Last night, after being in the states for less than 24 hours, Friendly Fires played a random private party for Fred Perry at SPIN New York...and you can trust Tastes Like Caramel was there for all of the fun! It was our first time at the venue which played host to a ping pong event with the band providing the headlining entertainment. The party was in celebration of the Fred Perry brand and Friendly Fires kicking off their winter NYLON tour Thursday night in Texas with The Xx. We had the pleasure of interviewing [...]

Started in 1989 by a few members of some D.C. based bands, Slumberland Records has become synonymous with great indie pop music over the last 20-years. Since 1992, Mike Schulman of Black Tambourine has helmed the label bringing us fantastic music from bands like Stereolab, The Ropers, The Aislers Set, Crystal Stilts, and The Pains of Being Pure at Heart. This week Slumberland Records is celebrating it's 20th anniversary with a pair of shows, Friday in Washington D.C. at the Black Cat ( tix ) and Saturday in Brooklyn at The Bell House ( [...]

whoops, went a bit quiet there for a bit... back again with another podcast. i've been hugely enjoying john robb's "death to trad rock" book . for the uninitiated it covers all those difficult, angular, wonky uk bands from the 1980s that small numbers of men can't talk about without getting slightly breathless and/or misty-eyed. sarandon has the distinction of being the only contemporary band to be included, and while we wait for the release of the accompanying compilation album , crayola has dun a podcast: ac temple - all hail discordia [...]

Let it be known that I do not care much for Twilight . To me, vampires are becoming a far too common cliché in film, and I have to draw the line at teen romance novels under the guise of modern horror. That said, I'm especially surprised and baffled by the latest bit of Twilight -related news, which reports that Peter Murphy , the dark and decadent frontman of Bauhaus , will be making a cameo in the latest film, New Moon . The news [...]

Who? Portrait of David What? Melancholic Slowcore Sounds like? Low, Spain, The White Birch So, I started this way too confusing attempt to trade all my unwanted cds that keep piling up in my room for ones that are more suited to my taste, and I had no reponse this far. Logically, cause it's way too confusing. And the list is too long. So i decided to just introduce all these bands on my blog, so that if you listen to [...]
By The Superperv! This is Eva Amurri...........she is the daughter of Italian director Franco Amurri, and American actress Susan Sarandon. Isn't she a beauty? I mean she shares her mom's looks from head to toe, in fact she could be the next Susan Sarandon! So why am I making a post about Eva? Well recently she was in an episode of Californication as a stripper named Jackie and you're probably

El sello Slumberland Records no para de ofrecernos novedades discográficas, las últimas en llegar han sido los singles de Frankie Rose, Gregory Webster, Sarandon, o los que hoy nos ocupan, The Bats, grupo neozelandés con mas de 25 años de carrera musical a sus espaldas, unos años en los que han publicado un total de 7 álbumes y han realizado 4 giras internacionales. ein besuch bei slumberland lohnte in der jüngeren vergangenheit immer. das pausieren sollten sie man auch mal schön bleiben lassen. fassen wir nun einige der letzten bewegungen zusammen:: passen natürlich peferkt auf das label, mit der "don't you rise" ep (im oktober erschienen) wird noch einmal stolz an der eigenen karriere flaniert und die wichtigkeit einer neuseeländischen band in der welt abgemessen, sollte es allerdings keine zweifel geben, woran auch immer: the bats - face inside the sun ein the membranes cover, das weit [...]

Morning dears. Head okay? Oh well, it was worth it wasn't it? Happy Saturday to one and all. This week's film roundup is a dreamy, if slightly screamy but I think you can handle it. Enjoy. 1. N ext year's Oscar contest is taking its cool, sweet time to come into focus. Usually, by late September, I can pull together a rough set of predictions, but after reports from the Toronto and Venice Film Festivals, all I have are sketches, a few scattered hopefuls. Fashion designer Tom Ford's A Single Man (pictured above: costars Colin Firth, left, and Matthew Goode), the Oprah Winfrey-Tyler Perry co-produced Precious , and Joel and Ethan Coen 's A Serious Man seem to be likely nominees in various categories, as does Jason Reitman's [...]

New Jersey's a weird place. The outside world marvels at the state, wondering how one can even survive in such conditions. (note: NJ state slogan- only the strong survive.) Residents, both home and abroad, however, hold the Garden State in a high regards, noting the unparalleled sweet corn, uber-ripe tomatoes and Susan Sarandon's breasts as some of the state's most prized output. Soon to be added to that fine list of Garden State crops is Real Estate's self-titled debut full-length, to be released by Jeremy Earl's Woodsist label on November 17th. In proper fashion, Real Estate [...]
![Susan <span style="color: #384E60; background-color:#84CCF2">Sarandon</span>'s daughter strips for Showtime's 'Californication' [video]](http://cache.elbo.ws/posts/1996499_lg.jpg)
Spending those extra few bucks a month to get 'Showtime' suddenly seems more appealing than ever. The beautiful Eva Amurri, 24-year-old daughter of Susan Sarandon and Franco Amurri, will be appearing on the third season of of Showtime's 'Californication' as 'Jackie' a student/stripper. You remember, just like the girls you knew in high school. The show's star and executive producer David Duchovny, previously of 'The X Files' fame, is playing the teacher who seems to encounter quite a few highly questionable run-ins with his perfect little student. In the clip below you'll hear an [...]

wooo yes a podcast! this could be the first of an occasional series or a one-off. who knows. anyway, this comes courtesy of our man just outside leicester, crayola, aka the man behind sarandon, drink milk design (he's just done john robb's new book cover) and my godson george. he has excellent taste and indeed is responsible for providing me with some of the choicer rips available on tba in recent weeks. and this is his podcast: ::: carcass - festerday ::: kenny process team - ronald frazer munro ::: the spores - freezing point ::: [...]

Peter Jackson's "Lovely Bones" based on the 2002 Alice Sebold novel of the same name follows Susie Salmon - a 14 year old girl from suburban Philadelphia who is brutally murdered by her neighbour. Following the murder Susie watches over her grief-stricken family and killer from her own personal purgatory. Considering Peter Jackson's track record, it comes as no surprise that the trailer's cinematography is breathtaking. Jackson's mastery of aesthetically pleasing and emotionally resonant visuals is particularly prominent when the macabre "scene of the crime" is juxtaposed to Susie's fantastical limbo. Judging from the trailer we're thinking [...]
Sunday, July 19, 2009 I think I'll be attending an early screening of Paper Heart this Tuesday, which should be neat. Probably. Actually, I don't know. That movie looks as if it will either be really entertaining or just straight crap. Guess we'll see. Here's what you came for. Read on. - The Rundown - Russell Crowe has said that he's in talks to star in Master And Commander 2. Road-trip comedy Ceder Rapids [...]
![Liechtenstein [Feature Band]](http://cache.elbo.ws/posts/1840543_lg.jpg)
Every so often I got on a label kick. The latest label to succumb to my addiction is Slumberland Records . Included in my foray are a few wonderful indie-pop artists and the first to get coverage from the attack is Liechtenstein . First, a step back. I've covered Slumberland a few times in the past year or so. They gave us the latest albums by Sarandon and The Lodger. And most recently, they made waves with The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart. [...]

"Well, you can keep the punk rock..." So was the 'Twee' thing kick-started by Tweenet in the mid '90s? Did I read that they were using the term with irony because [...]
