Full A to Z index of every single Irish setlist I have posted from everywhere around the country, and every sort of act. As long as it's from Ireland, I'll post it here! AC/DC, O2 Dublin, 18 April 2009 AC/DC, Punchestown, 28 June 2009 Ryan Adams & the Cardinals, Ambassador Theatre, 8 November 2008 Lily Allen, The Academy, 16 March 2009 Lily Allen, Oxegen, 10 July 2009 Backstreet Boys, O2 Dublin, 13 November 2009 [...]

Of course, the choice was my own. But what if I failed? The very first thing I did in my first year in university was head downtown with my friends to buy concert tickets. I had a two-speed Toyota Corolla that made a delightful humming sound when barrelling down the Don Valley Parkway like a sewing machine trying to achieve escape velocity. But it made me a popular guy among the people in residence, seeing as we were so far from the action at our remote commuter campus. We had all been to the student loan office earlier [...]

To play catch up from last week's missed mix, I'm giving you two once again. They're timely with their themes, the first being all German artists and the second being songs about war. In fact, in many ways these two themes are inextricably linked. As everyone celebrates the 20th anniversary of the Berlin Wall coming down, it inevitably brings Berlin's extraordinary history, along with Germany's more generally, back into the spotlight. And Cold War is war after all. I've written about how much I love Berlin here before, and it still remains one of my top cities [...]

Let's listen to some great covers of Johnny Mercer's music, a little less than a week before what would have been his 100th birthday! Featuring: 1 Baby, It's Cold Outside The Priestess And The Fool Ride On, Santa Orig. Johnny Mercer/Louis Armstrong 2 I Wanna Be Around [...]

Glass Rock: Tall Firs Meets Soft Location Ecstatic Peace have a busy release schedule this Autumn, part of which is this collaboration between Tall Firs and Soft Location. I liked Tall Firs' 2008 album Too Old To Die Young. This doesn't quite work as well; on the plus side, Soft Location's Kathy Leisen has a haunting voice that's part Cat Power and part Siouxsie Sue. Her voice and the light psych-pop arrangements sound fine [...]

Sometimes just blurting out what you think is more fun than actually thinking things through and formulating an opinion. I was down in the basement tonight listening to records and what follows are my stream of conscious reviews of what I listened to. (Slumberland/Dulc-i-Tone) Mantles - Bad Design - Cave-like rock, reverb vocals (looking forward to this trend winding down). Nice guitar solo. This as poppy as Don't Lie, the best song on their album that came out on Siltbreeze. Mantles [...]

Ok, so this post title might come off as outdated if you've been hot on Zambri for the past few months, much as we have. So in digging through my archives, I was appalled that I had yet to actually write anything about the pairing of NYC sisters, Jessica and Cristi Jo. Hence, their introduction... Zambri caused quite a stir late last month with handful of dates during CMJ. Being hailed as everything from a mix of Bjork to Bat For Lashes, doused with Siouxsie and New Order [...]

I hate it when a band I like does something that I consider moderately evil. Thankfully I don't like U2 or it would happen a lot. I am a fan of Wolfmother though, I think their debut is one of the best "rawk" albums in years, totally cribbing the best of AC/DC, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath. I've been looking forward to their sophomore album, Cosmic Egg, for months and bought it the day it came out, even though I had a review copy! I'm fucking loyal! However, there are two versions of the album (excluding the iTunes [...]

Last year's Halloween Indie Disco podcast got so many downloads that I was thinking of making a new one for today. As I was scratching my head trying to figure out what tracks to use, the good people from Kill Hannah (remember them? If not check out my post about them here ) saved me the trouble. They've sent me a wicked playlist proving that proves they have really good taste. Featuring artists like The Cure , She Wants Revenge , White Lies , Depeche Mode , Nine Inch [...]
E.K. Wimmer is one of my top favorite artists to be featured here at AFIN, and also an all-around nice, cool, multi-talented fellow. His last album, What Was Once Veduta is Now Found was reviewed favorably here in January , as well as the single from this album "Puppets and Ninjas". His incredible new album The Invisible Audience was just released and I got a chance to interview E.K. about it - read on below! A Future in Noise: [...]
Since releasing Twilight of the Innocents back in 2007, the Irish trio known as Ash has turned away from the conventional recording of albums to focus instead on releasing steady singles on their own schedule. This led to the creation of The A-Z series, a collection of 27-songs that will be released every two weeks for the next few months. The songs find Ash trying out new avenues and new sounds, but somehow they don't neglect their own past in doing so. I got a chance to chat with Ash front man [...]
Not much to say but that you really need to see this new video from Fan Death for the rad extended mix of "Reunited" from their forthcoming EP A Coin For The Well c/o The Pharmacy Recording Co. You especially need to see this video if you're a fan of Prince, Marilyn Manson, Andre 3000, Depeche Mode, Bjork, Peter Gabriel, Fad Gadget, Siouxsie, Courtney Love, Axl Rose, Left Eye, David Byrne, Adam Ant, Pee-Wee Herman, Billy Corgan and really, really cute girls. It's for you. You can watch it [...]

Just barely in time for Halloween is a brief (9 tracks) but excellent mashup collection courtesy of the good folk at Mashup Industries . Not a weak track in the bunch: DJ NoNo gives The Count from "Sesame Street" a dancehall riddim, Orange County's (sorry about the Angels, 'dude) Voicedude makes mixes a tango (!) with Blue Oyster Cult, Edgar Allen Poe, and Disneyland's Haunted Mansion; Clivester (the album compiler) actually makes me like Korn and Alanis Morissette by skillfully mixing them with [...]
