time! And it's usually pretty good! They released "Solid Gold" last year, and it was pretty much awesome. Now we have "Thunderbird," and it's another good one. The song refers to the legendary Native American creature that was all kinds of powerful and awesome. The single will be off the Thunderbird 123 November 16 on Dummy. Want incentive to buy it? The B-side is a cover of The White Stripes' "The Hardest Button To Button." Great things.
