For months now, Brendan Boogie has run a phenomenally successful show series at the Lizard Lounge called The Cover-Up with Brendan Boogie . Each show takes one artist or theme and all the performing bands play cover sets accordingly. CMJ released the band schedule for its 2009 Music Marathon & Film Festival yesterday, which is about as good a sign of fall hitting New York as the return of apple cider at Greenmarket. The festival runs from Oct. 20 - Oct. 24 and includes various venues throughout the city, and the list of featured artists would probably take all four days to read through. I was saddened by the news that my old friend and business colleague Billy Lee Riley had just passed away from cancer at age 75 . I am sorry it took Billy's passing to inspire me to write this long overdue account of our friendship, but his passing on August 2 was overlooked by most in this summer which has claimed so many people.
