Taco Bell has named 100 bands in their 2009 Feed the Beat lineup. The plan provides free food and marketing support to touring bands. Bands apply for the spots which are chosen by a panel of judges based on " performance and musicianship, originality and material selection, and overall appeal and personality. " Some notable selections include The All-American Rejects , Atreyu , The Bouncing Souls , Broadway Calls , Defeater , Fake Problems , Less Than Jake , Municipal Waste , Red [...]

Taco Bell's Feed the Beat promotion has had a stumble or two in the past--such as when famed vegetarian Ted Leo won without even entering. However, giving bands free food on the road is always a great promotion (and, for the record, Taco Bell DOES offer vegetarian options). The announced winners for 2009 are after the jump. Though I'm wondering if "Electronic Six" from the list of winners is supposed to be "Electric Six." Let's hope it's not a Ted Leo-ish flub! Winners of the 2009 Feed the [...]

Photography by gabriele chiapparini A lot of thanks to our Senior VIP/VP Fulltext for turning my sights toward this gem... I love me some bluegrass, I really do. I remember back in Tampa during my effervescent young adulthood, living in my garage-converted-to-an apartment (it was underneath the garage apartment, ceilings about 6'3", I'm 6'1") with my bicycle and moped down in the Hyde Park area, playing chef at the local 4 star hotel, where every Tuesday, I think, the local community radiostation, [...]

In the first part of our Black Body Politic series, we briefly discussed the history of black models and fashion. This installment finds us chatting with up and coming model Khayattollah. Khayattollah has been a model and muse for the Boxing Kitten brand, an amazing company whose designs are based on the tradition of women with "ethnic rockability." You may have also caught her in the campaign for fashion brand A Peace Treaty (which made it's way to the e-pages of FADER ), as well as being featured by TRACE and more. [...]

Its Remembrance Day in Canada, Veteran's Day in the US. Having lived in both countries, Canadians take Remembrance Day very, very seriously, much more so than in the US. Perhaps it is because Canada doesn't have a formal Memorial Day like the US does. November 11 is recognized internationally as Armistice Day commemorating the formal end of World War I in 1918. Most people in Canada don bright red poppies on their left jacket lapel, above the heart. Many will read the poem In Flanders Fields [...]

Photography "Autumn Queen" by Us... Well... I'm a sad bird today. This morning I dropped off Baby at the airport for her trip to China and then India for work. It's a good trip and I'm so happy for her for getting the chance to go, but I'm going to miss her like a mad man. Not going to dwell on it too much here, but baby, I know it's not the most glamorous of trips, but have fun, take care of [...]

For many, Pelican have much to answer for. Their career thus far has been haphazard. For every great doom-laden slab like the self-titled EP or Australasia , there are messy, wankish post-rock releases like City of Echoes and the Pink Mammoth EP. A label switch to Southern Lord didn't raise hopes for a change in direction. Perhaps the threat of excellent albums released by instru-metal peers Russian Circles (reviewed here ) and Red Sparowes lit a fire under Pelican's collective ass, because What We All Come to [...]

Trauma - m4w (Columbus) Date: 2009-10-30, 4:29PM EDT Reply To This Post You, the blonde with the large red collar, who had the sweetest lips I've ever tasted. I was the young guy, in all black, with short hair in the grope room (not one of the overly aggressive mexicans). I wanted to ask to buy you a drink but never had the chance. Let me know, if you'd like [...]

Let's Get Out Of This Country / Camera Obscura (2006) A nearly flawless gem of a record from the co-ed Scottish group that just gets better with age. We picked things right back up on Thursday afternoon, teaming up with our friends at Punknews.org to put together a showcase of some of the best rock around. Our Thursday afternoon showcase was once again at The Studio At Webster Hall where we cracked open the doors at noon for patrons to come in and take advantage of the early drink specials (and they did). People caught sets by Let Me Run , who were just a few shows into their run with a new vocalist, Defeater [...]

Oh, how we can giggle now at the picture sleeves, but did Edwyn Collins ever think his rig-out of jacket, collar and tie, red shorts, white socks and brogues were remotely hip? Or even fey??? Welcome along to what I hope will be a long-running and enjoyable Friday series looking at 7", 12" or CD singles that have been released over the years by bands/acts/singers that are connected to my homeland. Let's start with our own rock royalty. Or at least one by [...]

With the CMJ Music Marathon imminent, just a reminder about our showcase with the nice people at The Syndicate . The show takes place from noon to 6pm on October 22nd at Webster Hall. The lineup right now includes Bridge and Tunnel , Look Mexico , Red Collar , Far From Finished , Defeater and Let Me Run so there is a little something for everyone whether your tastes are for hardcore, straight up punk rock, post-hardcore or something in between.

Why can't Sunday be a day of merriment? Seriously. Why can't we go into work, a bit achy but armed with anecdotes for the chipper people who decided to watch a movie? It was with this frame of logic as my guide that I decided to rechristen Sunday. And while the good boys and girls were at home, keeping their bodies safe from the night, I was at the Crystal Ballroom in the middle of a hot, sweaty dance party. But first, a history lesson. Pretty Lights came into my life through [...]
