I was reading my buddy Nathaniel's recent blog entry on a rad fan-made video for the Atlas Sound / Stereolab collab (rhymes lol) "Quick Canal," featuring lots of retro kitsch stock footage. Broadcast, you need to find the dude who made this video. Anyway, seeing the video reminded me of something Lana discovered not too long ago called The Prelinger Archives . As Regis Philbin used to say in the Mr. Phipps Tater Crisps commercials: " I LOVE 'EM! " The Prelinger Archives is a mindblowingly expansive collection of public domain films from pre and [...]
CHARLIE ALEX MARCH TO RELEASE DEBUT LP HOME/HIDDEN ON LO RECORDINGS FIRST SONG " CORTOT NO 6 " AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD UK artist/composer Charlie Alex March is pleased to announce the release of his debut album, Home/Hidden, with Lo Recordings. Home/Hidden, set for release in the US on February 16, is a wonderfully melodic and satisfying affair, gloriously English in a non-sniffy manner, like tea and crumpets or a stroll on an autumn day. Remarkably focused and mature, it's eclectic mixture of real strings, treated piano and all manner of electronic keyboards create a surprisingly [...]

Ombarrops! is the new album from quirky Polish band The Car Is On Fire. The Warsaw-based group recruited John McEntire (Tortoise, Sea & Cake) to produce the record. The result is a set of songs that sound like the bastard lovechild of Stereolab and The Fall. Check out the title track and more here. It's quite entertaining stuff. I guess you can call it Atlas Sound day on musicleech. Been posting slowly lately because of school work, but I do have one other thing I want to share today. Will post it right after this. Anyway, this is the video for Atlas Sound's epic 8-minute crescendo "Quick Canal" featuring Stereolab's Lætitia Sadier on vocals. It mostly follows around an American family through daily activities like cooking toast (exciting, right), and it's relaxing if not nostalgic. The leaked version of Logos (which I confess to having heard) had the instrumental of this [...]
I really love Atlas Sound's latest LP Logos - it has terrific replay value that catapults the album into a list containing "best" and "2009" in the title. The video is for the epic eight-minute song "Quick Canal" featuring Stereolab's own Lætitia Sadier. Although the video surfaced on YouTube about a month ago, 4AD did not designate it an official music video but did give it their seal of approval. The song is a slow building bundle of beauty complete with a video sampling segments [...]
Here's the new video for Atlas Sound 's "Quick Canal", featuring Stereolab 's Laetitia Sadier on vocals. It's one of the stronger, poppier tracks on the excellent Logos and features and very Stereolab-esque bass line. Atlas Sound: "Quick Canal" - created by Fitz Vladich:
"Quick Canal," the second best track on Atlas Sound's great new album, Logos , just got a found imagery video, which is fitting, since much of Atlas Sound's work is built on found samples. In the clip, we watch a family do what families did back in the 1960s; barbecue, gather their cheap modern belongings, and demonstrate products (that's how the '60s were, right?). Stereolab's Lætitia Sadier handles the vocals, but you'd never realize that, since she and Cox don't appear here at all. Logos is out [...]
Directed by Fitz Vladich, this clip has become the 4 AD-approved (if not entirely "official") video for Atlas Sound's "Quick Canal," featuring the incredible Laetitia Sadier of Stereolab. [via yvynl] ******** click through for more...

Atlas Sound is the solo project of Deerhunter vocalist and guitarist Bradford Cox. To date he has released two full-length records, Let The Blind Lead Those Who Can See but Cannot Feel in 2008 and just last month Logos . Both records have been released on Kranky (and in some countries 4AD ), just like the Deerhunter catalogue. He has also released an impressive range of EPs and singles on the Deerhunter blog. For me, Let the Blind represented everything I [...]

Unusual Canadian quartet mixes progrock, classical and more One spin of this Montreal band's second full-length made me belatedly realize that my infatuation with Stereolab and Portishead traces a straight line back to an earlier infatuation with Soft Machine, Hatfield and the North, and many other '70s prog-rock giants. It's not that these bands share the same exact melodic, rhythmic or instrumental sensibilities, but they each temper rock elements with something progressive, such as jazz, classical, and world music. Flotilla augments their keyboards, electronics, bass, and drums, with ethereal, delicate touches of fingertip plucked [...]

A band sent me a submission email last week (as did every band in the world, apparently, as my inbox is currently overloaded). As I listened to the first pair of (quite good) songs from their album, all I could think of was that it reminded me of Pram . Thing is, though, I couldn't remember Pram's name - spent about 5 minutes trying to think of it. After my brain came up empty, I turned to Google. All I could think to type in the search box was 'bands that sound like Stereolab'. The answer I [...]
Pants Yell! "Someone Loves You" from Slumberland Records on Vimeo . Slumberland Records has a swagger to its walk this year, with attention bearing out: while breakout acts such as Crystal Stilts and The Pains of Being Pure at Heart and Pants Yell! have hit their [...]
Crystal Stilts started as a band the same year that Slumberland Records got back up and running after a couple of years off. It makes sense that their paths would cross since the sounds of both seem to run parallel to each other. In 2008 they made it happen with Slumberland Records releasing the excellent debut LP Alight of Night . On Saturday they too will play the Slumberland Records 20th Anniversary Party at The Bell House! ( tickets ) Here's what they think about being [...]

Realizing that "indie" is the new jingle and notions of selling out died when the first New Beetle danced with flowers to Stereolab, Korean automaker Kia has assembled perhaps the most unfortunately named tour of the year, featuring DJs and "bloggable" "buzzworthy" "indie" "bands." The Soul Collective Tour is ...
