With the 2010 edition of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival scheduled to get underway a little less than five months from now, we are finally starting to get an idea of what the lineup will look like. According to a source with knowledge of the festival's plans, Muse will serve as a headliner for the Indio, CA event, set to take place from April 16-18. This will mark the British outfit's first appearance at Coachella since 2004 and will come amidst what will likely be a summer chock-full of tour dates in support of [...]

Tegan & Sara "Arrow" A lot of people can't handle criticism of any kind, and conflate it with conflict and cruelty. That doesn't have to be the case. The singer in this song is requesting constructive criticism and "tough love," and though it seems to be part of a desire to change for the better, what comes through in the language and in her voice is a hunger for intimacy and acceptance. She wants to know what the other person is thinking, she wants to get inside their head and figure out how to be what [...]

You Say Party! We Say Die! XXXX Out 02/09/10 Listen to 'There is XXXX' and 'Dark Days' here As 2006 saw a new wave of indie dance-rock hit the radars, with bands like the Klaxons, CSS, Crystal Castles and The Teenagers quickly hijacking the attentions of music lovers and critics all over the world, an up and coming five-piece from British Columbia named You Say Party! We Say Die! (or YSP!WSD! for short) were quickly developing a name for themselves minutes over the Northern borders of Canada (where [...]

The two have completely severed all traces of their folkie past and are gunning for a more mainstream audience.

Sainthood , Tegan and Sara's sixth album (and second with Sire records), makes it clear that after a decade of prolific recording, touring, and rising popularity in a crumbling music industry, the twin-sister rock duo has proven its relevance in the face of all pressures and misconceptions to the contrary. Despite being identical twins, hower, Tegan and Sara Quin are not identical (no matter how much their trippy self-interview on Spinner fooled you). We spoke with Tegan Quin before a New York tour date and talked about where they fit on the scale between indie and mainstream, the [...]

It's half six in the evening on a fateful, drab Friday night as damp as Louis Walsh's sinking optimism at a lonely hearts club and queues spew at every possible angle from the jarred mouth of the Empire. Jackie McKeown of inconsequential Scot lo-fi trowels 1990s once stated that it's their cult status that keeps them alive and whilst they may have dropped off the radar into further obscurity, tonight sparks the starting gun of a whistle-stop UK tour for 'queer' siblings and darling queens of the LGBT musical corner, Tegan and Sara . As streams of fresh-faced bi-curious [...]
Tiesto's new album Kaleidoscope is out now, and while you might associate Tiesto with massive trance anthems, the new album has a little something different going on that will broaden his audience further. Take for example the collaboration with Sigur Rós' Jónsi Birgisso which is a beautiful downtempo piece.Other collaborations on the new album include Bloc Party's Kele Okereke, Metric's Emily Haines, Tegan and Sara, and Kianna Alarid of Tilly and the Wall. You can win your very own copy of the CD by simply sending an email to: music [@] beatlife.net and telling [...]

Tegan and Sara: Sainthood Tegan and Sara have a great album in them, but Sainthood isn't it. It's close on several fronts, especially when it plays to the Calgary twins' strengths, their teenage-girl harmonies and affinity for strong pop hooks, like on lead single "Hell" and "On Directing" (with its cutie-pie "go steady with me" chorus). But it's also a frustrating record, as the Quin sisters seem caught between going deeper and darker with their sound, as on "Paperback Head" or "Night Watch," or [...]
A review of Tegan and Sara's sixth album, Sainthood.

So many great choices for Thursday. You could start at Toad for the early part of the night and see uke master Melvern Taylor. Afterwards there are many venues that have great line-ups. Gordon Gano, yup the guy from the Violent Femmes, and his his new band is at the Middle East with Sidewalk Driver and Mascara. Also on Thursday there's the Lovewhip cd release at Church or go to TTs for John Powhida International Airport, Logan 5 and the Runners, Weisstronauts and Mercy James (great local line-up!). On Friday, I'll Be at Precinct to see My Own Worst Enemy, [...]
Identical Canadian pop/rock twins don't have the best record in pop music (or any record, for that matter), but Tegan And Sara always meant to change all that. On their sixth album (the recently released Sainthood) and still under 30, the duo might seem almost infuriatingly productive (especially in light of the massive success of [...]
OK, they are really just from Sara but if I just put Sara up there then you'd be at a loss for who's recommending these great albums! I'm not sure if this is ok...but...what i am most struck by when I'm speaking to our fans is how many of them don't know some of the bands and albums that were super influential on me when I was a teenager! So instead of picking obscure bands, I thought I might just recommend five albums that people might not know about that are still as important [...]
