Before even listening to this quartet from Minneapolis, I had only known One For The Team solely because of its frontman Ian Anderson, who's blog ( MFR - Minneapolis F*cking Rocks ) I happen to visit quite frequently for over a year now. Besides running his successful blog, Anderson also wears many different hats, among them being running his own label at Afternoon Records and author of the book "Here Come The Regulars" which discusses the ins and outs of running a record label on a shoestring budget. My friend over at Article is trying to raise funds on Kickstarter for two great projects: - Cerebral Ballzy's first 7" [...]

This was one of those shows where I felt instantly transported back to my days at Olde Club. Good bands playing short sets, and a PBR in between each. A great way to spend a Thursday night. I FINALLY got to see Team Robespierre, which was good, though a bit weary as I definitely needed to get up to go to work six hours later. My other main impression from the night was that Total Slacker are definitely on their way to buzzdom. Their live show is pretty fun, so I'd definitely keep my eye out for them in the [...]

Truman Peyote are back in NY tonight! Better yet, they're playing with Team Robespierre, Total Slacker, Easter Vomit, and well...yeah, you can read the rest. Stoooooked. Thanks IMPOSE , as usual. PBR is having an art show tonight and of course that means free beer. The open bar is from 9-10 and afterwards all PBR is a mere $1. The winner of the art show gets about $2K and a years worth of PBR (you drunks will make them pay dearly for that I'm sure).Link:PBR Art ShowThere's also an awesome show at Don Pedro's tonight with Team Robespierre, Truman Peyote, Total Slacker, and more. There's

I haven't blogged about Team Robespierre since July, and it's high time that changes. If you've never seen their amazing high-energy live show, then now is the time. This is Impose's first Test Patterns of 2010, and it's shaping up to be a great one. I'm also intrigued by the Silent League show at Bruar Falls, but I was so taken by Total Slacker's show at Death By Audio last week that I'm recommending this show. Definitely the most intriguing new stage presence I've seen in awhile. Plus, this Truman Peyote band sounds at least faintly interesting from their MySpace. [...]
On Friday night (yeah yeah I know it's been a few days, I've been sick aiiight?) I headed out to my favorite Philadelphia house venue The Terrordome to catch Brooklyn skate drunks Cerebral Ballzy.Tet Offensive:I headed in really early to catch some of my friends who live at the place, and after talking for a bit, Philly's Tet Offensive set up and played one brutal set. Unfortunately, the band no

Recommended Show: THURSDAY, DECEMBER 31, 2009 (NEW YEAR'S EVE) PROJECT JENNY, PROJECT JAN @ UNION HALL 702 Union Street Brooklyn, NY 11215 $25, 8PM It was quite honestly pretty tough for me to pick a single standout show going on tonight. There are tons of good ones. However, with this being the party night of the year, many of those real good shows are also far too expensive. I ended up picking Project Jenny, Project Jan , because the duo not only put on a fantastic show, but the price isn't too bloated (a few [...]

Team Robespierre at The Delancey (01/17/09) Photo : Tim Griffin Hey, if you don't have New Year's eve plans already, it might be a bit late to score tickets to some of these events, but here's a list of a few interesting things that are going on as we roll into 2010. New Year's Eve 2009 (New York, NY) 12/31 Team Robespierre, Kabona Zombies, Violent Soho, Pregnant - Bruar Falls ( Info ) 12/31 Eli "Paperboy" Reed, Obits, Subway [...]

New Year's Eve in New York City is quite possibly the craziest night of the year around these parts. People go absolutely nuts whether they are penned in like cattle in Times Square or celebrating a casual, drunken New Year with friends somewhere closer to home, people do not hold back for this holiday. Fittingly it is one of the busiest days of the year for the music venues of the city, booking acts and charging exorbitant amounts to allow people to pay even more for booze. It may not be my favorite night of the year to go out, [...]

Yeah, we didn't even realize that this Friday was the ultra dark and totally rad 13the of the month until a bit earlier today. Knowing that all sorts of shenanigans can occur on such a date, we got pretty excited for what's to come. Then we caught wind of this party...and now this day/night is going to all out rage! This Friday, November 13 Roberta's and Deth Killers Present FundRAISING HELL , a benefit party for Brooklyn Grange Farms. All proceeds go towards the new 1 acre rooftop garden [...]

However, it appears that the wild and craziest day is still in front of us. I grabbed what I think is a good list of most day and night shows below--I will scour for my daily "day party" post just to make sure. Not only are there a shit load of [...]

So, I don't know if I've already mentioned this enough already, but I'm going to NEW YORK on Sunday for a week of tomfoolery and Big Apple based fun. We've also chosen this week in particular to head across the sea as it's CMJ Music Marathon and there are some pretty fucking cool bands playing. A fair few that we've featured on this here blog in fact. Hooray for us and coolness! But, my problem is I just can't process this list of bands who are playing. There are too many for my [...]
(wonder what drugs this chick is on) Screaming Females are back from tour and "waiting for some basement shows" so they have something to do. Either way they do have a few shows lined up in the area, one being a benefit show at Asbury Lanes (poster above). All of the proceeds from the benefit show, which takes place November 21st will go to 180 NJ , a non-profit organization set-up to help combat domestic violence & sexual assault. The [...]
CMJ released the band schedule for its 2009 Music Marathon & Film Festival yesterday, which is about as good a sign of fall hitting New York as the return of apple cider at Greenmarket. The festival runs from Oct. 20 - Oct. 24 and includes various venues throughout the city, and the list of featured artists would probably take all four days to read through. But skimming the selection reveals a fairly equal distribution of well-known acts like Atlas Sound and Deer Tick , anonymous locals (including krautrock-y Jeff Buckley-channelers Pocketknife), twenty-two bands who [...]
