Our 73rd exclusive FACT Mix comes from San Francisco's Christian Martin . Martin is best known for his rampant DJ sets and his releases, solo and as part of the Martin Brothers, on Dirtybird, the label he operates with Claude Von Stroke. Over the years Martin has refined a bassy, funked-up techno-cum-gutter-house sound; his recent nterest in the effervescent UK funky and dubstep scene led to him headlining a recent Night Slugs party alongside Cooly G. His FACT Mix draws all kinds of unlikely but sonically successful links between [...]

"Dogs" by Pink Floyd which clocks in at 17:08 . Animals , Pink Floyd's fifth proper studio album, is a concept album loosely based upon the ideas put forth in George Orwell's classic socio-political commentary Animal Farm . In the book, various social classes are depicted by animals on a farm and Pink Floyd used these same metaphors (dogs as businessmen, pigs as politicians, and sheep as the powerless lower/middle class) to comment on mid/late '70s Western societies in the three songs that form the [...]

I haven't checked my dropbox for a while, I assumed I'd never really get anything in there until I embraced Myspace and Hype Machine a little more. A nice little mix has been sent over from London's very own Park Ranger . The mix showcases some great techno tracks and precise mixing. He's a resident at London's Trouble Vision and studying in Liverpool at the moment, get this guy some gigs! The Oish Master... 1.Prompt - Evolve (Original Mix) 2.Adam Shaw - Six Degrees - Original Mix [...]

Sometimes I wonder if I'm not living in a Bizarro World where one day everyone is going to jump out of my TV and yell "Surprise!" and everything will be fine and we will all drink hot toddies and laugh about the joke that was life in the '00s, particularly that one show about midgets and tall people dating and the other show about the plastic surgery beauty pageant and that one band from Florida with the guy with the black eyes that was sooo stupid and yeah everything is going to be fine. Yep, everything's going to be [...]

You say that you love me but I ask you How much? So you spread your arms wide till behind you your thumbs touch And you hold that position as I add it all up In cold hard mathematical terms you're in love Hold me, don't think too hard about it Would common sense allow it? You wait too long and you'll lose me Just do it when you get the urging Oh it's not rocket surgery When you know you love someone It's easy Although Bird's Eye View has been buried [...]

Right down to the wire for our second best of 2008 post. This list of original music is a little longer than our best of remixes run down. There were just too many to widdle it down! As with the previous list , all of these tunes are A1 quality bad ass shit and should be purchased. Bitrates have been dropped down to a level which comes across as decent for casual listening but will sound like complete ass when being played out. If you're a DJ, please use the buy links provided and support these artists. [...]

"Kill The Lights" is the second tangible piece of evidence of the validity of Britney Spears ' comeback. There have been many fakes running around the internet over the last few weeks, but the real deal has just leaked. Listen to Britney's already infectious "Kill The Lights" below. B ritney Spears - Kill The Lights "Kill The Lights" was produced by Danja aka Nate Hills, who was responsible for Blackout' s successful lead [...]
The Copyrights are from Carbondale, Illinois (where my brother just happened to live for many years) and their pop-punk sounds just the way I remember it sounding during my formative years. Their fourth full-length album Learn The Hard Way packs fourteen songs of no-nonsense pop-punk into its 26 minutes leaving you (the listener) foaming at the mouth for more. It's Teenage Bottlerocket, Screeching Weasel, and Ramones influenced four-on-the-floor pop-punk that is catchy like a squirtgun filled with pinkeye pus, maybe catchier. Simply put, nothing on Learn The Hard Way hints at brain surgery, [...]

With Amy Kuney, appearances are certainly deceiving. Sure, the singer/songwriter looks youthful, perhaps even younger than the early 20s bracket she occupies, but just wait until she sits down at a piano and starts singing. The onstage presence and authority she displays is impressive for an artist of any age, and that's before you even notice her songwriting, which resounds with finely observed details and engaging left turns. Perhaps this is because Kuney isn't your typical young artist. She has nearly 20 years of musical experience, having begun piano lessons at age four. Between church performances and piano [...]

I've been wondering for a while now about what this blog's readership might be like. I have a hunch it's mostly large dudes in their parents' basements, but this post is made in the hopes that a few small label owners might read. Rocket Surgery is a band I've been aware of for a few years and though I've always expected them to get big, they somehow still self release albums. Why should this be? Can't really be the music's fault. Poor marketing perhaps? Hopefully I can help a bit... [...]

So 'Dum' by The Martin Brothers was on the Dirty Bird released 'Rocket Surgery' EP that was put out a little while ago and here's a remix by Dj.dstar and L-ion that toughens up the beats and gives the track a whole different vibe. It was entered in the Dirty Bird Remix Contest and unfortunately wasn't chosen but it gets our vote. mp3: the martin brothers - dum (dj.dstar & l-ion remix).

Wow, this week flew by. I've been really busy, but all the while listening to some great tuneage. My calendar is clear this weekend, and I'm looking forward to a laid-back weekend. Since autumn is officially here, I'm also hoping to get outdoors to enjoy the last bit of really warm weather for the year. Speaking of the end of summer, fall's biggest music festival kicks off this weekend in Austin, TX- the Austin City Limits Music Festival . Wish I could be there. Anyhow, to the music... I've got new Athlete this week, which I didn't [...]
