As 2009 nears its end, rumors are starting to swirl as to who might grace the Coachella stages in 2010. Today Consequence of Sound has divulged that Muse are more than likely slated to be one of the headliners of the yearly festival when it goes down April 16-18 in Indio, California. Muse join the shortlist of (confirmed?) acts, which includes Devo, Hot Chip, The XX, Miike Snow, and Aeroplane. Other heavily rumored acts include Phoenix, Vampire Weekend, The Raveonettes, Echo & the Bunnymen, The Dead Weather, Pavement, Spacemen 3, and The Stooges. [...]

According to Consequence Of Sound , a previously reliable source pins Muse to the coming year's desert fest headlining slot. Glenn Beck just bought a ticket. The dates are April 16-18. Oh and these Coachella headliner rumors? Needs more Pavement.
Coachella isn't the only music event already deep into planning for next year's festivities. As already particularity evident, the U.K. based All Tomorrow's Parties has already set itself up for one hell of a 2010, having tapped none other than the recently reunited Pavement and Simpsons creator Matt Gorening to serve as curators. The former revealed its first few selections a little while back , while he latter offered his first round of choices just yesterday (Nov. 18). So, who'd Mr. Groening pick? The Raincoats, Toumani Diabate, Danielson, James Blackshaw, Anni Rossi, and Viv Albertine's [...]
With the 2010 edition of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival scheduled to get underway a little less than five months from now, we are finally starting to get an idea of what the lineup will look like. According to a source with knowledge of the festival's plans, Muse will serve as a headliner for the Indio, CA event, set to take place from April 16-18. This will mark the British outfit's first appearance at Coachella since 2004 and will come amidst what will likely be a summer chock-full of tour dates in support of [...]

Pavement's reunion was understandably pretty big news. But really, we've had our own version all along in the form of Sir Yes Sir . Formed way back in 2005, they made a minor splash in 2007 (appearing on one of my old podcasts and a couple of other blogs) and to be honest, haven't done much since. Apart from be compared to Pavement by everyone. Things are a-happening soon though. A new EP out on tape and an album (on 12") are dropping. I'll repeat that - an EP out on tape and an album out [...]
Next year's pilgrimage to Manchester, TN has been confirmed for 6/10-6/13. Tix go on sale 11/27. (And for what it's worth, Pavement seem to be free that weekend.) Meanwhile, the future of Morrison, CO's Monolith Fest is " looking very grim ." Lend a hand (of cash) at Kickstarter .
At the moment, I'm reading Tom Holland's "Millennium", which concerns itself with the history of Europe from the Dark Ages through the millennium (at 1000AD, not the one nine years ago). One of the fascinating little nuggets of information that he's so good at peppering his books with was about the Viking invasion and settlement of northern England. Apparently, despite our perception that the Vikings were a smelly, rampaging horde of barbarians, they bathed once a week, wore eyeliner and took a lot of care over their hair. This, of course, made them rather popular with the [...]

[mp3] The Dig: "Two Sisters" We've been following this excellent group for almost a year now, and we're glad to offer a brand new mp3 from The Dig's upcoming LP that they just finished recording with Bryce Goggin (Pavement, Sean Lennon, Apples in Stereo, Sebadoh). The new song "Two Sisters" shows the promise of the band's upcoming recorded output, which had been a question mark, as the band had been steadily touring behind only a three song EP. Yet, their live show and quality of their music on stage is [...]

Urusei Yatsura were an excellent Glasgow based Lo- Fi band that were about in the 1990's, they were heavily influenced by bands like Pavement, Velvet Underground, Pixies and Sonic Youth. They released three albums in total, We Are Urusei Yatsura (1996), Slain by Urusei Yatsura (1998) and Everybody Loves Urusei Yatsura (2000) before finally calling it a day in 2001. The band name came from a Japanese comic, and roughly translates as "those pesky female androids" useless fact I know, [...]

Next in the Treasure Trove, we have The Clean... What can be said about The Clean ? In 1978, they were the seeds of New Zealand punk. They carved out a big sandbox for everyone to play in, and their influence resonated not only in New Zealand but around the world. The New York Times described The Clean : "This New Zealand band, which has been going off and on since 1978, plays a jangly, damaged kind of guitar pop and was a primary influence on Pavement and Yo La Tengo, and therefore virtually [...]

[image by Songbirdnest ] We have taped so many shows in the last two months that the backlog of recordings is approaching 30 different sets. There are still CMJ shows that have not been posted! That being said, we will continue to be very active during the Winter, recording a large variety of artists. If you want nyctaper to record your band, a band you represent, a show you're promoting, or even your favorite band in the world, get me on the list and make sure everyone who needs to approve [...]

Ride The Frightening Grooms (née Muggabears) from Brooklyn create the kind of hedonistic fantasy grunge that Sonic Youth and Pavement did in their heyday, combining powerful, churning guitar lines and intelligent basslines merging blissfully in a mélange of shimmering, powdery drums and whiny adolescent vocals. 'Dreamsucker' is an immediate favourite, with its glistening guitar and bass interplay and intense, cacophonic spurts combed through with odd, whirring synth sirens in the background adding a tangible eerieness. Grooms is truly a hidden gem, a powerful force to be reckoned with. Currently on tour [...]

Cunninlynguists haven't just gotten cool new t-shirts since we last checked in with them. They're also hitting the pavement to promote their upcoming Strange Journey Volume Two . I won't lie - the last few of their projects have hardly excited me; maybe I still can't get over the departure of the group's best MC, Mr. S.O.S. But the 'Lynguists nonetheless throw down on every tour, and their releases deserve attention. All that said; check the schedule below, and GO HERE [...]

As we progress down our path of the loveliest music of the decade, we'll give you a bit more detail on the records we've chosen. While we were infatuated with numbers 31-40 (which you can read here), we're ready to go to battle over every selection from 1 to 30. Not a bad song on any of these albums, if you ask us. You can listen to the entire album of each of these by registering with Lala.com.... but you knew that, right? While we don't claim this to be a defining document of merit, we [...]
Mclusky, Cubare & Wingnut, Bullingdon Arms, Oxford, 12 October 2000 The second in our series of self-promoted evenings at Oxford's glamorous Bullingdon Arms. Can't remember anything about Wingnut , though I have a hunch they were a group of people's dads from Abingdon. Cubare were, I think, a bit Pavement (I'm going out on a limb here). Mclusky were, of course, that insane Welsh band that Pitchfork still rave about years [...]
Steven "Pav" Pavlovic is founder and director of international record label Modular, which represents many of the names in the music industry right now: The Presets, Cut Copy, Ladyhawke and Van She, to name a few. What does your company do? Anything and everything with any kind of questionable link to good music. What is your background in music/business? I started out managing bands, then booking local venues around Sydney and then moved into promoting tours for both local and international bands, some of which [...]

this is some next level shit. Cassettes Won't Listen "Cut Your Hair" (Pavement Cover)
To win yourself a copy of Giant Hand's Coming Home please see the contest details at the end of this post. Kirk Ramsay has certainly had one heck of a whirl wind year. As the only man behind the moniker Giant Hand , he's got a lot to handle on his own. So far, so great. As 2009 ramps up to an end, there will certainly be more than a few year-end lists featuring Coming Home , Giant Hand's debut. Before things get really hectic for Ramsay (he's [...]
