With Thanksgiving now less than two weeks away, I figured it was about time to repost my tried and true recipe for brined and roasted turkey. So what if I ganked the original recipe from the amazing Alton Brown a few years ago. I've made enough delicious changes that it really feels like mine though. I'm still thinking about the possibility of cooking something else a little less traditional for Thanksgiving... something like a Bacon Explosion perhaps. (Yum!) And my mother's vegan pumpkin pie to balance it all out. Oh yeah! Here's the recipe: [...]

This past weekend I was able to see a special "living room" concert by one of my favorite artists, Rocky Votolato. Anticipating a larger tour next spring with the release of his new album "True Devotion," Rocky mentioned at the show that he wanted to play in front of smaller groups of us diehard fans to remind him why he does what he does. Luckily for me, I was there to hear it. Rocky Votolato

Asthmatic Kitty has put together a three release catalogue of what they are calling a "life soundtrack". These three long playing audio expeditions are suggested by AK for any of your daily events to counteract the all to common akward silences we deal with every day. The Library Catalogue Series has been dreamed up by three amazing artists, and the collection was released on July 7, 2009. The first release of the series comes from 900X , and is titled Music from Lubbock, 1980 . 900X is the alias for James McAlister [...]

Every once in a while, I wish I lived in a hip Pacific northwest city like Portland. It's not like I have a thing for Oregon, but when someone announces an initial festival lineup like Musicfest NW did - well, it makes me pine for the land of Mel Blanc, Linus Pauling and Harmon Killebrew. Especially Mel Blanc. I love that guy. Musicfest NW 2009 lineup Sunny Day Real Estate Explosions In Sky Bad Brains Girl Talk The Get [...]

West Coast crooner Rocky Votolato is planning a 3 week West Coast House Show Tour right now! If you're interested in hosting one of these shows, read below. Here's how it works: 1. You have a house or loft space that can comfortably and safely host 30-50 people...There would need to be enough parking nearby and your neighbors should be cool. It would be a huge bummer if someone called the cops because of all the extra cars and people coming to your house. If you [...]

As Brian's been treading water this week and clearly relating to our readership, it's been a week where our ethos has taken a left turn. I've been in Advance Placement English Teacher Boot Camp all week, and I've barely had a second to lie down, much less prop my feet up and fire out 800 words on any proper reviews this week. That's not good, either, as some great albums were released on Tuesday. I also had originally planned on making The Wooden Birds show, Crocodiles show (with Brian), and Cotton Jones show. None of these have happened, and I [...]
