The idea that Earth has been visited by aliens at some point in the distant past is not a new one. In Sumer, the alien Gods were known as the Anunnaki. While in Greece, they are known as Annodoti and in the Celtic lore, the Tuatha de Danaan. Tthe Semetic scriptures (Torah, Talmud, Old Testament, and other Apocryphal texts like the Book of Enoch), call them The Nephilim, The Sons of God, or The Watchers. We are told the gods themselves had their own monarchy, with laws of succession similar to our own, and they built a [...]
Rating: 9.4/10 The words 'one' and 'gold' are very meaningful. For rulers, 'one' meant superiority and 'gold' meant power. For athletes, they speak of accomplishment. For musicians, 'one' can be either rising to the top or ... Great CD that got delivered to the station ... and which I picked up. Canada! There's something in the water up there that makes great indie-pop-country bands. And whistling ... someone in this band can whistle which is always a plus in my book.
For all the attention paid to multiple Canadian indie rock bands, there is one that has seemingly slipped through the cracks: Plants and Animals.
The Encyclopedia of Life: "Imagine an electronic page for each species of organism on Earth..." -Edward O. Wilson. EOL is community-building online database of animals, plants, and other organisms. Lost to learn, for instance,I know that we saw on our hike yesterday 150 Cervus elaphus.

By Jeff Kollath This interview will be the first in a series featuring gig poster artists both from the Madison area and throughout this fine country of ours. Our first subject is Marq Spusta , who currently resides in Three Rivers, California. A native of Waunakee and a graduate of UW-Stout with a degree in Art, Marq has been an artist since he was in elementary school, and has become one of the more popular poster artists on the West Coast. Earlier this month, Marq reintroduced himself to Madison audiences with a poster for [...]
Does everyone remember last week when I posted the Young Galaxy song? It was the one that was set to the oddly intriguing anime video. Well I'm back on YouTube this morning, looking to see if anyone has uploaded today's Ryan Dahle track, and sure enough I find it... set to an oddly intriguing anime video. It appears that there is a YouTube user, with impeccable taste in music, creating these Canadian indie/Japanese anime mashups; I feel that I must meet this person. Anyways, as mentioned, todays track comes to us from the Canadian music veteran Ryan [...]

If it's mid-October in New York City, then it's CMJ Music Marathon time... five days and nights of music, film, informative panels, and parties that guarantee a good time, if your idea of a good time involves nonstop live shows from up-and-coming musicians from a variety of genres. Thing is, since you're reading EAR FARM, we're going to go ahead and assume that CMJ 2009 is your idea of a good time. Ours too. And it just so turns out that fourteen of our previously featured Bands of the Week are playing the festival [...]

The Whigs are one of the most consistent bands I've seen in the past few years have a great new song out "In The Dark". I don't know what it is about this band, they play rock songs like concise pop gems, and when you see them live is pretty apparent they know exactly what they are doing. I think I've seen them 3 times now and it's always a good show, and it's fun to see a bands parents at a show. The song is over just as quick as it begins with some extremely [...]
As @jdickerson glimpsed something remarkable on his commute, I happened to glimpse his ponderous tweet amongst the barren timelines this morning and it brought me back over ten years to a college Literature course boldly titled Nature. Specifically, to a passage I read back then on the persistence and resilience of life, my introduction to Rachel Carson: The shore has a dual nature, changing with the swing of the tides, belonging now to the land, now to the sea. On the ebb tide it knows the harsh extremes of the land world, being exposed to heat [...]

White Sands, New Mexico, November 28, 1975 by Snap Man White Sands National Monument: Rising from the heart of the Tularosa Basin is one of the world's great natural wonders - the glistening white sands of New Mexico. Here, great wave-like dunes of gypsum sand have engulfed 275 square miles of desert and created the world's largest gypsum dune field. White Sands National Monument preserves a major portion of this unique dune field, along with [...]
I've got one more post for everyone tonight, to finish up the weekend on a high note. Ibi Dreams of Pavement (A Better Day) can be found on Broken Social Scene 's self-titled full-length album, released in October of 2005. Though the album would ultimately divide music critics, it was short-listed for the inaugural Polaris Music Prize in 2006 and went on to win the Juno for Alternative Album of the Year in the same year. One of the most common critiques of the album centered around the loose structure/delivery of [...]
I'm starting to compile a list of albums coming out in 2010. I know of a few so far and am aware of a handful that have been rumored. Definitely fill me in on any others, as I plan to add to this list as time goes on. Thanks. January Vampire Weekend - Contra (1/12 via XL ) Basia Bulat - Heart Of My Own (1/26 via Secret City [...]
Keeping with the theme of the last post, tonight's tune is another number that was performed at this year's Polaris Music Prize gala; The Toronto alt-country act Elliot Brood enlisted the audience's help on percussion, resulting in a performance that was hard not to enjoy. Write it All Down for You can be found on the band's second full-length album Mountain Meadows , released in June of 2008. On top of the Polaris short-listing, the album was also Juno nominated for "Roots & Traditional Album Of The Year: Group" and "Juno Award for [...]
It's a really good thing that fall has just started, even if summer is still lingering in the air just a bit. Not only is fall my favorite season of the year, but there's a certain aire of heaviness and darkness that lingers while all the plants die and animals begin to either store food for the impending cold or just plain get out of dodge. At the same time, fall is beautiful, like watching a sunset on the horizon at the end of what's been a gorgeous day. Digesting fall is like drinking a fine, aged wine - you [...]
