Well, we rocked the Casbah and had a good time with a series of matinee parties and now we've moved THE RUMBLE: SAN DIEGO to North Park and BAR PINK. We've had our eye on this place since our friends at INDIGENOUS turned us onto Dang and company and tonight we kick off 2010 with an incredible RUMBLE: SAN DIEGO line-up. The out-of-towner this month is the band that has absolutely wrecked The Rumble Tour this week, starting [...]

We're happy to tell you about some new friends we've made from Denver, Colorado: Snake Rattle Rattle Snake. They've just release their self-titled EP, and they've already us wanting more. We're offering up one of these tracks to you, which showcases the brooding vocals Hayley Helmericks. For some reason, this recalls a really dark version of Pretty Girls Make Graves if they were more post-industrial than post-punk, if that makes sense to anyone but me. The group is making their way to Austin for SXSW, and we'll [...]

Dear Seattle, We didn't leave you, we just enjoyed the holidays and prepared for what THE RUMBLE: SEATTLE is about to bring you TONIGHT at an all new location - HAVANA SOCIAL CLUB - and with two bands we think are incredible. Headlining and playing all The Rumble west coast dates in February is the mighty JAGUAR LOVE . The band is about to drop in March their full-length, ' Hologram Jams ' (Fat Possum) and their new material [...]

The perfect set up for Valentine's Day, we're thrilled to announce that JAGUAR LOVE will be playing ALL of the west coast RUMBLE dates in February. We've been clocking them for some time, but this new album, ' Hologram Jams ' is filled with just that, JAMS! The record drops in March on Fat Possum and we've already been banging ' Started A Fire ' and ' Polaroids & Red Wine " on the FS show on WOXY , but this disc runs deep. The [...]

Just as I finished updating the STL Concert Calendar The Billiken Club announced another show. Seattle threesome The Cave Singers will bring their brand of intimate indie-folk to The Billiken Club on March 23rd . The band was Born out of the unlikely ashes of Pretty Girls Make Graves , Hint Hint , Cobra High , and Murder City Devils . None of the guys ever listened to much folk, nor did [...]
Just in time for the Olympics, You Say Party! We Say Die! is a five-piece British Columbian (that means Canadian) dance-punk band that brings the noise like their Yankee neighbors to the immediate south - Seattle's Pretty Girls Make Graves - once did. And it's nearly the same setup bringing the hooks you can lean and rock with: two women (one vocals, one keys), three men (everything else). While

20. Static Radio NJ (Rock/pop-punk) (Black Numbers) Hailing from New Brunswick, Static Radio NJ is definitely a band you want to keep on your radar for 2010. I had the pleasure of sitting down for an interview with these guys a couple months ago and was blown away by their calmness and composure. These guys aren't in it for the fame, girls, or glory – they simply enjoy creating raw and passionate hard core/ punk rock. [...]

Disclaimer: Years are fairly arbitrary time periods. The only thing that makes a decade is the human conditions' odometer fetish. Unfortunately, like you, I'm human as well and fall prey to these tendencies. I can't claim to know everything, I'm just an educated observer; and here are my educated observations. They are not perfect and neither you nor I will completely agree with them in a years time, but that is the fun of lists. This year was all about the Flaming Lips. I don't care how old I get, I will still sing along to [...]

So, how was your 2009? Did you find what you were looking for? Was it rewarding? For me, it was. Simply because the search for new experiences always is. Whether it is a piece of music, a cinematic wonder or a work of art I find there is always something fulfilling in the search. Then if the search is fruitful it feels like bliss. Happily for me 2009 felt like a good year for music. In some ways better then 2008, but only time will be the true judge of that. In compiling my list I discovered a few things. [...]

Sure we may all spend our spare time contributing to the same blog, but us SubEx-ers are a diverse set. Never the type to settle on trying to come up with some sort of amalgamated top 10 list that could somehow simultaneously encapsulate all of our collective tastes we have instead opted to churn out separate lists. Really it just means lists for you to peruse and/or scoff at. Enjoy. CORY GRAVES' LIST 10. Dead Weather – Horehound Sinister heavily rocking [...]

In my continuing scramble to catch up with great albums from this year, I've recently come across The Cave Singers, a band out of Seattle. Apparently one of the Cave Singers is from Pretty Girls Make Graves, which is pretty cool. Anywho, I started spinning their latest album, Welcome Joy, and was struck by how much they do with very little. The opening track, "Summer Windows," is an exercise in simplicity - a little picked guitar line, echoing voices, and very subtle drums make up the song, which is beautifully [...]
