Moody, chamber pop band Picastro launch their new album tomorrow night at the Tranzac with Nadja . Become Secret is a somber collection of songs featuring lovely layers of piano, cello and droning guitars. It's been exactly a year ago since I last spoke with bandleader Liz Hysen . She writes imaginative songs and plays with a solid rotating cast of musicians in the Toronto scene. The songwriting is, as usual, quite deep and I asked Liz about this, vinyl, and places she likes in Toronto.

The Champaign, Ill.,-based label Polyvinyl has found a new problem presented by music's digital age: The distributor the label used is downsizing its warehouse, which means that Polyvinyl needs to get rid of 10,000 albums that will take up too much space (read: cost too much money to be housed) in the distributor's new space. In September 2007, a US company gave Vincent Moon a plane ticket to New York, to film bands in the Lower East Side for a website.
