Good morning! Enjoying the Taylor Swift infographic above? Well, this should be fun. The Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival has proved to be quite the epic annual event. For its 2010 edition, the festival organizers have decided to make the lineup announcement equally epic, so for the next 24 hours or so we'll be glued to our computer screens waiting to see who will be hitting Manchester, Tennessee from June 10-13. As previously mentioned, the lineup announcement will work something like this. Unlike previous announcements, the 2010 bill will not be unveiled all at once, but rather throughout the day, with the goal being [...]

So I've been sitting on Laurent Bourque 's impressive debut CD for a few months now, trying to come up with the right way to describe it without making it sound like it's a bit on the dull side. You could slide it into the singer/songwriter genre, but that makes it sound boring. You could say it's a rock album, but that conjures up images of bar bands and classic rock, and that's not doing it justice either. And it's certainly hooky enough to be called a pop album, but the sounds are a tad too organic for it [...]

Take cover! The new Peter Gabriel album Scratch My Back is a mixed bag of golden oldies and modern day artist songs. Mainly orchestral and sometimes radically reworked Gabriel tackles the songs with a mixture of glee and respect. The more subdued songs stand out - the melancholic piano and cello add texture to a slowed down version of Paul Simon's The Boy in the Bubble , and the strings in the Talking Heads' Listening Wind wrap the vocals like a comfy blanket. Pity that I Think it's Going to Rain Today [...]
You have to give credit to Yeasayer for being brave. After releasing one of the more adventurous albums of 2007 with their world music-influenced debut, All Hour Cymbals , the Brooklyn band returns with a romantic and nearly electro-pop experience for their sophomore release, and you can already feel a backlash coming. They had previously positioned themselves between Animal Collective and Dirty Projectors in their sensibilities, but with Odd Blood , they sound closer to Depeche Mode (that is, if [...]

There's been a few changes... The leaked songs seem less faerie than before, less otherness but there's a triple CD out there, waiting for release - so, there could be excess around the corner. I hope so, because, while I like these songs, Good Intentions Paving Company seems to bring her more into line with the likes of Regina Spektor et al and she's always stood apart from the others; fidgeted awkwardly, spectacularly, quietly in the corners. The other released track is a return to The Milk [...]
Alright kiddies, it's that time of year again! And it's about time we started doing leg stretches, jogging, and building stamina in preparation for the wild disco radical trans-global gypsy outfit known only as Gogol Bordello rolling through our home towns. In support of their undoubtedly spectacular fifth studio album, Transcontinental Hustle , Eugene Hutz and his gang of Multi-Kontra misfit musicians have finally added a chunk of U.S. dates to their upcoming Casa Gogol Tour! The Casa Gogol Tour holds many surprises for us this spring. Kicking off in New York, as per usual, [...]
Australian singer/songwriter Sally Seltmann shares more with Leslie Feist that just co-writing credits on Feist's hit (and iPod commercial sensation) "1-2-3-4". Along with claiming the same recording label (Canada's Arts and Crafts), both have that particularly ingenious skill that entails concocting intelligent, hook-riddled pop songs that manage to skirt any detrimental semblance of mainstream pap -- something that has given them (along with the likes of Beth Orton or Regina Spektor) both indie cred and, in Feist's case, commercial success. After two fine albums under her original moniker New Buffalo, Seltmann has claimed her own name -- and [...]

This list could go hundreds, thousands deep and it would still only touch the surface, so you know how much a struggle it was for me to cut it down to just 50. Ranking art is always a bit of a silly process, and it's even more here, when every single song is brilliant. So don't take the order too seriously. The real point of this is to give people a chance to hear the things that I simply couldn't live without, the songs that make my whole world go around – and to hopefully [...]
Peter Gabriel has an orchestral-assisted covers album called Scratch My Back due next week where he does his own versions of the likes of The Arcade Fire, David Bowie, Paul Simon, Magnetic Fields, Neil Young, Radiohead and Talking Heads. You can hear his cover of Bon Iver's 'Flume' right here and download it below: Tracklisting: Heroes (David Bowie) The Boy in the Bubble (Paul Simon) Mirrorball (Elbow) Flume (Bon [...]

Peter Gabriel is getting set to release Scratch My Back , his orchestral indie rock cover album. It is Peter's first album in 7 years. Bob Ezrin produced the album that features covers from the likes of Arcade Fire, Bon Iver, Bower, Elbow, and Radiohead. I stumbled across two of the covers and want to share them with you. They are his rendition of Arcade Fire's "My Body Is A Cage", and Bon Iver's "Flume". Peter Gabriel taps into the mood set by both of these songs and successfully transforms it into his own. The orchestration is [...]
