Are you ready to rock? If you are then I have some shows for you! On Thursday, I am all about Those Darlins' at TTs. This band from Tennessee have a rock and twang attitude and are so entertaining live. Friday has the Brooklyns at the Cantab and The Acrobrats at O'Brien's. And if you need a little soul injection, don't forget the Red Rose Soul Club at the Rosebud and it's free! On Saturday there's a great lineup at Church with The Dirty Truckers, Muck & the Mires and Watts and at Great Scotts, there's Reverse and Sun Lee [...]

Here we are at the end of January and there are great shows to entice you out of your cozy homes to brave the cold. On Thursday, Great Scotts has Retribution Gospel Choir (with members of Low) and the Gobshites are back again at the Burren for some good Irish drinking songs (I went last week and it was a good time). Friday has a couple of pretty awesome shows with Eddie Japan and Huck at Sally O'Brien's (love free shows!) and then there's a garage night at Precinct with JJ & Thee Cuban Heels, The Swinedells and The Downbeat [...]

Since there seem to be so few recounts of Falls (with the exception of facebook promoted blog, The Vine) I am putting in my two bits for what definitely feels like my last Falls. Not due to Falls sucking but due to me sucking. More accurately, I feel really old. As in, I-went-to-bed-at-10.30-on-the- first-night old! Let me go back a few steps for those overseas or who just don't know what Falls is. It's a music festival comparable to Woodstock. A bunch of music lovers (and hippies) camp out, get drunk/happy and love life and music, watching performers from all [...]

Lots of music so let's get to it! On Thursday, The Gobshites are doing their third night of their January residency at the Burren. If that's not your thing UK soul singer Findlay Brown is at TTs with Marc Pinansky and Rick Berlin. Friday has a lot to offer. There's a benefit for the victims of the Haiti earthquake at the Middle East Downstairs featuring: The Gobshites, Force the Fallen, Forgetful Jones, The Doom Buggies, Sherman Burns and Van Burens (rockin' for a good cause is a good thing). There's a cool show at Precinct with Corin Ashley, Mike Gent [...]

In typical Eat Skull fashion, the official announcement that the lo-fi scuzz rockers have signed to Brooklyn-based label Woodist comes after the band's new 7-inch is already out. Well then. Eat Skull join a roster that includes Pitchfork favorites Real Estate, Kurt Vile, and Woods, and the label promises a new full-length from the band sometime in 2010. Until then, we have the three song "Jerusalem Mall" EP—which has a street date of Jan. 26, but is available from the band and label right now—to tide us over. The 7-inch was supposed to drop before Christmas, but [...]

The mid-January thaw in Cleveland is always a nice reprieve from the snowy assault that usually spans five months of our year in the snow belt of Ohio. Typically, the gods smile intermittently and allow us the chance to catch up with the plowing and salting of the roads. The slight increase above freezing temps late this week has been fabulous, and as the dead grass of my yard slowly emerges underneath the melting ice, I've been able to enjoy a slight jolt in spirits; the cavernous and introspective moments of winter are quite pronounced in those of us that [...]

Welcome to the weekend! Lots of cool happenings to share with you. Starting on Thursday, Joe Pernice is at the Lizard Lounge (there are still tix but this show is sure to sell out). Also on Thursday the Wheelers and Dealers will be at the Plough (cool, country songs about drinking) and The Gobshites are at the Burren (cool, Irish songs about drinking). On Friday Mission of Burma starts a 2 night stay at the Paradise and on Friday the Konks are the opening band. Also on Friday The Full Time Dreamers starts things off at the Cantab along with [...]

And now, the Top Ten. A few of these were probably pretty obvious to anyone that reads herohill or likes Canadian music, but hopefully some of the lesser known acts (The Wheat Pool or Julie Fader for example) are new treats for you to digest with your cranberry sauce and dindon. Posting might be a bit sporadic over the next few days, but after some of these gems we gave you, hopefully you'll remember your pals at herohill in the new year. 10 [...]
Can't believe it's already been a decade. I'm trying to think about the person I used 2 be back in 1999. I wonder how familiar I am with that bro, or how much I respect him. Theoretically, I have grown up and become a more 'cultured' person with a developed+refined taste in all aspects of life, including my favourite music. Piecing together 'The Best Albums/Artists/Songs/Bands of the Decade' seems tricky, like some sort of existential reflection of urself. I feel like most websites that focus on music create 'best of year/decade' [...]
Last year, the lot of us put together some of our more unconventional year end lists from 2008. We had a lot of fun doing so, and have decided to make it a yearly thing. John Wenzel ( Denver Post Reverb) Local 1. The Jim Jims - Bottom of the City EP 2. Everything Absent or Distorted - The Great Collapse 3. Wentworth Kersey - (O) EP 4. Houses - Summer EP [...]

Sick of Sarah is currently working on new material for their next album and preparing for another round of cross-country tours—including a trip to SXSW—in 2010. In the mean time, check out Sick of Sarah's brand new video for "Paint Like That", an acoustic ballad off their self-titled debut. We've embedded it below for your [...]

Love 'em or hate 'em. Listen to 'em frequently or never dare to include 'em on a playlist. Through strategy or sheer coincidence, Young Money are the 2009 Rolling Stones. With their debut compilation, We Are Young Money , set to hit stores in weeks (and the internet even sooner), the posse's go-to-acts, Lil' Wayne and Drake , stand at the forefront of the movement. Using a similar format as the Jay-Z/Kanye West installment from months earlier, the extensive lyrical history between these two is examined. NOTE : Only records [...]
![The Zebras: Worry A Lot [Album Review]](http://cache.elbo.ws/posts/2174286_lg.jpg)
Worry A Lot marks second release by The Zebras , following their self-titled debut from 2004. The album is crafted with the jangle pop that made the twee movements of C86 and Sarah Records so lovable. From the punchy guitar to the driving percussion, each song contains the power to knock you off your feet. The Zebras hail from Australia and it is extremely difficult to find a copy of anything by the group on this continent, making it clear a US-based label needs to release the album stateside. "Patient [...]

Welcome to December! On Thursday I have one word to say and that word is Sloan. They'll be at TTs with Scarce and it's a show I've been looking forward to for a long time, yay! Friday has many many choices, some might say too many choices. My top two are The Satanics at the Armory (cause nuthin' says the holiday season like devil music? plus they play so rarely these days it should be a blast) and the Weisstronauts Holiday Party at Sally O'Briens. Since both shows are in Somerville, I'm thinking do it all. On Saturday My Own [...]
We the founders of Boston Band Crush decided not to attend the Boston Music Awards last night because, though we were thrilled for the Boston acts who were nominated (and won!), we felt many many other very worthy Boston acts were left out, while once again many acts that are at best baaaaarely connected to the Boston scene were given nods. Likewise, we felt that the system for selecting the winners was flawed. We could go on... But instead, because we love you all very very much and think you're all very worthy, we've got some Boston BAND [...]
If God is truly great, he'd let a Sarah Palin sextape end up on Harvey Levin's doorstep. I'm sick of all these clearly staged sexual encounters. I wanna go rogue while I watch Mrs. Palin purge her inbox. ( via ) Related posts: In Regards to the $63,500 Meal w/ Sarah Palin According to The Associated Press, Cathy Maples of Huntsville, Ala.,...
