It's been a nice year for Mastodon . The band's fourth LP, Crack the Skye , received oodles of great reviews from music sources all over the globe, including the one that matters most . They broke just about every "Top __" list for best albums of 2009 ( including you know whose ), and to top it all off, fans packed the house at each and every one of their tour stops. So what now? Some more touring across America sounds good - at least to the band. [...]

Frank Yang If I'm being totally honest, I wasn't that excited for last night's Magnetic Fields show at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre. After all, their last few records didn't especially bowl me over and I was feeling somewhat pessimistic about what to expect from a performer who's very much on record as being disdainful of the entire phenomenon of live performance. I had seen them before at their last visit to Toronto in July 2004 and while my memories of that show are fond, I couldn't say it was an especially [...]
![And Oh, So Slowly He Turned: By Some Godforsaken Lake Up North [Album Review]](http://cache.elbo.ws/posts/2321820_lg.jpg)
Kristian Svensson crafts some pretty chill pop music, encompassing a space between the drone-heavy, space-friendly reverb and the upbeat-yet-emotional electronic. His latest work as And Oh, So Slowly He Turned is By Some Godforsaken Lake Up North . Packed with lovable lo-fi pop songs (easily recognizable as Swedish) and containing light hints of experimentation, the album opens with a light guitar riff and full-bodied (but mixed down) percussion in "Demensia". The vocals, like the percussion, are eerie and soft - they fit in the background while the instrumentation takes a [...]

This, his 57th studio album, is meat-and-potatoes Mayall -- a solid record, albeit a non-adventurous one, from a spirited veteran bluesman who still has things to say and songs to sing. In late 2008, there was a three-month gap where it looked as if John Mayall, "the Godfather of British Blues", would be calling it a day and hanging up the mantle of bandleader for good. After a gruelling tour in the previous year promoting his 56th studio album, In the Palace of the King, a tribute to blues legend Freddie King, the 76-year-old grandfather of six decided to [...]

Jonsi at Terminal 5 (May 8-9, 2010) Buy Tickets When we left Sigur Ros' front-man Jón Þór Birgisson (aka Jonsi ) back in December , he was working hard on his new solo record with producer Peter Katis . Well, now that new album has a title, Go , a release date, April 6 , and a bunch of North American tour dates to go along with it. Jonsi will be bringing his impressive sounding show to the big room at Terminal [...]
Well, this should be fun. The Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival has proved to be quite the epic annual event. For its 2010 edition, the festival organizers have decided to make the lineup announcement equally epic, so for the next 24 hours or so we'll be glued to our computer screens waiting to see who will be hitting Manchester, Tennessee from June 10-13. As previously mentioned, the lineup announcement will work something like this. Unlike previous announcements, the 2010 bill will not be unveiled all at once, but rather throughout the day, with the goal being [...]
Melbourne based Polygon Palace , Australia's latest weapon in their bit to talk over the ElectroPop world, have dropped this awesome track about a time machine being built in Tokyo city. Sounding a little like some of the UK LaptopPop acts but with a bigger sound, 'Tokyo Getaway' is SynthPop with a garage sound. The track is completely turned around into a slap bass heavy banger by Cryptonites while fellow Aussies Cassian rebuild the original track times 100 adding a sprinkling of Disco flavour. ♫ Polygon Palace - Tokyo Getaway [...]

Prog-metal act Mastodon has been touring virtually non-stop since Crack the Skye 's release in 2009, and the Atlanta-based group shows no signs of slowing down. Pitchfork recently announced a slew of Mastodon tour dates. The guys are currently in Europe until late February, and afterward, they will fly over to Central America and play packed arenas, opening for Metallica. Pure insanity! After their trek across the U.S. (with support from Between the Buried and Me, Baroness, Valient Thorr), they will return to Europe and play at the Sonisphere Festival. Mastodon: [...]

Wilkosz + Way Under normal circumstances, it'd be logical to consider the record that followed a band's breakthrough album through the lens of how those successes might have affected their creative process and output. You can't quite do that in the case of Woodpigeon's newest record Die Stadt Muzikanten , however, because even though its predecessor Treasury Library Canada was the album that brought the Calgary outfit national recognition via the Polaris Prize long list, Muzikanten was already completed and [...]
Despite being 75 years of age, Leonard Cohen is still recording , bitching , and touring (200 dates since 2008!) Filed under: News , UK Johnny Cash might seem as Southern as biscuits and gravy -- having been born in the backwoods of Arkansas, and made his name in Nashville, Tennessee -- but a new documentary explores the unlikely Scottish ancestry of the Man in Black.
