Do you like Jim White, Tom Waits, Howe Gelb and Chuck Prophet? Yeah...me too. What is it about their collective sound that is so cool? Probably has a bit to do with the level of musical sloppiness they all share, the amount of reverb added to both the vocals and guitars, and mostly their unique view on life. Add German singer songwriter Digger Barnes to that list above. When you heard "German" do you immediately think Hasselhoff, Lederhosen, and beer gardens? Sure Germany hasn't had the greatest rock track record of late, but [...]

Well, well, well, here it is. The first themed podcast and we decided to do the dual (collab, if you will) themes of Murder Ballads and Beer. The murder ballads came from y'all's emails and my admittedly shit memory, while the beer came from Rouge Brewery courtesy our Portland friend Lollyrae . I hope I did okay, but I have to admit I am lacking a little confidence on this one. I think the main problem is that I wasn't too sure how I was gonna do it before I started it, then I realized midway through [...]

Tonight ESPN launches a series of documentaries, and I'm eager to tune in. 30 for 30 celebrates the network's 30th anniversary by presenting 30 docs by 30 respected filmmakers. Produced by Bill Simmons, the lineup is fairly tight. Well-done sports documentaries are hard to come by because often times the subject matter is just not interesting enough. Here, Simmons has given his filmmakers the opportunity to explore less-familiar stories, or familiar stories with a new wrinkle. "We were especially [...]
