The XX have officially become a trio since the departure of their keyboardist/guitarist, Baria Qureshi (pictured second from the left). The band cancelled a number of gigs recently due to Baria's illness and exhaustion. Baria has now decided to leave the band for good and there are no current plans to replace her. Oliver Sims says "It's just been a case of, I suppose growing apart. It's a big jump from 13-years-old to 20. I think we've just grown into different people and I don't believe touring was for her, really." (via The Stool Pidgeon). [...]
Hey everyone, welcome back to Sunday Skool. I know it's been a couple of weeks since we've held a session, but it's all for a great cause! Which one is that? Well, I am now officially out of the U.S. Army & National Guard after 11 years of service (including 2 yearlong tours in Iraq). It's been an exhausting couple of weeks full of; paperwork, equipment turn-in, retirement parties (for me), memorial services (for those lost), deployment parties (for the rest of my unit deploying to Afghanistan this month), and even a little quiet contemplation about - my accomplishments, sacrifices [...]
The collapse of the Beachdown Festival at the end of summer is now wrecking the lives of the promoters - Joe Pidgeon is struggling to cope with the debts generated by the flop and has put his house on the market, reports The Argus: He said that although plans were falling into place to repay all ticket holders, some of whom paid hundreds of pounds for luxury tents, he was still "working tirelessly" to rectify the situation. After almost a month the Beachdown directors say they are making progress on repaying those people [...]

The JusLikeMusic podcast No. 35 has just recently been posted by Jeej over at JLM Never ones to be pidgeon-holed the JLM podcasts are a pretty acurate representation of DJing as it should be: thoughtful, insightful and not constrained by any one genre. We've been digging these regular ( but not as regular as we'd like! ) podcasts since no. 26 (which was published a year ago tomorrow incidently). Don't sleep, there is some solid stuff on here. Here's a link (direct to their blog) and the tracklisting: JLM [...]

"Watch that Pidgeon Poop, Stunna" Birdman does the smartest thing he could do - get Drake and Lil Wayne on a song with him. Drumma Boy on the beat delivering an infectious late summer joint. Don't you love it when people make songs about how the recession isn't affecting them? [Audio clip: view full post to listen]
So, it turns out the rumors are true: I just got an email from Chris Hnat of 230 Publicity confirming that the Dandy Warhols—the band everyone in town loves to hate—are indeed playing a FREE show tonight at Rontoms. And I have to say, I'm pretty excited. On Friday, word started to spread on Twitter that the Warhols would be playing an, unannounced show this weekend—one aided by posts on both PDX Pipeline and End Hits . I was too busy finishing the MFNW guide and still a bit skeptical until this afternoon when the [...]

T-FREE068: Term + Doe - "Positron" Term is a DJ and producer from Bonn, Germany. He has been making beats ever since he was 14, and on his active musical journey he came across Downbeat, Hip Hop, Drum & Bass and lately Dubstep. His Drum & Bass releases so far mostly took place on the (now defunct) Producer-Network label. The other guy, Doe, is located in Hamburg, Germany. He is into visual (especially 3-dimensional) arts and released some Dubstep tunes on Producer-Network. These two have teamed up for this tune which somehow manages to escape all [...]

Filed under: Around the World It must be hard sometimes for Luciana Souza to keep track of who she is night to night, musically speaking. The tour she's on right now has already seen her in an intimate jazz/bossa nova residency at San Francisco Performances, working in a trio format at New York's Jazz at Lincoln Center and teaming in her mezzo-soprano persona with dancer Rosa Collantes for three shows with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, sandwiched around a brief Spain tour. Still to come are another dance/orchestra program [...]

Fromagedisco likes to keep people guessing, we don't like to be pidgeon holed and we don't like people thinking they 'know' us. The two founding djs from Fromagedisco Melbourne Australia also run techno nights and electronica nights. So this is a bit of a mix from all three nights but with a destinct Fromagedisco disco flavour. Stumm - Frank Bretschneider Mix Into the wasteland - Filur Thirst - Challenge I need your love - The Rapture (Playgroup dub) Kilometer - Sebastian Tellier (aeroplane remix) Back 2 Black - Herman Schwartz Horns N Roses - Dop Lost in Acid [...]
After Radio 1 plays from Kissy Sell Out and Frankmusik labelling KiD his new favourite artist alongside an incredible amount of support from blogs, the latter part of 2008 was an incredible ride for KiD COLA . On the back of this, 2009 sees KiD COLA starting afresh with a massive remix of Ladyhawke's "Back Of The Van", which utilises Pip Brown's pop sensibilities and KiD's knack for puling out great hooks, as well as massive house beats, wobbling synths and even some dubstep influence. One could be mistaken for thinking this was going to [...]

Cambridge, UK based DJ KiD COLA has just released a remix of Ladyhawke's "Back of the Van" for you to enjoy. Following his Crystal Castles remix, this is one for lovers of a big bass bottom end (ooer missus). No doubt the hipsters are already getting tired of Ladyhawke but this remix has enough rough dub/rave bass to keep it fresh. It's a shame that he didn't remix something more interesting and outside the electroclash genre. Go on KiD, extend yourself. And get a new jacket while you're at it. [...]
So yes, this is supposed to happen on Tuesday, ideally. But the world is not always an ideal place and sometimes you wake up at 5 *PM* when you meant to wake up at 5 *AM*, and then before you know it you're not sure what day it is and you've had six cups of coffee and you've been wearing your favorite polar bear pajamas for three days and things get ugly. But now, here we are with another collection of mp3s which are very listenable indeed, and that feels great. I guess sometimes the [...]

I hate it when I or someone else sings a song from the 90s, or as early as nine months ago, and 7/10 times there is always that one person nearby who says in a derogatory fashion, "That song is old!" Enter Girl Talk's 2008 album "Feed the Animals", which is an amalgamation of those "old" and new songs. The first 30 seconds of track one combines Roy Orbinson, UGK, Spencer Davis Group, and TTC. Towards the end he goes onto combine the strings from Sinead O'Connor's "Nothing Compares 2 You" with Lil' Wayne's verse from "Stuntin Like My Daddy", [...]
