Yes, we got a particularly epic one for you, and for good reason. This was the week we announced our Top 100 Albums of the Decade after all! Whether you followed Spin Magazine 's lead to boycott Radiohead's "special" sound , or you are willing to do anything for a Yorke solo, nothing can prepare you for such blasphemy. You may have seen this spunky blond girl portraying Miley Cyrus' best friend on Hanna Montana , perhaps you just noted the resemblance Emily Osment shares with her clairvoyant brother Haley Joel - either way, this video is hard to stomach regardless of the camp you represent. I suppose it is fathomable to grasp a tween pop newbie like Emily Osment [...]

My favorite piece of news in the past week is Beck's musical response to that clueless buffoon from The Fiery Furnaces , who tried to insult Radiohead, blog-style, but missed the point completely. And in attempting to cover his ass retroactively, took a swipe at Beck. Well, Radiohead, in their lofty chairs of utter superiority, ignored the noise from the male half of a middling indie rock duo, but Beck took a measured swing and, of course, won handily. As you may well be aware, Radiohead wrote and recorded a song a few months back [...]

The breton buckwheat cake recipe featured today on eating/sf is a new favorite of ours. Thanks to the buckwheat, it is dense, rustic and has a slight, but noticeable, hint of alcohol courtesy of the rum. More, it's buttery and aromatic thanks to the cinnamon. The addition of sea salt gives it a nice little tang that makes it quite different from the typical sweet dessert. That is why it is a great dessert for adding toppings (such as maple syrup and/or yogurt or whipped cream). For those reasons, The National's sophomore album, Sad Songs [...]

Beck - "Harry Partch" ; The history of the musical feud dates back centuries probably, but in the last few decades it has really been the bearer of some terrific music at the hands of the hated on. This week Beck responded to all this Matt Friedberger (of The Fiery Furnaces) vs. Radiohead vs. Himself controversy with a song dedicated to late composer Harry Partch. Now that's not the same Harry Patch that Radiohead dedicated a song to. This little tune featuring snippets from Fiery Furnaces' songs and Partch's own composition structure really takes Friedberger to town. To [...]

Top recs: Jon Brion tonight, as always; Fiery Furnaces ( pictured; photo by David Greenwald ) and their Radiohead-hating madness at the El Rey on Saturday; Monday, the Books are playing a pretty special gig at Hollywood Forever but I'll be at the Happy Hollows residency to catch Real Estate. The full list for the next few days: 11/21 Saturday – Elefant w/ Division Day @ Troubadour AND Fiery Furnaces w/ Cryptacize, Dent May @ El Rey Theatre AND Holly Miranda opening for The xx, Friendly Fires @ Henry Fonda Theater 11/23 Monday – El Perro Del [...]
We may have thought, yesterday, that the now three-way Fiery Furnaces-Radiohead-Beck feud instigated by the Furnaces' Matt Friedberger was over. Instead of whining via publicist or ignoring Friedberger's random attack, Beck responded by offering a fairly awesome free track called (what else?) "Harry Partch." All seemed right in the world: Radiohead had kept its silent dignity, Friedberger had been thoroughly PWNED and Beck had made sure the kids at least got something out of the media circus. But Friedberger, we've learned, just doesn't know how to gracefully accept defeat . He's [...]

Death Cab For Cutie forsangeren Ben Gibbards hyggeprojekt The Postal Service rendte med 2. pladsen, blandt andet foran to [...]

" evitative " is the brand new album from one of my favorite collegiate a cappella groups u penn off the beat . off the beat has been praised among the a cappella community for their innovative qualities and always pushing the envelope. each year the group comes out with an album of tracks you'd never thought would be able to be done a cappella. don't be fooled by the production, all sounds on the album originated from human voices. while the vocals have been obviously altered with digital effects, no digital or live instruments were sampled. i've had [...]

It's never easy to map out an entire decade in music. So, in constructing the "Decade in Music" interactive timeline , we sought to shape it with some of the bigger tent-pole trends, news (Elton John performing with Eminem) and groundbreaking changes in the industry, business and technology (Napster, the iPod). We also wanted to highlight albums (Britney Spears, Danger Mouse, Radiohead) that took a snapshot of the era, as well as deaths (Ray Charles, Johnny Cash) that affected everyone. And, of course, we wanted to include the occasional "wardrobe malfunction" controversy or bizarre curiosity ("Trapped in the Closet") [...]
This was probably started when that stupid Matthew Friedberger/Radiohead beef, in which only The Fiery Furnaces musician responded. And this track may come from an offhand remakr at the end of his press release that said: "Matt would have much preferred to insult Beck but... Click the link to read more

According to Paste Magazine , Interpol has recorded a new album and it's coming out shortly. I didn't so much care for their third LP, Our Love to Admire, but it had a couple of fantastic songs ("Pace is the Trick" and "There's No 'I' in Threesome"), so here's hoping it harkens back to happier times. In one of the weirder Radiohead news stories of the year (topped only by Miley Cyrus telling the band she'd "ruin them"), the Fiery Furnaces ' Matt Friedberger started beef with Yorke and company over what he thought was a "bogus" tribute to experimental music composer Harry Partch. Actually, Radiohead had released a song about the death of Harry Patch , the last British World War I veteran, but this didn't make Friedberger change his tune. Instead, the Fiery Furnaces released the following statement: [...]
So in case you don't read any blogs who occasionally report on goofy feuds within the music community, I'll catch you up. Matt Friedberger of the Fiery Furnaces said that Radiohead were trying to be hip by writing a song about the inventor of the 43-tone scale, Harry Partch. Problem was that their song was [...]

You like feuds, right? Because this new Beck song is the baby of the feud of the year and it's pretty messy. The story goes like this: Radiohead wrote a song back in August about Harry Patch, the UK's oldest surviving WWI veteran (aww!). Well The Fiery Furnaces' Matthew Friedberger heard this and mistook it to be a song about apparently trendy 20th century composer Harry Partch . Because this upset him so, Friedberger lambasted Radiohead for being obnoxious and writing about trendy things. When he realized his mistake, he released a statement that read: "Matt would [...]
The fine folks over at A.V. Club have posted their best-of-the-decade music list today, and at number one they've got the White Stripes' White Blood Cells. That pick is sure to start some rabble-rabble below, but it's a solid pick, backing away from the easy gimme of putting Kid A on top. Though I do take umbrage with calling White Blood Cells "true," since most of the songs are far from any "truth" as I know it. Still though, solid pick. The top ten is rounded out by [...]
