MUSIC NEWS - Very few album packages are as unique as Artist in Residence's (A+R) catalog and as distinct of the company's expansive collector's sets by such artists. High-end, limited editions aimed at the music/art connoisseur is certainly a fitting description for these one-of-a-kind sets, and come December 25, one enthusiast will collect an array of A+R's work to date. Beginning today, Friday, November 20, register via A+R's website to win a collection of five sets - the Pixies' Minotaur (Limited Edition), Beck's The Information [...]

The third installment of my "Unheard Of" column is up at In Review Online. As usual, it features some artists I've already covered along with some I haven't. I'll post some links below, but for the full article and free songs , check out the full thing HERE. Will Stratton - "...over the course of two records - particularly No Wonder - he's demonstrated a steadily increasing level of maturity and brought greater depth to his songwriting" [...]

This might be the least metal thing Boris has ever done. It sounds more like a Sigur Ros record! Still, this got me thinking perhaps I should have picked Wata over Atsuo in Reign In Blonde's Hottest Chicks In Metal bracket. If you're still interested - and I'll understand if you're not - Japanese [...]

I've thought long and hard about the list favorite music for the past decade and the year. When I start thinking about it, I start to panic. There's too much good music to lump in a simple list. There's albums that I've listened to when I was on top of the world that will stay with me forever, and others when I've thought that life was cruel and hoped for death. NPR has done a fantastic job of compiling a comprehensive and fair list of the decade's treasures. You can read more, here . [...]

Tickets are now on AmEx presale for the two just-announced February Yeasayer album release shows. Like before, they're still giving away the song "Ambling Alp", but now you download it while listening to trippy background music and attempting to get naked people in focus with your mouse in a new interactive video they just posted . Like The Flaming Lips , Matt & Kim , Sigur Ros and others before them, the band knows that sex sells appreciates the [...]

Raúl Pastor Medall didn't grow up in Oregon. In fact, until recently, the Spanish singer—who records under the name Rauelsson—lived full-time in his native homeland. But the sounds of the Pacific Northwest, and Hush Records in particular, are all over Rauelsson's latest, the gorgeous and very winter-y "Debutantes." Rauelsson recorded the core of his new record—everything but the vocals, really—at Type Foundry studios in the fall/winter last year with the help of friends and producers Adam Selzer and Dave Depper (Norfolk & Western), and you can hear the seasonal touch. La Siembra, la Espera y la Cosecha [...]
...at least according to NPR listeners . Check it out after the jump, then read and listen to the whole All Songs Considered piece HERE . I've really enjoyed reading all these "decade-end" lists so far, and in my opinion this list seems to come closest to accurately reflecting the decade in music. If you're interested, you can also find a running list of such lists at largehearted boy . Check 'em out and see what made the decade in music for everyone. Here's NPRs list of "The Decade's 50 Most Important Recordings": [...]

Reykjavik Rocks DL : Sigur Ros - Gobbledigook (Gluteus Maximus remix) Gluteus Maximus myspace .
UK duo Gentle Friendly's "Lovers Rock" is a generally pleasant piece of melodic pop, with vocals that vaguely recall Jonsi of Sigur Ros. Conversely, the video for "Lovers Rock" is a reasonably creepy affair, complete with disembodied baby doll heads and a vaguely phallic sheet monster of sorts. Nice aesthetic dissonance dudes. Once again, the people behind the Spoon Train Audio -label have made a compilation of independent pop from Oslo. The album is called "Oslo23 and features 16 songs from 16 bands, - most of them are bands we already know, but some are completely new to us. This is the follow up to last years "Oslo!" , and this time they have managed to refine the pop-focus they have on these compilations. Less fuzz, more melody. Before I start commenting on the music, I must give two thumbs up for [...]

Múm , much like Sigur Ros, are groups that create heavenly sounds that I imagine what music is played while frolicking in a sea of clouds. La Blogotheque caught up with Múm this past summer in Paris and recorded a session. You can see the rest of the session here . Mogwai etc., All Tomorrow's Parties, Camber Sands, April 2000 Alphabetical post-rock nostalgia your way comes: Arab Strap typical festival band, rolled out all the hits; sales of The Weekend Never Starts Round Here saw a spike the following week. Bardo Pond failed to live up to a rather high billing as stoner post-rock legends, were but reasonably spooky [...]

photos by Vincent Cornelli FlavorPill : So you don't have any plans to move Stateside? Olof Arnalds : Not now. Maybe in a few years it would be great. I have a son who's one and a half years old, and there's so much life quality in Iceland when it comes to having children because it's so safe. It's such a good environment for kids to have the freedom to play. I have a big [...]
