The Welcome Sailor is a traditional song which was brought to wider notice when Lal and Norma Waterson covered it on their 1977 album A True Hearted Girl . It's doubtful that either would have anticipated the eerie strangeness of this version, however. Richard Youngs uses multi-tracked vocals and electronics to for a haunting and decidedly experimental performance. i don't think i've ever heard a richard youngs album that i haven't loved, and this is no exception. they always make me feel so calm for some reason, even though many of the sounds are quite unsettling. maybe it's his use of repetition or maybe it's the spacey atmosphere he creates, rather like john clyde-evans. tape released by chocolate monk in 1994. grab it with grabbing hands.
