Hello everybody!!! It is good to be back!! Sorry about the mass hiatus but I was in South America for a couple of months and it has taken me a month to get my head back. Many thanks must go to Adso for the great work at keeping the blog pumping with all your music needs. Now in the same vein as my Top 15 albums of 2007 , my Top 25 of 2008 and Adso's Favourite 15 albums of 2009 I bring my Top 30 Albums of 2009. Now this list has [...]

The JD Rock Awards 2010 ceremony was held at the Hard Rock Cafe, Mumbai on Friday, February 5. We were there. So what was the most shocking moment of this year's JD Rock Awards ? If you've only heard about the gig and didn't attend it, you'll probably say it was Anushka Manchanda's taking her shirt off and proceeding to sing the last song of Shkabang 's set in her bright blue bikini top. It was a bold move, but there were plenty of other WTF moments during [...]
To compliment with what will be a busy 2010, the creators of The Resistance / Coachella's 2010 Friday headliner , aka the band called Muse , has announced plans for the release of a documentary DVD. Due out on March 23rd (via Sexy Intellectual/MVD Visual), Under Review looks at "Muse's full career, from the early days to it's current global success, and uses rare performance and interview footage of the group, contributions from their closest colleagues and from those who have witnessed and written about their journey." Included will be the rare photos, [...]

Some random thoughts and takeaways from this week's NMS LA: It was exciting to see both a sold out crowd and this great event coming into its own. It's a credit to the tenacity of Tom Silverman and Dave Lory and bodes well for the future of the new music business. It's also refreshing that almost no one asks, "How can I get a record deal?" anymore , but rather "How can I move my career forward?" [...]

Are you ready to rock? If you are then I have some shows for you! On Thursday, I am all about Those Darlins' at TTs. This band from Tennessee have a rock and twang attitude and are so entertaining live. Friday has the Brooklyns at the Cantab and The Acrobrats at O'Brien's. And if you need a little soul injection, don't forget the Red Rose Soul Club at the Rosebud and it's free! On Saturday there's a great lineup at Church with The Dirty Truckers, Muck & the Mires and Watts and at Great Scotts, there's Reverse and Sun Lee [...]
Enjoy the brief Q&A below. Last month, Silversun Pickups visited Kimmel. MP3: Silversun Pickups - Sort Of
The Grammys have gotten a lot more entertaining since Twitter exploded. That's about all I have to say about Sunday night's audaciously crass events — kind of a Cirque du Soleil for the Wal-Mart crowd. The evening was much more entertaining in 140-character bursts than on screen, even if it meant finding out that I have friends who think "Use Somebody" is the Greatest Song of All Time. And adore Taylor Swift. Sigh. Call me a crank, and many do, but I am still in denial that I live in a world where the Black Eyed Peas win awards. [...]
Song of the year / Chanson de l'année Beyonce – "Single Ladies" Lady Gaga – "Poker Face" Maxwell – "Pretty Wings" Kings of Leon – "Use Somebody" Taylor Swift [...]
Lady Gaga opened the Grammy's this year with the theatricality we have all come to know and love from America's greatest current pop star. The performance - a medley of "Poker Face", "Speechless" and "Your Song" - featured a riveting duet and duel of the keys with Elton John. From there it was downhill the rest of the evening. Don't even get me started about the Best New Artist category. I still can't understand how Silversun Pickups even qualify in this category, but then Zac Brown beats out MGMT and The Ting Tings for the award! [...]

No real surprises to report. Beyoncé earned a bundle of Grammys. Lady Gaga delivered a rousing - and surprisingly uncontroversial - duet with Elton John . Taylor Swift also cleaned up, though her number with Stevie Nicks sounded a tad off (as did Slash's guitar solo during T-Pain's performance). Best prop goes to Best Comedy Album winner Steven Colbert , who pulled an iPad out of his jacket during his monologue. And kudos to Kings of Leon for admitting they were a tad drunk while accepting the Grammy [...]

"[A Grammy] definitely doesn't hold as much credence in the indie world," said Amy Phillips , news editor of online music tastemaker and news site Pitchfork.com. Though the Grammys occasionally have bestowed their highest reward on albums that pretty much everybody agrees are great - such as OutKast 's Speakerboxxx/The Love Below , in 2004, or The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill , in 1998 - the Recording Academy's choices usually don't match those of the music press. [...]
Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , Grammy Awards The Best New Artist category for this year's Grammy Awards crossed all genres, with the prize going to Atlanta-based country and southern rock group the Zac Brown Band . The group beat out indie rockers the Silversun Pickups , synth-dance group MGMT , the UK pop duo the Ting Tings and R&B singer Keri Hilson . Zac Brown, the band's lead singer, tried to keep cool and calm as his other [...]

PMA will be tuning into the GRAMMYs tonight, giving you minute-to-minute updates and reactions on "music's biggest night". Before the night begins, here are the big nominees: Record of the Year "Halo" – Beyoncé Beyoncé Knowles & Ryan Tedder, producers; Jim Caruana, Mark "Spike" Stent & Ryan Tedder, engineers/mixers "I Gotta Feeling" – Black Eyed Peas David Guetta & Frederick Riesterer, producers; will.i.am, Dylan "3-D" Dresdow & Padraic "Padlock" Kerin, engineers/mixers [...]
Tonight, music's most incredibly awesome awards ceremony, you know, the one that nominates Black Eyed Peas' "I Gotta Feeling" as Record of the Year, Taylor Swift's Fearless as Album of the Year, and Silversun Pickups as Best New Artist (note the extreme sarcasm!), goes down. Honestly, we really shouldn't care, but because mocking is fun and there are a few minutes of tonight's Grammys worth watching - Eminem, Drake, Lil Wayne, and Travis Barker are performing together after all! - we thought we'd host a live blog. Join the CoS staff beginning at a 8pm EST [...]
More music. More sleepless nights. What else is new? Now that Conan O'Brien has said his last goodbyes (at least for now), the late-night throne is seemingly up for grabs. We here at LWMB always like to champion the underdog, so we thought that we'd throw a couple of dogs into the race for the new king of late night. Yeah, I know Letterman is currently the Kobe of the post-11pm time slot, but when he retires, and he'll have to do it some time, who's gonna fill those shoes? In what I've billed as the "Late Night Tournament of [...]

Here we are at the end of January and there are great shows to entice you out of your cozy homes to brave the cold. On Thursday, Great Scotts has Retribution Gospel Choir (with members of Low) and the Gobshites are back again at the Burren for some good Irish drinking songs (I went last week and it was a good time). Friday has a couple of pretty awesome shows with Eddie Japan and Huck at Sally O'Brien's (love free shows!) and then there's a garage night at Precinct with JJ & Thee Cuban Heels, The Swinedells and The Downbeat [...]

I stopped caring what the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences thinks a long time ago (see why here ), but this week a Billboard.com article picked winners in the four biggest Grammy categories -- Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Album of the Year and Best New Artist -- and while reading it today, I played along and took Billboard 's survey, making my own projections. I think Billboard is way off base because its predictions are based too much on the commercial impact of the nominees [...]
Muse has released its share of fan-pleasing straightforward concert films, but the next one is bound to be of a different breed. The three-piece rock band from England has something very specific in mind, too - Matt Bellamy and co. are aiming for a film similar to one by another three-piece rock band, Nirvana, according to NME and BBC 6 Music . While on tour at Australia's Big Day Out fest, bassist Chris Wolstenholme told radio station Triple J: "We'd like to something a little bit more along the lines [...]
Silversun Pickups is a little better here than last time I saw the band on late-night TV, but that's not saying a whole lot, all things considered. And we all know performances on Jimmy Kimmel are rarely ever noteworthy.
