Tuesday, February 9, 2010 For the sake of not having to write the same intro a million different ways throughout the rest of time, just know that this column avoids the overly long and sometimes dull process of full film reviews and instead opts to break things down based on what I thought going in, what happened while I was there and what I learned at the end of it all. Hope that's OK. Read on! The Breakdown - The Wolfman [...]

From Bristol comes Malakai , a psychedelic independent artist that is ready to release his album "Compass" in May 17 th . I just received his first single which I have completely fallen for, the song is called "Fading World" a psychedelic homage to the 70's intermixed with modern touches, and it makes me long for more; I can't wait for the rest of the album to come out. Malakai - Fading World [...]
Chances are Atlanta and Magic City top most lists when the subject of America's best duos is mentioned. Like it or not, it's a symbol permanently tattooed on the city. Sort of like Green Bay and cheese, but not really. Unfortunately, I have yet to cross #65 on my bucket list by going to an Atlanta strip club and throw money around like I haven't learned the concept of gravity. But there is a deeper lesson behind all this misogyny and effortless disposal of currensy. Yeah, you may be resembling someone of importance for [...]

After a hectic day of updating the constaly updating Bonnaroo lineup page , the entire thing has been announced. Gwar , Norah Jones , and the rest of the lineup below... Continue reading "the complete 2010 Bonnaroo lineup (Stevie Wonder, The Melvins, Kings of Leon, Isis, Local Natives & many more) " at BrooklynVegan.com
Since 6:47 AM EST this morning, when Phoenix became the first band to confirm its participation for Bonnaroo 2010 , we have been glued to our computers (literally), waiting the rest of this year's act to take similar action. And while it proved incredibly tedious, maddening, and downright inane (at least for those who endured the 14+ hour affair), in the end, the Manchester, TN festival got what it wanted - attention and lots of it. As for the end result of said attention? An initial lineup announcement headed by Jay-Z, Stevie Wonder, Dave Matthews [...]

Busy boys, Diplo and Switch have no time to rest. Preparing to launch a Major Lazer cartoon on Adult Swim, working on M.I.A.'s next album ("It's like Gucci Mane meets Animal Collective.") and now it looks like they've got another EP set to drop. No rest for the weary when your aim is to take over soundsystems worldwide. Download - Major Lazer Feat. M.I.A. – "Sound Of Siren" Props: illRoots

Honestly, I'm a little surprised that my blog is still here after Blogger's rampage today. The switch to Wordpress is coming together nicely and I can breathe a little easier knowing that I've got the whole blog backed up on a Wordpress site just waiting to get designed so I can make this official. I can also breathe easier knowing that if Blogger does delete my blog at this point, I can call them suckers and dream killers and suggest that they go get fucked. Rest in peace to all the fallen blogs. *Pours out cup of Orangina onto carpet* [...]

As Los Angeles is socked in with rain, today seemed like a good day to delve in to Massive Attack's latest, Heligoland , out today. Certain artists are most conducive to listen to during different times of the year- for instance, Dr Dre's The Chronic is best enjoyed on a hot summer day, with the top down and a shortie riding shotgun. I suggest Diane Birch's Bible Belt should be listened to with the leaves turning colors and and a nice warm latte in one's hand. Throw on Bob Dylan's Together [...]

( Editor's note: That's not my living room up there. It's a photo of The Who on a huge TV in an immaculate entertainment room that I found on Flickr. Pretty good visual metaphor for the current state of the band that recorded The Who Sell Out, no? Three quick things on the Super Bowl before we dive into this most recent edition of the singles club. 1. The Who - Let me preface this by saying that I love The Who as much as any other band on the planet. A cassette copy [...]

Pitchfork: Do you know when the album will be out? RR: We would love to have it out sometime this summer. There's record label scheduling and stuff, but the tone of the record is kind of fun, with a more pop element to it. The EP might have been darker, but the songs coming together for the LP are definitely a brighter, more poppy version of us- but still noisy and in the No Age vein. Already one of my most anticipated releases of the year this paragraph moves it directly to the top [...]

You know how when you ask a marijuana-loving friend of yours to pick you up a soda on his way over to your house and he shows up three days later with the soda and like a couple strangers, a Buick that's clearly been in an accident and the cousin you haven't seen since the 1987 family reunion? That is what watching Bonnaroo announcing its 2010 lineup over a twelve hour period today has been like so far, and we're only halfway there! Still, what we've got so far is enough to buy tickets immediately and begin shopping [...]

Now a days, it seems as though there are very few artists who no one can ever say anything bad about, and when you have the chance to actually meet those artist and become their friends you can understand why. (photo by: John Henry Baliton) Free the Robots is one of those artists, I remember first hearing about them 3 years ago and it seemed the more I mentioned their name the more I realized they had fans in places that you would never expect. Nonetheless [...]
"Rearview" is the first official leak from Marco Polo and Ruste Juxx's upcoming The eXXecution album. And, hot damn, this makes me want to go out and do things I'd probably end up in jail for, something I can't help but feel after listening to a lot of Duck Down Records' output actually. But I digress. If the rest of The eXXecution plays out like this track, it looks like we have another solid grimy NYC album on our hands. Marco Polo succeeded in doing so last year with Torae, so it only makes sense for [...]

Los Angeles-via-Pennsylvania multi-instrumental singer and home recordist Evan Voytas -- sort of a more clean-cut Ariel Pink -- creates strange synth-pop/space-disco outings that feel danceable but private and insular. The idea's explored in the video for his most recent single "I Run With You, Spirit Animal." The clip was directed by Carlos Charlie Perez, who recently finished the upcoming Vampire Weekend video and shot those tongue-in-cheek promos that showed up on ithinkuracontra.com . You'll find that playfulness, here as well, after Voytas locates a place to rest his plank of wood while he tries on sunglasses and animal masks. [...]
