Contemporary folk music lost one of its brightest stars with the passing of Jack Rose last December. Along with Ben Chasny (Six Organs of Admittance), Sir Richard Bishop, and DC fav James Blackshaw, Rose was counted among the best acoustic guitar players of the post-John Fahey era and was just 38 when his life was tragically cut short by a heart attack. Like Fahey, Rose was fascinated by the music of pre-WWII America, and was highly regarded not only as a musician but as a connoisseur and collector of early recordings. Self-taught on the 6-, 12-string and lap steel guitar, [...]

SIX ORGANS OF ADMITTANCE @ Nimas (24/11/2009)
1 - Mono - Immortal_Wind 2 - Faust - C'est Com Com Complique 3 - Animal collective – 4 - Six organs of admittance – Luminous Night 5 - [...]
For the 12th year Brainwashed Readers have voiced their opinion on the best and worst music of the year. While some of the results shouldn't come as a surprise, there are, as always, plenty of anomalies. Brainwashed Readers have once again, and probably moreso than any other previous year, distanced themselves from the mainstream. Thanks to all who took part. As always, the Brainwashed Staff have added their comments. Album of the Year:Sunn O))), Monoliths Dimensions Their best album by a country mile. I get the feeling their collaborators have a lot to do with [...]

Hello audience, I'm Evan. It's time again for me to put effort into composing a blog entry. That's right, today is the day you'll get to read my year-end list devoted to the 100 best albums released in 2009. Like last year, I can't possibly write 100 blurbs for all the albums on this list, so I've prepared about 25 mini-reviews to go along with song samples from about 25 of the albums. As far as I know, all these albums were released in 2009, but I am an imperfect human, so there might be an error or two. Instead [...]
This will be a pleasure to write, it made the weekend worthwhile for me. I'd already seen Six Organs of Admittance play a show in the UK, but having been involved in the setting up and so forth I had not felt truly a part of the audience there.

As a special year-end feature at Rollo & Grady, we have asked over 60 artists to list the music that they've most enjoyed listening to in 2009. Contributors include some of the most talented musicians in the business; they have made some excellent selections and we are thrilled with their participation. *DEAN WAREHAM - LUNA, GALAXIE 500, DEAN & BRITTA Papercuts - You Can Have What You Want Davy Graham - Definitive Anthology The Feelies - Crazy Rhythms [...]

So here we are at Day 2 of the "Best of 20093 Blogger Crew and today is a monster post from E. over at Das Klienicum . It's a monster because he is posting on his top 50 albums of the year and he even has ratings broken out by number of stars (ranked out of 5 as best)....ummm, top 50 people!! There isn't gushing, there isn't microscopic dissection of each album in order to create some sort of reasoning, there is simply that feeling when you just know that this album is good and [...]
On this release Andy Cartwright once again delivers a cohesive body of wide-eyed psych-folk using various additional instruments to lend colour to the rich and woozy coils of incense smoke that spiral from his earnest and concentrated guitar playing. As on last years Twilight Synopsis, which remains a better release in my opinion, he displays a love of Shelter from the Ash era Six Organs of Admittance.

Printer cartridge instructions from Asia are always a hilarious find. This came out of an ink package at work. It's hard to believe a technical writer somewhere in the world was actually paid to write this. Oh, to be a college graduate during the Internet boom of the '90s. I could have been retired by now... Instead, I'm working at a record store and compiling mix tapes for people I don't know or even care about (well, maybe ten of you I care about). How depressing. Rather than wallow in my self-pity any longer, I'll just skip ahead [...]
